After reaching rank legend #85 last season by playing miracle rogue I decided to create a unique deck instead of using decks everyone is using. So I wondered what the least common decks in hearthstone was and that led me to control hunter. At first it was just for having some fun but after changing a few things around it actually turned out to be a totally viable and competetive deck. After about 70-80 games this deck brought me to rank 5 already and still heading upwards.

About the deck and matchups

This deck is extremely good at keeping your opponents board empty whether it are a lot of small minions or a few big minions, beside clearing the board this deck can also put on tremendoes pressure against miracle rogue for example..Wild Pyromancer is without any doubt the most important card in this deck, combined with all the spells and Hunter's Mark it can kill any creature and any amount of creatures.

Beside Wild Pyromancer you also have Arcane Shot, Deadly Shot and Explosive Shot and your traps for board control. As for midgame you have Sen'jin Shieldmasta, Azure Drake, Cairne Bloodhoof and Savannah Highmane with Gladiator's Longbow and Ragnaros the Firelord as late game threats/finishers.

If you feel like you lack late game threats or survivability you could consider swapping cairne or TbK for Alexstrasza.

As for matchups in the current meta this deck has very few weak matchups I will discuss the most common below.

Miracle rogue vs control hunter 45/55%

Against miracle rogue, control hunter has a slight advantage. Control hunter can put pressure on the miracle rogue while having lots of answers to their early plays, also the concealed auctioneer can easily be picked off by deadly shot. But due to the inability to heal its easy to get into the combo range so therefore you should be carefull with using your bow to clear enemy minions.

In this matchup you mulligan for deadly shot and faerie dragons/Sen'jin Shieldmasta for early pressure.

Zoolock vs control hunter 30/70%

This is by far the easiest matchup for control hunter. While divine zoo might be a tad harder its still very good manageable. Pyromancer along with cheap spells such as arcane shot and hunters mark + explosive traps will destroy any opening zoo has. Dont worry about taking 4 or 5 extra damage by waiting a turn with pyromancer combo's or explosive trap because that often means you kill 2+ extra minions and this makes it easier to take control of the board. If you happen to go second use the coin for pyromancer combo's.

In this matchup you mulligan for pyromancer, cheap spells and explosive trap. Sen'jin, faerie dragons and eaglehorn also arent bad starting cards.

Midrange shaman vs Control hunter 40/60%

While this matchup is often pretty easy, the shaman has the capability of bursting so always be aware of that and use your traps accordingly.

This matchup can often be decided by some early plays around turn 3/4. Feral spirits is a very common turn 3 play (or turn 2 with coin) by shamans and if you have the right cards to deal with those then you are often in a pretty good shape. Having eaglehorn bow destroys about any early plays a shaman has along with faerie dragons (which shaman have a hard time dealing with) and sen'jin as turn 4 play you are most likely gonna be in perfect shape to win this match. But if the shaman gains control around turn 3/4 it can also be very hard to come back from.

In this matchup mulligan for eaglehorn bow, faerie dragon and sen'jin.

Note: other matchups (handlock, ramp/token druid, control warrior and aggro paladin) will soon be posted.
