Here is a video of me employing this deck. I know it seems like its all luck, but I could have manipulated Alexstrasza and finished it one turn earlier. However, I'm just sadistic :)
Mage Deck: Stop the Rush Meta from Powhitehorn on Vimeo.
You need to be a smart player to use this deck. If this is your first mage deck, your going to have difficulty. This is set for the more seasoned mage to help combat several of the rush decks we are encountering.... I mean out of the last ten games you played...how many Warlocks with Murlock Decks, Hunters rushing you at turn 6 for a kill at turn 7, Paladins with Rush decks have your encountered? My guess is about 80%. This deck was built to toss in randomly with my more stable decks. Not only that, but its fun as hell to play.
If you want to hit turn 10 and roll the dice for a win, this is your deck. It is not perfect and I recently added The Beast. This deck is in response to Zoo, Merlock Decks, and other rush decks. It generally stops the rush and slows the game down, forcing your opponent to think your retarded until turn 5. Once they have established that this will be an easy win, unleash this deck...
I play this deck for maximum draw till turn 5-6 (i.e. Ill drop a The Card on turn 2 for an Arcane Intellect. I never Ice Barrier until my toon is at 15 health, "typically". This allows me to drop my Molten Giant with Sunfury Protector as early as turn 7. This deck has heavy draw, that is, you will burn cards if you are not careful. I try to never go over 8 as a general rule. Also I generally play Alexstrasza like it will never draw and never throw it away if you get on Mulligan. If I do get it, I typically use it on myself after Ice Block. However, I have been sitting on 3 Health with an Ice Block Employed on a turn, with the other players saying "Good Game" (Since they had 30 Health) and then Drop Alexstrasza, and finished him off with my minions. Also one of my favorite combo's on turn 8 is Big Game Hunter in conjunction with Faceless Manipulator.
Help me tweak it and Ill test it out, for us. Lets see if we can crush the meta.
Seriously, some days it's 99% I think. And let's not leave out the warriors and rogues. Hope you have a poly for that 11/4 Frothing Berserker! I've been working on a deck for this element of the meta but it really comes down to good early card draw, and like you said, playing smart. I dig the heavy defense and didn't put anything together nearly as beefy in that sense. I see this as a viable option in the offensive lane as well with the legendaries/faceless/mg. That being said, my question is- do you ride this through ranked, and if so, what levels has it been effective for you? Yes, this is all subject to change at any and every moment, but I'm just curious what your experience is. I have a problem of going down to 15 and then getting pushed up to 18-19 and repeating. Happened to me last season as well, though I did get to 10 in the end and would have relished more time to take it further. Please, share your story ^-^"!~
Nice vid too. Can I ask what was used to record/edit that as well?
I'm a noob.
Its funny because The Black Knight is what I replaced with The Beast. The Black Knight is an amazing card and has far more functionality that The Beast. I only use the The Beast to draw out all CC's and "health" from the board before I flame strike or lay down another large card. He is really amazing in conjunction Sunfury Protector.
Switched The Beast with The Black Knight. Although you don´t win every game, it works well with the current meta and is fun to play. Thank you for the deck.
