Total Deck Rating
160
With cards such as Zombie Chow and Totem Golem, this deck aims to stabilise the early game and bring out value minions such as Tuskarr Totemic and Piloted Shredder. In the late game, it consists of cards like Thunder Bluff Valiant and Nexus-Champion Saraad both of which benefit from pressing that totem button, something I find myself doing a lot as a midrange Shaman player. In addition, there are just the usual value and tempo cards such as Loatheb, Fire Elemental and Sylvanas Windrunner. Your goal is usually to control the board and slowly push their health total down, with Al'Akir the Windlord occasionally being a finisher.
As an added benefit, none of the bigger late game cards get hit by Big Game Hunter, which is extremely relevant in the meta (prior to the release of TGT).
Suggestions in the comments seem to imply that Defender of Argus is really strong in the deck, which I do think is true. Depending on both personal preference and speed of the meta, I believe they can be interchanged. Additionally, Nexus-Champion Saraad's body may be too slow for the current meta and may suffer the same problem as Hogger. I believe that Justicar Trueheart's ability for Shaman may be too slow, but can also be changed for the Sludge Belcher. Bloodlust could actually be great with all the sticky minions, and could be improved in conjunction with the addition of the Defenders.
In regard to the double Tuskarr Totemic being too much, I think that, since is has no 'bad' outcomes [for example, with Lightning Storm, if you roll low] it is fine to take up the 3 slot. Again, this is still Theorycraft so everything remains to be seen.
Ancestral Knowledge. What a great card for Shaman! Shaman really needed card draw and this really suits their needs for late game draw. Because of the overload, I really doubt that this would be used in the early game since it shuts down your tempo for 2 turns but when you reach turn ten and can draw 2 cards and play Al-akir the Windlord, it's pretty good.
I replaced Mana Tide Totem with a Healing Wave because the Ancestral Knowledge, Azure Drake and two chances of getting Mana Tide Totems with 2 Tuskarr Totemics are enough draw for the deck, otherwise you would lose tempo. But jeez, this really bolsters Shaman's chances against aggro (Puny Druid with your Healing Touch). I think one is enough since you don't really want to be in a position where you have to heal for 14 twice in one game. Even if you lose the joust, it's still worth it, I think.
Good god, The Mistcaller seems to be really good. Hopefully it lives up to it's standards and hype. Nothing else to say....OpieOpieOpie
Much sad, seems like The Mistcaller is a bit less Opie than at first glance, its more of a win more card, unlike Dr. Boom. Dr. Boom is back for the sake of consistency, so feel free to edit the deck to suit your playstyle, after all no one can tell you how to have fun!
Feel free to replace an early game card with an Acolyte of Pain or something for more draw, maybe even a second Azure Drake. If BGH is something you're conscious about, you could also take the zoo route and put The Mistcaller and Dr. Boom in so that you have multiple BGH targets.
Did a bit of testing and forum reading, I still have no clue where to go with Mistcaller or no, so for now I'm just going to keep it in. Be sure to share your experiences with Mistcaller because it's really extreme at the moment, either AMAZING or TERRIBLE. Also added 2nd TBH because it kinda is really good from what I've experienced in playtesting. BTW what do you think of no Chow? With the Defender and the Sludge as well as the Healing Wave, is it necessary?
Please leave any suggestions!
Edit: Changed Silver Hand Regent to Eydis Darkbane because of possible rockbiter synergy and general body, could be interchanged with the other 3/4 legendary released.
Edit 2: Freed up the 3 mana slot slightly to make more early game with Haunted Creeper and took out 1 Thunder Bluff Valiant.
Edit 3: Replaced one Fireguard Destroyer with one Defender of Argus. Reasons in description and comments. Replaced Nexuzs-Champion Saraad with Sludge Belcher as it may be too slow.
Edit 4: Replaced one Azure Drake with an Ancestral Knowledge because yay for Shaman late game draw!!
Edit 5: Replaced Mana Tide Totem with a Healing Wave.
Edit 6: The Mistcaller sdfmajshdgfkajsghdv
Edit 7:Replaced The Mistcaller with Dr. Boom
Edit 8: Testing, Tweaking and Testing
Edit 9: Yep, and this deck is actually kinda working at rank 10 ish, but falls to tempo decks.
*This is only version 1.8, I will be adding and changing cards as suggested or playtested.
Great deck man! I've been using it since TGT dropped and I love it. I'm currently sitting pretty around rank 12 and I can't really complain. just wanted to say a few words about my experience with the deck. I noticed that when playing against aggro, I never seem to get my Healing Wave unless it is in my opening hand*. The same seems to go for my Lightning Storm as well. What do you recommend I do to try an resolve these issues? Also, The Mistcaller, perhaps my most valuable trump card in the deck, I can't begin to count how many times the game was nearly dead even and I dropped that glorious damp bastard and swing things back into my favour and end up coming out with a win! My only concern now is that I have a Neptulon just sitting in my collection doing nothing. I wish I could find a spot for him in this deck but it never seems to work out as planned. All in all, great deck, keep up the good work and as always, have fun!
*I also have the worst RNG when it comes to needing cards, lol
Would recommend teching in one or two Chows depending on how desperately you lose against aggro and it does help even out your curve as well as slightly strengthen your chances against midrange. Thanks so much for the feedback and advice!
Nice Job Buddy i really like this deck +1
Great deck. Just opened Alakir and now Im ready to pump up my Shamy%)
Any suggestions vs face hunters? Cause this deck seems to be too slow to counter first 4 turns agrssion.
If you are facing heaps of aggro, then I would tech in a Zombie chow or two to make your early game curve more consistent, especially after the overload of the Totem Golem. Thx for the feedback!
Have you thought about trying Maiden of the Lake it goes well with Mukla's Champion?
And as well as the Earth Shock what about running the Lava Shock as well for overload??
I think that having Mukla's Champion is a bit too slow for this deck as it doesn't survive as well as the thunder bluff valiant does and is a turn seven 4/3. I'm sure that it works for some particular decks but I don't think that this is the one. On the other hand, if you have maiden of the lake and muklas champion AND other minions, then you've basically already won.
In regards to lava shock, there isn't enough overload cards to justify running a 2 mana deal 2 damage. In that Maly deck tho, then you have a winner with healing wave and elemental destruction.
I see your point about Mukla's Champ, that and maiden are just pushing you over the line.
Mist Caller I just don't have the love for, as someone pointed out it is like a value Thaurassan, but with the Shaman totem maker, I don't see it being value.
You are right about the Lava burst, you just have to play around the overloads and not be too greedy to start.
I am loving the Dragonhawk Rider, that with a Flametongue has seen gg on turn 6 a couple of times with the Tuskar dropping the Flame and then playing a RockBiter onto a Rider for a 16 damage combo. (Does that count as mid-range??)
Oh and I didn't have Al so I subbed Rag in, but it seems ok.
I am glad that TGT has helped out shamen totem with such nice cards, Totem Golem is tough to deal with on turn 2 or 3.
If you're having trouble with early game board presence (as the token paladins do) then do sub in chows instead of some late game cards like Loatheb or even the Mistcaller
just my .02.
I was playing this last night, and I think the mistcaller should stay in. the key here is to get your totem golems early, preferably both with mulligan. Turn 2 -5 you should be able to dominate the board. just with these golems and tuskar/flametounges out, maybe argus them too. Mistcaller imo is a more value tharasian. hes to enable what follows. You may also want to find a way to get a garrison commander in this deck for more totem synergy. People are already picking up that even the weak totems should be destroyed, so the more the merrier.
Thanks for the insight! I have definitely noticed that this deck can now keep up with the early game most of the time and is enough to win against even Midrange Hunter many times. I'm still really torn on the Mistcaller though, he has won some tempo oriented games for me but if I can play a 6 mana 4/4 safely then usually I've already won, but still its fun to throw a shredder into a belcher :D
Love this deck, for the most part.
The Mistcaller doesn't appear to do anything worth running, just stomped a couple shamans using him. (Though also they appeared to be pretty new to the class, so I'm willing to believe he could do better in hands that are... better). I've got Dr. Boom in there now but I'm kind of missing my Doomhammer...
I see you took out the last Zombie Chow for another Thunder Bluff Valiant, that might actually be better as chow is such a dead card late game. Shockingly I've been having pretty good early games even when I don't draw chow so I might give that change a try.
What's your thoughts on Neptulon? I've been meaning to craft him for a while but I don't see many people running him in this meta.
I personally love Neptulon. I ran him in my classic midrange shaman after GvG before it became kind of inconsistent in the meta. It's a great card that gives you a lot of "steam" as your deck/hand is just running out. Depending on what he generates, it could create a card draw engine (Siltfin Spiritwalker,) burst finisher (Old Murk-Eye.) or just Bloodlust targets. I wouldn't replace Al'Akir with him, but in a deck running Bloodlust, he certainly belongs (and I would argue this deck would benefit from a Bloodlust.)
Thanks for the reply! So he almost requires a different style of deck at that point... I think I'll hold onto my dust for now, haha.
Is there a good replacement for Al'Akir the Windlord?
Unfortunately it synergises with Rockbiter, Flametongue and to some extent, Mistcaller really well but if I were you I'd sub in something like Boom, Defender or Drake
I do not have Mistcaller ( i put 1 Fireguard destroyer instead ) and i do not own Sylvanas ( i put Thaurissan ) Is that ok or is my deck much worse?
Thanks
If you don't have Boom then I would put in a defender or maybe a second azure drake. Replacements don't have to be legendary :D
This deck is absolutely amazing. I have not lost in the last 30 games. NO JOKE.
Glad to hear it :D
