OVERALL STRATEGY
This deck relies on the synergies between Grim Patron, Frothing Berserker and Warsong Commander
You want to control the board with all the usual warrior control cards such as: Shield Slam, Execute, Fiery War Axe, Death's Bite. Meanwhile, you are digging for more cards with Loot Hoarder, Acolyte of Pain, Shield Block and Battle Rage.
Once you get a Warsong Commander my friend, it is time to roll. Turn on Darude - Sandstorm. ALL of your minions (Grim Patron, Frothing Berserker, Loot Hoarder, Acolyte of Pain, Armorsmith, Cruel Taskmaster and Unstable Ghoul) can be buffed by the commander.
You will now get a board full of Grim Patron and/or two Frothing Berserkers on fire. Thanks to all the damage triggering cards (Unstable Ghoul, Death's Bite, Cruel Taskmaster, Whirlwind, Battle Rage) and all the enemy minions on the board, you will easily get back full control of the board + direct damage to the opponent's face. Usually the next turn the dude will concede.
Grim Patron's are actually hard to clear, they are safe against Swipe, Unleash the Hounds, Blizzard for exemple. You will only die against heavy AoE such as Flamestrike or Oil Rogue combo. But hopefully you have so much armor and card draw that you can build your next attack with another Grim Patron.
SOME CARD CHOICES
Why not Brawl? The idea of Grim Patron is that you NEED a board to be able to develop efficiently. Brawl is a good tempo card but it is not suited for this build.
Why not Grommash Hellscream? You don't actually lack damage power and you win via control rather than real face damage. The idea is that you win because your opponent no longer has any available card to deal with your full board of Grim Patron. Plus Frothing Berserker is here to provide additional fire power. If you really want to get one then you want to remove one Frothing Berserker.
STRATEGY VS. CLASSES
Obviously the strategy depends on the opponent but most of the time you want to get Armorsmith, Acolyte of Pain, Fiery War Axe. If you play against druid, you may want to keep an execute or a shield slam, while you will keep a Whirlwind or a Death's bite against a face hunter.
FACE HUNTER - EASY - Believe it or not, this one is an easy match-up. Get Armorsmith, Cruel Taskmaster, Whirlwind, Shield Block ASAP and build up your armor. Get Grim Patron on the board ASAP and you will win the game.
RAMP DRUID - MEDIUM - The trouble is that the druid has heavy units. You need to get Shield Slam and Execute to get rid of his early Ancients.
I'll try to post a video and explain more the dynamics whenever I can. Please enjoy!
I play a very similar deck, and it's so much fun. :) The only difference is, that I only have 1 Shield Slam, so I use a Rampage instead. Now that the second wing of BRM is open, I replaced the 2 Loot Hoarders with Axe Flingers, because I felt that the deck had enough card draw, and the Axe Flingers fit the mana curve better. Also they benefit from Death's Bite, Whirlwind, Unstable Ghoul and can combo well with Cruel Taskmaster and Inner Rage.
What do you guys think? I'd really like to hear your thoughts.
This dies hardcore to Paldain. While playing this deck, all I fought was Paladin and Equality tears it apart, lol.
0 wins, 8 losses, all against Pally. They all ran double Equality.
Hi, first of all I've been trying to make Commanding Shout work but I really feel stuck with this card. It is not useful with Grim Patrons because for me a 1 hp Grim Patron is a useless Grim Patron, it just takes a slot on the board and it is mostly just annoying. However Commanding Shout gives 1 card pick so yeah, maybe it is as good as one Loot Hoarder.
About Battle Rage, I feel that it is very convenient. First it costs 0 mana so you can double Battle Rage during your combo turn. Then you can also use it early game, for exemple on your Acolyte of Pain when your opponent plays 3 hp minions. Also if you are really in trouble, for exemple against Thaurissan you have an execute but no way to deal 1 damage to him, I feel like it is ok to use Battle Rage + Execute on that dude (otherwise the game is pretty much over). I like Battle Rage because it is very flexible, especially against aggro decks with very low hp bodies.
Sorry I thought we were talking about Inner Rage. 2x Battle rage in my opinion is quite good especially when you use it once, draw 3 cards with a battle rage in it, you run it again for 3 other cards, total 4 mana..
Any room for a Unstable Ghoul?
Well there is one already! You can either use unstable ghoul or pyromancer, both have specific advantages. You can use unstable ghoul on a board with armorsmith + acolyte of pain while pyromancer you can cast him with a shield slam or an execute but he will probably die very fast. Imo I prefer unstable ghoul
This looks interesting, I do like playing non-control warrior, no one sees it coming past rank 15. Still have trouble with Mech Mage, it'd be cool if you'd explain that matchup. I pretty much need winaxe or their mechwarper screws me.
Hi, I'm trying to make a video about it. Honestly aggro decks are no trouble for me howsoever, because we have alot of cards to deal with them.
Make sure you mulligan for any of those: Cruel Taskmaster / Fiery War Axe / Shield Slam / Shield Block / Armorsmith / Inner Rage / Execute and you should be able to build enough tempo in the game.
Whenever you can drop grim patron go ahead, don't wait for the full combo. Just Grim Patron + Whirlwind or Grim Patron + Inner Rage is good enough against aggro decks. They have to deal with your minions so they will stop going face.
