TOP 100 1st TIME LEGEND
Hi everyone,
Prince Tyiron here! You may know me from such characters as The Real Havoc, creator of the "Apprentice Mech Mage" deck some of you have come to love and cherish.
You can find his deck at
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/150908-1st-time-legend-apprentice-mech-mage
I am non other than his brother, and he has convinced me to share the deck that made it possible for me to reach Legend status for the first time!
Deck Intro
Originally I was a Huntard... shamed to say... and pretty good at it too... but I found that hunters are too inconsistent; therefore, I decided to try my hand at control, and paladin was my first choice. I climbed my way from rank 10 to Legend, and I found instead on going on insane win streaks and similar losing streaks such is life of a huntard, I climbed the ladder very consistently straight to Legend.
Deck Overview
Basic Mulligans
Mulligan for Zombie Chow, Shielded Minibot, Knife Juggler, Muster for Battle. If you are playing a control deck, especially druid, consider keeping Big Game Hunter in your starting hand, due to the fact that they like to ramp/innervate into Dr. Boom quite early. Against the mirror match, I would recommend keeping Consecration if the rest of your hand is decent to get rid of their early muster/quarter master combo they try to do before turn 5.
Class Tips
Hunters - This is by far going to be one of your hardest match ups, due to the fact that they can inflict so much damage early on, and this deck only runs one healing spell, Lay on Hands. You need to understand when to control a hunters board or when to bypass and go face. If you are behind in tempo then you must control, but if you have the board advantage, ensure you go face. You must be aware of the secrets they are running and play around them accordingly. Be efficient with how you do this. If you sense it is a snake trap, because they have thrown out a Knife Juggler with it, then that could be a good time to trigger it and consecrate the hell out of that hunter. Attack with your smallest minions if you think its freezing trap. Just be very weary in the way you test the traps. Hope to get a good starting hand, and keep that huntard at bay.
Warlock (Zoo) - This match up is very similar to hunter. Hope for a good mulligan hand.
Warlock (Handlock) - If you play a handlock you must be very efficient in your trades. Save your aldors for his giants, keep your equality consecration combo for an advantageous time where your getting good value.. i.e. multiple giants. DO NOT... I repeat, DO NOT hit them below 16 life if you do not have a really strong board presence or a clear in your hand to deal with what will come next if you rush their life down.... Double Molten Giants taunt.... Black knight comes very handy for the taunts :)
Mage - Be aware of what type of mage you are playing, Mech, Secrets, Fatigue. This will tell your what type of secrets they are playing as well as how you should play. I.e. not flooding your board when you know he will just freeze/doomsayer your ass.
Rogue - This is all about maintaining pressure so that they use all their damage and removal spells on your minions and not your face. A good start is key to winning this matchup.
Warrior - By far your easiest matchup... Shouldn't have a problem... just be efficient!
I'm not going to go too much into all the other classes, but here are some general tips.
General Tips
Do not play muster for battle early against a druid, because they will most like swipe them away... Sometimes it is better to keep it in your hand until you have quarter master muster combo on turn 10 you can fill your board back up with four 3 3's and a quartermaster just like that.
Watch out when you fill your board with more than 3 minions, as many decks are playing Mind Control Tech, be aware of that.
Watch when you play Tirion Fordring, because it could get Mind Controlled from Priests, or Black Knighted.
Save your Aldors for opportune moments.
Be efficient with your Hero Power, use it as much as possible, don't flood your board early and waste all your cards/Tempo.
Bolvar Fordring.... try to play him as a 6-7 or lower to keep him out of Big Game Hunter Range
Sylvanas Windrunner - Do not play her on an empty board unless you have no choice.. otherwise you will not get full value from her death rattle ability.
Overall Control your opponents board and maintain some sort of pressure and you will do Great!
Proof of Legend Status
If you have trouble with any particular match up, leave a comment and I'll do my best to help.
Also... If there is interest I will write a more in depth write up.
If you want to see my playing this deck you can tune into "The Real Havoc's" stream at http://www.twitch.tv/therealhavoc where you can watch both me and my brother stream our decks to legend each season.
Prince Tyiron OUT!
P.S. don't forget to give this deck a "+1" if you have success or enjoy the deck :).!
THANKS
.
nice deck. i switched 1 shield bot for a sunfury. works very well with the 6 drops. thanks.
i wouldn't play kelthuzad for a replacement... its not really a synergistic legend for paladin... more druid cuz they can hide it behind taunts... i wouldn't swap out the 2nd quarter master, but give it a try if you want.
Are you sure this deck has enough healing? I run two GoK because they are big bodies and I still face face mages, ramp druids, and Midrange hunters even after nerf. I also prefer one holy light but it is not 100% necessary. I subbed one chow for the HL, because getting chow late game is a dead card. Has Cairne served you better than Piloted as far as value? I assume he does the same job which is bait enemy silence before Tirion comes out.
I dont find I ever need the heal... This is not a delay deck... your minions can deal with the board and you dont take a ton of damage too fast. if you were gonna lose vs an agro deck, wasting 5 mana and having a 3 3 just to gain 8 life is not going to save you anyway. I am currently in top 100 with this deck and dont run any heal except lay on hands.. you can try it if you want, but i think it will only make the deck worse.
Would you say 2nd Equality is crucial? I think most decks are running one these days.
you def need two !
Do you have a replacement for any legendaries?
loatheb, sky golems, avenging wrath, bolvar, owl
harrison jones is amazing vs mirror match, warrior shaman and rogue... it is amazing value, if you dont have it you could do loatheb yes, but it would be sub par
Cool!
Dreams of Cairnifornication...:)
So its exactly the same as every other midrange/control pally, only you've decided to run Cairne.
Fascinating, why did you take the time to write such a long deck guide when there is absolutely nothing new here?
You mad bro? I just wanted to share the deck I made it into legend for the first time and the adjustments I made. Are you having trouble maybe I can help? Thanks for your input SaltyWeasel ;)
sorry, prince but i have to agree with weasel.. i see you are happy and proud of yourself but this exact same list has been posted so many times it's very annoying to see the same deck again just with another name put on it (yeah u got cairne inside.. so unique.. or not
also i propose running 1 zombie chow + 1 MC tech rather than 2 chows.. 2 of them usually punishes you more than it helps in the long run.. esp if not drawn within the first 3-4 turns..
I wonder if an owl would improve the deck by a lot. Silence is never bad, right? Also, I am thinking about 2 sky golems over sylvanas and cairne :) What do you think?
you could def play an owl... keep it back to use on sylvanas... I wouldnt replace your own sylvanas tho, that is just a really good card with amazing value.. you could def replace cairne with a sky golem tho.
No I would never recommend removing zombie chow. By far one of the best cards in the deck... as well, they are not useless late game, they use up the opponents mana in other ways opposed to what they would normally use it for, even if they gain life with it, it is still a 2 3 they have to deal with instead of something else which will still get through. Also if they use a weapon to kill it... then they are wasting their weapon on that and only gaining 3 life since they lose 2 trying to remove it.. not to mention that we would probably lose a very high percent of agro deck matches... I would never get rid of zombie chow.
I will hunt you down
avenging wrath, owl, harrison jones, sky golem
Loatheb.
