Version 3: Remade after the most recent patch. Cut Dirty Rat, Armor Vendor, and Wisdom. The deck has plenty of card generation/draw that allows you to refill when needed. As well, it didn't have consistent ways to utilize Dirty Rat, so replaced it with a card that always gives us a benefit: Dryscale. Armor Vendor ran counter to our plan to slowly burn the enemy until a big boom by giving them armor, so replaced with Glacial who adds a ton of utility in its' own right. Audio boi is there to take advantage of our two new 9 cost cards.
Zilliax is now Ticking Module + Perfect Module to deal with increased board presence.
Version 2.5: Forge Update!! Cut Cross Stitch and Frost Drawing Elemental, as well as inefficient 3 drop draw. Replaced with Fireball (for more burst out of orb, and board clear/burn) as well as adding more to the forge package with Ignis. Seeing good success out of this deck (aside from Plagues) and very happy with it!

Feels very good against the new DH spam.
Love playing spells? Love discovering spells? Love burst damage? Love playing a 10 cost spell that does over 20 damage flung at your opponent?
Then this deck is for you! I've played over 50 games with this deck and am almost legend (Curse you Charge Paladins and DKs) and this deck feels incredibly satisfying to play if you're a lover of Control mage decks. Win con is simple, outlast your opponent while casting bigger and bigger spells until at the 11th hour you throw out THE GALACTIC PROJECTION ORB and really unload the big guns. This deck finally makes Sunset Volley feel like the 10 mana card it was always meant to be.

Hey Quinton381, how has your hearthstone life been? Made any tweaks to this deck recently? How are the nerfs treating your matches?
It's been great! I've been playing exclusively this deck archtype since release and been having a blast!
After the recent modifications (Updated above) I've been winning quite consistently. The deck feels better than ever after the changes! Especially the changes with Reno.

I removed Zilliax Deluxe 3000 and put Sif in their place, feels better another kill condition, this deck can already generate a lot of armor and life
For the same reason I removed Wisdom I think it's better to pull Sif. It's inconsistent a lot of the time, sometimes you don't get enough of your rainbow complete and by the time you do you've probably already used the spells you'd like to use with Sif for clear or burn. Let me know how it works for you though!
This deck is shit, mage is shit this expansion. You will get high draws, even when you mulligan, tried it for 50 games 29 vs 21 win loss. RNG does not favor this deck. Go play a different class this expansion.

I'm 11-3 after the rank reset today. This deck feels really fun, sometimes you brick in hand and lose to giant warlock minions, but other games you're pulling the 4th freeze in a row against a hero power druid who can't whack you for 12+ damage.
The burn spells in this deck offer a serious wincon. I made a similar mage build, but focused more on generating random stuff and less on winning. Against wheel warlock or zarimi priest you can point every spell face and kill them faster than they can combo you. Against aggro you keep the board clean and try to maintain as much tempo as you can until you have enough mana to cast your big spells.
I just swapped my zilliax from perfect+recursive (6 mana 4/3) to perfect+haywire (7 mana 7/6) that mitigates it's own downside. 7 versus 4 rush damage has felt really relevant, it's one turn later but it's a lot more healing and tempo.
The orb doesn't have to be lethal, often I use it as a board clear plus face damage plus a 10-drop on board to set up a lethal next turn.
I won a few games against plague DK by playing Reno ASAP instead of waiting to use it as a board clear.

Great Deck. Heaps of fun playing this. Did struggle after D3 but that's probably me! Just good to play Mage again :)
Too many bad cards like dirty rat without hard removal or armor vendor. Disscounting frost spell also not worth it. Flame strike would fit much better.
You have plenty of spells that clear with dirty rat, just for example, reverberations and playing it with Reno. I agree about the frost thing though, updating now with a new version. Flamestrike is bad though because it can replace portal in your orb, and thats part of your final big damage burst.
a man after my own heart, I've been running a similar idea. mine has a few more forge cards and ignis, that 10 mana weapon can get mage really far if you have time to play it. will give yours a shot. my go-to zilliax is recursive+perfect.
I considered running more forge cards, but I like the consistency of how it feels right now! Let me know what you think!

It's a control focused Reno deck centered around a 10 cost card... Yeah, it's a long con deck. That's the point lol.
I feel like every Reno deck I play I end up facing plague Death knight.
