I created and used this super cheap Zoo variation to reach top 40eu with long, fast streaks on the current and previous season.
Its easy and fun to play - with the exception of soulfire/doomguard use, but can be frustratng if opponent's dealt early his removals. Can play decently against anything thrown against it, with Handlock, aggro Hunter and Priest being the hardest matchups
You wanna mulligan only for mana 1 minions. While all zoo guides advise you to keep soulfire, i generally discard it because i don't wanna find myself with 2 soulfires or soulfire/doomguard early on. With ten mana 1 minions and six mana 2 minions we minimise RNG and can easily create combos for optimal early trading. The master plan is to own the board by turn 3 and start going face thereafter depending on the doomguard appearance.
I'm Largo#2784 in game. I have reached legend#100 with shockadin and charge token in the early seasons. This season (s8) i reached top 40 with the fashionable aggro hunter. Feel free to add me as friend and talk about decks only if you are legend, since my friend list is almost full.
Remark1: When facing warriors you just wanna go face all game long. 8/10 times they won't be able to cope with it unless they have good starting hand. The only thing u wanna consider killing is armoursmith to minimise armour, nothing else. u dont even care about how many cards acolyte will give him. u wanna finish the game fast
Remark2: When facing hunters you also want to go face killing low beasts only, we prove to out-dps the midrange hunters without explosive traps. rush hunters with double UTH and double explosives are a hard counter though.
Remark3: When facing priests you want to have his board clear every turn (so he doesn't heal his minions and re-trade), hope he plays slow with thoughtsteals, pray he doesnt have auchenai+circle and the lethal will come fast
UPDATE: mid season 8 and facing hunters in more than 60% of the games and most of them running Explosive Trap . thus we need must swap Shattered Sun Cleric for Nerubian Egg, and Mortal Coil for Ironbeak Owl for better results. Eggs are anti-explosive cards and owls work better on mad scientists, deathrattle units and taunts
Old school, but bloody effective, have to agree that in this meta coil is very very good. have been punishing the new style zoo quite a bit!
eggs and owls are great. the current belcher/deathrattle meta requires one silence/deck, it gets value every game. eggs as a previous poster said, are still a body if silenced, and nearly 1/3 of the deck will buff a body up.
I would like this deck more but it seems to do poorly against hunters with explosive traps :/
edit: also freezing traps slow it down it seems.
Pretty much been using the same zoo deck since naxx was released with the exception of nerubean egg over the mortal coils. The egg is really important in zoo imo because with so many buff cards, you are guaranteed something to buff as no one is touching the egg. Pre-naxx, there was always the issue of opponent clears my board and I tap into argus and abusive sergeants with nothing to buff, losing value.
Plus the egg serves as anti board clear. You can delay a priest's circle combo until turn 6 by putting the egg on the board which can often be too late for them to recover.
I don't play zoo that much. Usually just if I get the warlock quests. But when I do, the win rate is pretty high, like 75-80% maybe. I stopped doing the legend grind after the first few seasons so this is around ranks 5-1 where I usually end up from doing dailies.
The eggs slow down the early game in return for a more explosive mid game. It's like delayed tempo which can actually be much more strong. If you play a 2 mana minion on turn 2, 3 mana on turn 3, 4 mana on turn 4 etc, the opponent has 2 mana, 3 mana and 4 mana to respond accordingly each turn. If you play an egg on turn 2, then they're not using 2 mana to deal with it. Then on turn 4, if you dark iron it to pop it for instance, you're suddenly getting 2 4/4s which is 8 mana worth of minions in 1 turn and your opponent only has 4 mana to deal with it and they often can't.
How many classes can neutralize 2 4/4s on 4 mana?
Let me preface this by saying I'm currently running Nerubian Egg in my Zoo list, not Shattered Sun Cleric.
That said, in response to the draw back of Egg, if control can they will silence Egg before you activate it. There are very few good silence targets in Zoo and the Egg is the best of all of them.
I think Nerubian Egg is what's caused Ironbeak Owl to be preferred over Spellbreaker actually. You can silence the egg on turn 3 and start stabilizing turn 4 instead of waiting until turn 5 with Sludge Belcher, which will usually mean your AOE before stabilizing on turn 4 will activate the egg. Owl solves this issue.
This is a very Meta dependent choice and isn't easily made.
Egg is certainly one of the best silence targets in zoo but to say there are very few good silence targets isn't true. Damn near half the deck is potential silence targets. If zoo plays undertaker into egg and you don't have immediate answer to undertaker on turn 2, you have to pick which one you silence with the owl. Sometimes even if zoo just plays a knife juggler, there's reason to owl it to try and contest it if your hand is slow.
In my opinion, even if the egg is silenced, you don't lose that much because it is still a body on the board to be abusived or dark ironed which essentially makes it a 2/2 for 2. If it doesn't get silenced, then you get insane value from it. More importantly, the more awkward you can make the opponent's aoe, the better. With egg in play, you don't just get blown out by 1 aoe, they would need to silence then aoe which not only requires 2 cards to be in their hand together but either more mana or needs to be done over 2 turns and every turn you delay clearing the board puts you in more danger of dying.
I'm at rank 3, with a 59% win rate so far. Did you make any changes to the deck? I had to add an owl for silence.
coil
How you dont get soulfire + Doomguard around 5-7 mana both togheter... i allways need to waste one or the other or the pray god when i use soulfire it wont take away my doomguard! :`/
Please play this, cheesy zoo players! My Handlock will rape you with no owls and eggs, muahahaha!
Hunter vs handlock is somewhere ~30-50%, but the reason I stopped using it was zoo with owls. This tempo deck I dont mind playing winrate wise, but I dont like it... it feels cheap and exploitive to play against, even though there is a big difference between rank 15 and legend zoo players.
Handlock has way more different lines and choices than pretty much every other deck (ever seen a handlock bot?)
i feel like the deck is good, but it may get rekt by priest board clear/steals and warrior's well-time brawl.
When u say mulligan for 1 drops, does that count towards mortal coil as well ? And do you aim for Undertaker + Deathrattle only?
I just climbed to Legend from Rank 4 today with this deck :) 69-66% winrate over 90-100 games , doing very well vs Hunter and Priest, Warrior almost a guaranteed win too. Tempo is really strong in this meta.
There is downsides to the deck, huge taunts rape you, this is very weak to handlock due to no ironbeaks, quite weak to Druid cause can't deal with taunts. However, it's extremely good vs Zoo, Hunter, Priest, Warrior. As we all know that's the ladder meta :D
Overall a great deck and I feel is much stronger for ladder than the Nerubian Egg/Ironbeak versions. These are bad cards for Hunter and many similar matchups IMO.
Hah! I just made this deck with a couple of tweaks. Three games in a row the opponents conceded at the mulligan. The fear is real.
it's a good tempo deck, but if your opponent have a good board clear, you are pretty much done. not enough deathrattle imo.
without owls how do u answer things like belchers? and without eggs early aoes like consecrate will punish you harshly
theres more classes with early removal than just paladin. that was an example. and i often find myself a few damage off lethal whenever a belcher is plopped down so owl would be game changing
