Latest change

-1x Backstab

+ 1x Vanish

I decided to put Vanish back in the deck, but not taking out the second Vilespine Slayer I added previously (which for me is really really useful), instead I decided to take out Backstab. The reason is because of the popularity of Even Warlocks, Hadronox Druids and Recruit Hunters. The Vilespine is really helpful in those matchups.

To see which decks are the most popular ones at your rank, visit this page: https://www.vicioussyndicate.com/vs-data-reaper-report-95

They do a meta report each week and it's really helpful because the popularity of the decks isn't the same at all ranks. And, contrary to hsreplay.net, they show these data for free (although the statistics is worse).

Mulligan guide

Aggro decks:

Against aggro decks mulligan for: Cavern Shinyfinder, Kingsbane, Fan of Knives, Fal'dorei Strider and Backstab.

Also look for Deadly Poison, Leeching Poison and Cutthroat Buccaneer if you already have Cavern Shinyfinder or Kingsbane in your starting hand.

Control decks:

Against control decks, the strategy is different. You don't often need to hard mulligan for Kingsbane, because you'd want to maximize the effect of your poisons. In fact, differently from the Kingsbane Mill Rogue version of Kobolds and Catacombs, this deck doesn't have the powerful buffs from Southsea Squidface. Now our best buff is Deadly Poison. To maximize its effects, we need to use it in combination with the Shadow Reflection from Valeera the Hollow. So, we don't want to mulligan for Deadly Poison against Control Priest if we already know we'll need it at least at turn 10!

I'll try to go matchup by matchup among the most popular decks to tell you which are the most important cards to search for in the mulligan phase.

Hadronox Druid

Mulligan for: Fal'dorei Strider, Valeera the Hollow, Sprint, Preparation (only if you already have Sprint), Elven Minstrel. Druids don't have efficient board clears, so Fal'dorei Strider + Sprint is a really important combo to fill the board with 4/4s and contest their potential early taunts. Be sure to find and play Valeera as soon as possible, to start duplicating all the important cards like Deadly Poisons, Captain Greenskin, Cutthroat Buccaneers, Eviscerates, etc. Use Vanish and Sap possibly only after your opponents do the Witching Hour + Carnivorous Cube combo. Sap has do be played on Cube!

Big Spells Mage

Main priorities: Valeera the Hollow, Sprint, Preparation (only if you already have Sprint), Elven Minstrel, Kingsbane, Cavern ShinyfinderCaptain Greenskin, Cutthroat Buccaneer. The goal here is to go face as much as you can. Since the main problem are the Water Elementals from Frost Leech Jaina, you should avoid playing minions after your opponent plays Jaina. Try to play them in the earlier turns. So mulligan for them and start buffing Kingsbane from the beginning. Without Water Elementals, they can't freeze you.

Control Priest / Quest Priest

It's almost a guarantied win. It's our easiest matchup. Mulligan for Valeera the Hollow, Fal'dorei Strider, Sprint, Preparation (only if you already have Sprint), Elven Minstrel. Against Control, try to stay above 16 hp (to avoid their OTK combo) and try to play around Skulking Geist by using all the poison you have in hand as quickly as you can. However, even if your opponent plays Geist at turn 6, you can still win (so DON'T CONCEDE!). Quest Priest will instead try to win by fatigue, but they can't! So slow down and play the buffs ONLY with the Shadow Reflection, unless you are heavily pressured by your opponent's minions.

Shudderwock Shaman

In this matchup, you are the aggro player! Try to be as fast as possible, because if your opponent starts his Shudderwock combo, it will be very very difficult to win.

The Main priority is Fal'dorei Strider, but search also for Kingsbane and its buffs. Watchout for their weapon removal, because they will play its effect every turn with Shudderwock!

Even Warlock

If they don't have the Mountain Giants in the first turns, it's more easy to win. Your number one priority should be Vilespine Slayer. Keep also Elven Minstrel to have more chances to draw it. Try holding the Deadly Poisons in your hand, to play them with the Shadow Reflection, but I know from experience that Even Warlock can pressure you very much, so sometimes you'll have to use them before playing Valeera the Hollow

Quest Warrior

The number one priority should be getting at least an 8-attack leeching Kingsbane, countering the DIE, INSECT! effect. You don't have the urgency of killing your opponent before he completes the quest. You simply have to gain more life than then the amount you lose each turn after his quest is complete. Try to draw Valeera the Hollow as soon as possible (or keep it in your opening hand) and start duplicating the buffs.

So: keep Valeera, Sprint, Preparation (only if you already have Sprint), Elven Minstrel. Sap is completely garbage in this matchup. Use it only if you are afraid of dying or if you would kill your opponent without his taunt minion(s).
