Hey, I'm Breytonioso (or Brexton), legend player with over 1000 ranked hunter wins. Midrange hunter has always been my favourite deck, but the viability has been somewhat lacking in the recent meta. Early board leads that translated to turn 7 wins after dropping that highmane on turn 6, or having too much board pressure for a freeze mage to deal with is what made midrange hunter feel so good, but the strength of the deck has faltered beneath the sheer strength of control and combo decks... until now.
Although it's only a few days into The Witchwood, I think it can be agreed upon that the strongest decks we know of are:
- Cubelock
- Odd Paladin
- Even Paladin
- Spiteful Druid
- Spiteful Priest
- Tempo Mage
- Face Hunter, and
- Battlecry Shaman
This deck can consistently win against all of these decks given the matchup is played correctly, but most importantly, this deck crushes the most popular deck on the ladder - Odd Paladin. Of the 10+ games I have played against odd paladin using this deck, I have won over 90% of them due to early board efficient minions and cards which can counter the flood paladin brings to the board each turn.
If this receives 20 upvotes I will write a detailed guide, but for now have fun climbing with a hunter deck that requires at least some brain cells.
We're waiting for the Guide.
just took this deck up against odd paladin and he absolutely pasted me. i had no way of clearing the board effectively and once silver sword came and started buffing his board spam i was done.
Please explain how the odd pally used silver sword.
if your going to lie. At least put some effort in.
How about adding DK Rexxar to this?
So what about this guide? I would be so much thankfull for it :D
Here are the cards i'm missing;
2 Cave Hydra
2 Corpse Widow
Arfus(I replaced this with DK Rexxar)And Spellbreaker
Any good replacements for all of these cards?
Bearshark for Hydra
Ironbeak Owl for Spellbreaker
Quite a few 5 drops for Corpse Widow. Some budget options like Stranglethorn Tiger, Nesting Roc, Tundra Rhino are what I recommend.
Shaw has better stats, lower cost and attacking heroes isn't that useful.
It says that the deck crushes odd paladin but I'm getting the floor utterly wiped by them with this deck. I'm clearly doing something wrong, but can someone let me know what that might be? It feels that no matter how much pressure I build or how much I clear their board, they are able to fill it up to 7 minions within a single turn with no effort and then they just play Level Up and I reach an immediately unwinnable position. Any advice?
good deck! struggling against rogue tho. and not really sure how this counters cubelock?
I'm 6-0 vs Cubelock now idk how either. 5 out of the 6 games I killed them on turn seven/eight by either quickly removing the turn 5 Demon with my rush empowered minions or silencing the possessed Lackey. You win on board and try to kill them before they cube voidlords and / or play gul'dan. Also play around defile and SmOrc their face as hard as you can.
thanks for the deck, testing it out at legendary now, seems pretty strong.
i would like to point out there may be better choices for arfus and eaglehorn, rexxar being the obvious one and unsure regarding eaglehorn, but it does seem as a sub optimal card considering there are no secrets.
thanks again
The mistake so many builds have is no weapon removal in a heavy weapon meta. The strongest play for Warlock is the weapon, those free turns allow easy cubes on either doomguard or voidlord spells easy win for Warlock.Silence is being used a lot now by most players,i have seen top players using 2x owl, except face hunter but that deck has a losing WR so why bother.
Cave Hydra seems nice on paper especially going after pallies but it just seems to be dead soon it hits the board,it it lives and playing pally then great.Yes i see mention of Azalina, interesting idea,i say try it and see how it works maybe even stymies pally lol but at 7 mana it is slow and costly and Pally already gets their Vinecleaver out that same turn 7 so it's too late to stop that.
Warriors are creeping in now, pallies use weapons,Hunter mirrors and yes Rexaar should be an auto include, strongest card in the class.
What about Candleshot ? I think it's a really good weapon against cubelock because of the 2/1 and against paladins and hunter which are the most popular decks in the ladder. If you had to place 2 of them, what would you replace ? Btw really great deck +1
I don't recommend Candleshot as it has little value and gets you nowhere. If I were to put it in I would remove 1 Eaglehorn Bow and one Unleash the Hounds.
I am having a lot of difficulty with this deck.I am at rank 18 and am having trouble with odd paladin, cubelock, and a lot of other decks. Maybe I'm not playing properly, but I feel like this deck doesn't have enough stuff to deal with aggro or control.
This deck got me from rank 15 to rank 5, I then got to legend with spiteful druid. I doubt it's the list, but it does struggle against cubelock more than any other deck. If you're seeing mostly cubelock on ladder even at rank 18 I would consider playing another deck.
Then the title is click-bait! You didn't get to rank lg with this hunter deck?
What would you recommend being a replacement for Arfus? I don't own any other hunter legendary cards besides Houndmaster Shaw. How about Acidic Swamp Ooze or Corrosive Sludge to counter weapons from paladin and warlock?
I'd add another Flanking Strike.
