UPDATED - 5 to Legend matchup tips.
Hi all!
Started actively playing on 18/12 from rank 12. On 22/12 started playing classic Spiteful Summoner Priest from rank 7. Became rank 2 on 24/12 and troubles started. Classic build is too weak against agro, especially AgroPal and Murloc Pal. Started research and finished with this build. Became legend on 25/12 with win streak from Rank 1 three stars:
Deck is extremely powerful with solid start and good late game. It has no bad matchups. Against Warlock, Pal, Hunter, Druid, Warrior keep small minions, against Mage, Priest , Rogue keep Spiteful Summoner and early game cards. Don't waste your dragons too fast - keep in mind that you should have one in hand to activate Duskbreaker and Drakonid Operative. DK is you mass removal when you lose table control. Mind Control is extremely powerful against Big Priest and Demonlock - just steal their Obsidian Statue or Voidlord and attack with lethal!
Few words against matchups that you will play against most on 5 to Legend ranks.
AggroPal (Murloc, Silver hand versions), AggroLoc, AggroHunter, AggroDruid - a lot of matches. Every second match will be against them.
Just keep taunts, cheap cards and Duskbreaker in opening hand. Don't play Faerie Dragon if you don't have another dragon in hand - keep in mind that you need a dragon in hand to activate Duskbreaker. Wait until you opp will spam the table and then use Duskbreaker. Congrats, you won!
Razakus Priest - every third match against them.
Keep Spiteful Summoner in opening hand. Try to kill opp as fast as possible. Don't lose your life - keep in mind that opp can deal up to 26 damage to you in one turn. Good targets for Mind Control: Priest of the Feast, Lyra the Sunshard. Anyway it's a good matchup, I've won 75% of all games against them.
Demonlock (CubeLock, Control Lock) - every 4th match against them.
Good mathcup. You can have problems only with Cube/Umbra/Doomguard combo - up to 20 dmg in your face if you have no taunts. Usually you just outvalue them and they die from no-cards-in-deck-damage. Kabal Songstealer shines in this matchup - silence their Possessed Lackey or Voidlord. Mind Control is a gem: steal their Voidlord to totally destroy their strategy.
Any Rogue - every 3rd match.
Rogues are autowin for this deck. Just control table, kill their minions. Try to get Vilespine Slayer from Drakonid Operative and use Mind Control on their Van Cliff.
Secret Mage - every 3rd match.
Close to autowin. Problems occur when they use Aluneth - try to kill them faster. Keep you health in 15+ range, kill their minions, attack them in face - you will definitely win!
Big Priest - one of 4-5 matches.
Good matchup. Play agressively, steal their Statues with MC.
Spiteful Summoner Priest - one of 4-5 matches.
DK shines here. If you see a lot of fat guys on opposite side of table - kill them all with Shadowreaper Anduin!
Here are all the decks that you'll meet in 5-Legend ranks. They all are winnable.
UPDATE: thanx to all for your comments and pluses. =) Try my new Druid deck, it's fun to play: Non-aggro non-Jade COMPETITIVE Druid.
Thanks for a response. So far, I've met 3 Warriors, all of them playing Quest. Won all matches :)
I think you're good against control warrior anyway, I would just keep anti-aggro cards so you don't get run over if that's what they are.
bad deck wow has no purpose
creeper is a great tempo card .. what do you think about adding it ?
lol "Rogue is autowin" MC their Vancleef, and what if they make a 12/12 on turn 5 ?
and the very next game you dont draw Duskbreaker nor get on mulligan vs aggropaladin.
Well... bad luck :D
spiteful summoners were in the bottom third of my deck. FeelsBadMan.
This deck can win even without them. =)
Yeah, classic version of this deck without Acolyte of Agony and Tortollan Shellraiser was weak against agro without Duskbreaker, or even 2 of them. But now you have a bunch of small creatures with taunt and lifesteal, so matchup against Pals is ok. And I lost 1 from my 10 hames against Rogue, it's not a problem at all.
I tried playing your deck around Rank 2-3, I gave it a good run, maybe like 40 games. Win rate was like 65% but tanked to around 58%, kept facing aggro pallies and honestly I don't even think the Acolyte of Agony and Tortollan's do much against them. It's a really quick clear for them, you just keep getting over run, AOE is the only way. I found if you don't have duskbreakers you are in serious trouble. I ended up going back with the Netherspite Historians because they give me more duskbreakers pretty regularly and have won me several clutch games
Thanks for posting this deck! I was having so much trouble against aggro paladins, seems like 50% of people I face are aggro pallys. What's your opinion on Grant Archivist VS Shadowreaper? I really liked using Grant Archivist sometimes for control games, but I'd like to hear you take
Hi, man! Thanks for your thanks. =) At first I used Grant Archivist in a deck like this, but without Acolyte of Agony, Tortollan Shellraiser, Shadow Ascendant and with two copies of Free From Amber. But that deck had 10 7+ cost cards, which meant that in every open hand you would have at least one of them. It was not OK against aggro decks. Plus even in that deck good play of Grant Archivist was in one of three cases. He could cast Mind Control on one of their weak creatures or cast Free From Amber and give you something like 5/4 creature for 8 mana. Also spells that he casts dissappear from your deck, so you can't use them yourself or to trigger Spiteful Summoner.
Shadowreaper is great if you lose table control. Also it's great in mirror matches with similar decks. While we can't use more common mass removal like Dragonfire Potion, option to use Shadowreaper is great.
As we have total 9 dragons in deck, on turn 4 we have good chances to play Duskbreaker. Even without him we have good table control with our small creatures. =)
You can use second Twilight Drake. So you'll lose mass removal but increase number of dragons to trigger Duskbreaker and Drakonid Operative. Plus Twilight Drake is good creature with 4 attack and a lot of health which is a problem for Razakus Priests.
