April 2016 Card Nerf
It was announced on April 20th, 2016 that Ancient of Lore would receive a nerf.
- Card draw reduced to 1 card, down from 2.
Quote from BlizzardDrawing cards is powerful in Hearthstone, and Ancient of Lore easily found its way into nearly every popular Druid deck. We’d like Druid players to feel that other cards can compete with Ancient of Lore, so we’ve reduced the number of cards drawn from 2 to 1.
Now Nourish may see some play...
It's Force of Nature that is the problem because of its charge, and the opponent has no turn to react. I hate to say this but Ancient of Lore is also a problem because of its draw effect that made Druids very consistent in drawing their combo.
Savage Roar is powerful indeed, but it is a finisher, and it is only powerful if there are plenty of minions in the board. If the opponent doesn't clear the board, knowing there is the threat of the savage roar, then he deserves to lose.
I don't mind the nerf that much but the logic behind it is completely retarded. Every class has cards that are played universally in all their decks.
Hit too hard.
Even if it was a 5/6 or 6/5, or any stat boost...
Or 7 life...
I'm not a big druid player... just saying... yucky nerf. Nerfing FON and Keeper (which did not really need a nerf btw) was enough.
Seriously. This is one of those cards that provides control. Which is the theme of old gods isn't it. This was an OK card. The fact it was a seven drop gave druid a minion to play on turn 7. The heal was only used if absolutely nessecary because the cards were a better option. And I expect some great druid cards to somehow replace this. Or just buff it in someway where your not getting ripped of by playing tis card. I would suggest 6 mana
I liked this card so much...
Yeah, Blizz. went the wrong way on this nerf. Instead of reducing the number of cards drawn they should have increased the casting cost. Making it cost 8 would have been brutal but at least kept it somewhat playable.
Why would you EVER play this card over Azure. Name me one logical reason. It's just a "minion" so no synergy. 7 mana 5/5 no synergy or 5 mana 4/4 with spell power and a dragon lol. Just makes no sense wtf is blizzard smoking over at their HQ. Unless you are really running azure AND this card.. but I don't think most people will. 6 mana would make it balanced. 7 mana is just dust bait.
The only reason it could still be playable is because you are considering the heal.
If you are not planning on healing, why would I play 2 mana more for 1-1 more of stats?
Man, all these druid players crying, i love it
RIP. 800 dust and 2 free slots. Who the hell wants to pay 7 mana to draw 1 card? Suddenly Nourish becomes a great card.
Yeah, 7 mana for a 5/5 body that draws 1 card or u gain 5 health isn't that relevant anymore. The 'gain 5 health' wasn't being used that much too, well that 800 dust is gonna be usefull xD
Does this mean we have to rely on Coldlight Oracle now? I cri evertim
"Justice demands retribution!" - You had your days, Ancient of Lore.
This seems more fair than people think. 5 mana 5/5 is on par as far as stats, Card draw is valued at 1.5 mana, so that would be a 6.5 mana 5/5 and then for the additional .5 mana you have the choice to heal any target for 5 instead of drawing a card.
Keep in mind that unless the cards we have yet to see from WOG has an amazing healing card then druid doesn't have all that many option for healing. Cult Apothecary, Earthen Ring Farseer, Refreshment Vendor, or Ancient of Lore are really the only cards that can heal that one might consider using in druid standard decks. Assuming that Ramp druid is the new standard type of druid then it is likely it will require some sort of healing to be able to last longer against aggro or midrange. This nerf does exactly what it was meant to do, it makes the card no longer an auto include. This card now is likely going to be included more for the healing benefit with the additional bonus that if you are not in need of healing it can also be used to draw a card. I would guess this is likely a 1 of card now rather than a 2 of card
"If you rely on heal, you can play Alexstraza, A nine mana Legendary that is sometimes a heal, but sometimes not."
Ah totally forgot about Alex. Yeah, maybe this card doesn't see play but it definitely might still see play especially in a meta where you might need more healing
Now it is a way worse Azure Drake.
It should cost 6 mana or buff the heal to 8 hp..
Guardian of the Kings doesn't have a choose, has 1 more stat and 1 more heal. I don't think putting this to an 8 he heal would be balanced at all. It has a choose effect, it's versatile, this is fine.
