Returning Player Gifts - Up to 150 Packs!
Blizzard decided to do some end of year cheer and gave select players in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Africa up to 150 packs, as a gift to entice them to come back and play Hearthstone again. Read some of the details about what went into this below!
Quote from BlizzardHello everyone,
With the 24.6 update we launched a special test campaign to welcome players that are returning to Hearthstone, in the form of 20, 80, and 150 card pack bundles. It’s been great to see the excitement from players receiving those bundles, but we’ve also seen some common questions on the details.
Regarding eligibility, this campaign is limited to particular regions and types of players. For this iteration of returning player gifts, we’ve expanded the number of countries across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Africa.
Various additional factors went into determining gift tiers across player groups, such as when they were last active in Ranked, or the number of expansions they’ve engaged with. Those eligible received their gift on November 2, and have until December 31 to claim it.
As we continue making major updates to the game, our goal is to make it easier for players who may have missed out for a while to come back in, catch up to what’s new, and re-experience the fun of playing Hearthstone. We’ll continue monitoring data along with your feedback, and hope to make these more widely available in the future as we refine and welcome more players back to the Tavern.

when i saw this news i log into my account and i got big dick from bli$$ard
me2 bro
You guys seem to take for granted that they are gifting packs because they are losing players. This might be the case.
Keep in mind that the goal here is to optimise profit, so this gift might very well be simply to increase their profit, not because the user base is leaking, although it might be the case because of snap. The timing seems oddly convenient.
They should just rename the game to Denathtriustone since it’s mostly about who can spring Denathtrius first anyway or steal it/remove it. Since they’re not nerfing the card, I imagine that’s what they’re going for… which might be why they are gifting 150 packs for players to come back. Maybe they could nerf the card to encourage more deck variety and wincons but I’m not a designer, what do I know.
People expressed a guess. And it is totally correct. This is not a secret, it is public information. The official data, Blizzard's financial statement (https://investor.activision.com/annual-reports) declares a bleeding in users. This is only Blizzard (no Activision and King)
Now, we obviously don't know the complete situation of HS. Anyway, with 42M users during the 30/09/17 and 24M users in 31/12/21 we can fairly guess, considering that Blizzard lost nearly half of total users, that also HS, probably lost many users. As you known, Activision Blizzard doesn't release data per game but per company. Profit is also going very bad. Blizzard should stop, in my opinion, this madness with monetization, they should listen to customers, and they should treat people better. This is only a dream, because this company seems a train derailed.
Disclosure: I don't see the total year 2020 in order to have a complete view (so this chart is missing 2 months for 2020). I don't care, I don't want to dig more.
I can also add that when you have such bleeding in users, you mainly have 5 ways to proceed, considering that the aim of a company, by book definition, is to "create value for shareholders" (and therefore, to increase profit and to increase dividends and share value):
Blizzard is using a mix of all 5, and it is clear in what they did during the past years (if you think about, you will see a Blizzard's example in every point). Anyway, my biggest complaint is that they are doing the point 3 very poorly, but instead they are pushing point 4 so hardly.
Here some free shit, now please come back and pay us for new shit because we are losing players due to our decision to monetize everything in hell. It is F2P you know, so we can ask 3.700 € in signature cards, runestones, battle pass, 4 expansions to purchase and 4 middle expansions, uncountable cosmetics. All overpriced shit to pay for. It is F2P so we like supermarkets.
Anyway, is it fair to give free to people what people paid, how much? Roughly 150 € (if they purchased it) 4 months ago? I have not purchased anything, but if I would, I would be pissed off. This is the problem when you sell overpriced shit and people leave it. So, if this is a present, Blizzard should also refund who spent, otherwise is Blizzard punishing who is playing and spending in the game? This is a nonsense. Otherwise, we have more gain in packs in not playing the game. LOL.
My friend who's been playing daily for years got them for some reason.
Got 150, installed game, opened, dusted, uninstalled.
Thanks! See you in another 5 years :o)
BTW I would really like to gift those packs to someone else, so sad I cant :/
I quit HS for my gamedev hobby, game was fun but sadly dont have time (at least untill I release my first game :O)
Good luck on your game! Let me guess...is it a TCG with mini transactions?
Thanks!
And nope, its a retro platformer with no MTX, playable offline on PC/MAC (maybe consoles later if successfull).
I was about to make a full scaled MMO á la WoW killer... but... you gotta start humble as a single dev, you know? :O)
Giving cards to others? What do you think this is, some kind of card game?
Bulls*it. I didn't get even a single pack on my account I haven't been logged in for over 5 years.
It's not guaranteed though? You need to fulfil certain criteria to be eligible.
which is unfair af? I came back to HS 4 motnhs ago and now only playing BGs. I've had a one year long hiatus after i purchased a big bundle and a premium reward track. For now, the only meta deck i can craft is aggro druid. XD Buck Flizzard.
Why is it unfair? It isn't some scheme to get you kitted out with a large collection. It's to get some players enough cards to that they are tempted to play again and in the end of course spend money.
I mean the post explicitly states that it depends on factors such as "expansions engaged in" - which could very well mean "money spent in". Also "expanded the number of countries across [..]": maybe OP's country isn't eligible?
So yeah, dozens of factors behind the curtains that could exclude the OP from being selected for something deliberately stated being a "test campaign".
I got 150 packs.
Not going to bother opening them since I only play battlegrounds nowadays. Ranked is dead to me.
I’m one of the people who received 150 packs. There was 75 from one of the recent sets and another 75 from standard or whatever it’s called. I played the game heavily and have spent at least $300-$500 on the game having bought sets and packs. I played ranked and got to 3 at peak which I think is around plat-Diamond now? So a bit above average. I have also not played or opened the game in 2 years. I quit because the game became obscene with its monetization and the necessity, even with playing a lot like I did, to maintain meta decks.
Since then I’ve found Legends of Runeterra to be a significantly superior game and monetization system. I honestly wish MtG and other games would follow their suit but LoR has never garnered that better popularity.
I’m giving Hearthstone a new shot. The mercenaries mode has had my interest the most at this point. Gotta re-engage and learn new mechanics and whatnot. The Tavern Pass is intriguing because it’s a BP that actually is balanced and gives you good currency for playing a lot as it should. How much *a lot* is - that I have no idea about.
I have a friend who hasn’t played for as long as I have. Also received packs but he only received 40. Spent decent money but probably $100 or less. Peak rank was probably 15 or maybe 10.
Screw Asia and South America, apparently
Nice, so current active players get f*** all, thanks Blizz!
I last played before Renathal and came back a few days ago, after the 24.6 update, mostly because I know about the free deck.
And now I see this. I got....... absolutely no free packs. At all.
I think I'll quit for good now
