Voyage to the Sunken City - Secrets Of The Artworks

Voyage to the Sunken City - Secrets Of The Artworks

Today we've prepared an article that points out all the cool bits that you might or might have not known about the artworks from the newest expansion Voyage to the Sunken City.

We'll divide all the pieces into multiple sections based on what's the purpose of the part we're trying to point out.

We'll show by default our own favorite picks that will be automatically displayed when you load the page, but you can always click on the "Spoiler" button at the bottom of each section to look for more cool artwork curiosities.

There will be a quick description below each image if you're curious what's the purpose of the displayed image.

In this artwork, you can see Lionfishes next to some naga creature.

In this artwork, you can see Mechafishes next to a Seascout Operator swimming on the bottom of the ocean looking for something. There's also a statue behind them. These statues appear on multiple card arts - you can see all of them in a special section in this article.

In this artwork, you can see a person trying to collect some light-looking source on top of Coldlight Lurker's head. The cool thing about this art is that if she would've successfully collected the light source (which is displayed in the game by Dredging into a Murloc), the other Coldlight Lurker would've started chasing her while the other one would've stayed hidden in the seaweed, that's why it summons an additional 1/1 Murloc.

Cute Animals

In this part, you can see artworks that contain some cute-looking animals.

In this artwork, you can see a cute octopus providing ink for this naga creature.

In this artwork, you can see a cute octopus trying to use an ink splash to cover its way into safety.

In this artwork, you can see a cute panther, which you can't see in the game. (This panther was also on the small preview in the reveal calendar for this card).

In this artwork, you can see a crab on the bottom, trying to escape from being stepped on by Bubblebot. (Tamed Crab is probably not related to this crab, though).

In this artwork, you can see a cute fish looking confusedly at this glowing goblet.

In this artwork, you can see an octopus trying to point out somewhere with its tentacle. The weird thing about this octopus is that it has... hair? (Could be sea weed, but still looks questionable).

In this artwork, you can see a gnome mech holding a cute turtle.

In this artwork, you can see another small octopus trying to hide from this big deep-sea Murloc.

Statues Everywhere!

(there's also one artwork we've mentioned above that also contains a statue).

Details On Cards

In this part, we'll point out some details on artworks that are not that easy to see in the game.

[Feel free to click on the image to open a full-sized version]

In this artwork, you can see a creature trying to steal a Murloc egg while it's getting chased by 2 other Murlocs (that's why it draws 3 Murlocs in total).

This artwork is interesting, because Coral Keeper summons this Coral Elemental for each spell school you've cast this game, and that's why the corals on top of Coral Elemental have different colors - Nature (brown), Fire (orange), Frost (blue), Arcane (purple), Fel (green), Holy (can possibly be the yellow part), Shadow (dark blue).

In this artwork, you can see that there's a city in the distance.

In this artwork, you can see a small deep-water Murloc (which is also related to the 2 cards on the image) hiding behind a rock.

In this artwork, you can see some broken swords and helmets of fallen knights that probably died in a battle with this giant naga creature.

In this artwork, you can see that there's a shovel behind this sleeping naga for some reason.

In this artwork, you can see the poor pirate basically before he dies after the curse spirits drag him down to the bottom of the ocean while also stealing his mask that allowed him to breath.

In this artwork, you can see some big underwater creatures (could be the same species as Blackwater Behemoth) looking to attack a ship on the top of the ocean - another Dredge mechanic reference.

In this artwork, you can see why this card is called Mothership. And yes, I also thought these things on top were lights.

In this artwork, you can see how the artwork makes sense with the Dredge mechanic, a pirate is collecting some treasure from the bottom of the ocean.

In this artwork, you can see that Pufferfist has a map tattooed on his belly + an anchor on top of his head. The weird thing about this art is... Why is there a light in that sunken ship?

In this artwork, you can see that Twin-fin Fin Twin is actually not surfing on a surfing board but on a shark instead!

Other References

In this part, you're able to see a few really cool references.

[Feel free to click on the image to open a full-sized version]

This artwork is probably not the most interesting one, but if you closely look at the Shark on Captain Hooktusk's belt, you can see that the old shark had teeth while the new one doesn't, does that mean she's now less furious? :-)

This artwork is a reference to a famous painting by Spanish artist Francisco Goya - Saturn Devouring His Son, if you want to learn more about that, click HERE.

This artwork was made as a joke by the devs to be a reference to a Holy Mackerel being dead and cooked into Sushi.

Azsharan Treasures

In this part, you can see how the Azsharan Treasures change their artwork.
