Thats because is no more Blizzard anymore. It's Billgatizzard now!
No more poisonous blankets to africa, now he's helping saving this company.
Ok... will Ironbeak Owl finally get unnerfed now ?
It took freeze shaman 3 years to become an actual thing after Knights of the Frozen Throne, and one expansion later it is silenced lol, feels bad.
It counters freeze shaman. My favorite card.
FINALLY a good silence card! Silence is so needed at this game and for some reason it seems Blizz hates this mechanic.
Yeah, seems like it's not only blizzard that hates this mechanic lol
I really don't know why this card receives that many hate. People complains about sticky minions and boards and OP effects. Silence was always the perfect counter for all of it, but we never had good silence tools (apart from Priest that now has shard, which is awesome)
This is a good reliable tool and it can go in LOTS of decks. Even in agro decks, since it has beast synergy with Druid and Hunter.
Do you know what makes this card even worse? The fact that is a beast! the stats aint bad also 2/4 for the effect it presents
cuz U can drop 2 aoe silence? Maybe
shammy has 4 freeze🤔
I like this card purely because it hard counters Snowfall Guardian lol. Only downside of course is if you have buffs or other effects on your side of the board when it happens.
We can care less about this card if the developers didn't mention that they want the new Standard year to have more board-focused gameplay.... The main reason why none of the cards you mentioned was ground-breaking at all during the last Standard year is due to the existing archetypes that they were pushing for... The year was mainly filled with Combo OTKs, Spell-heavy, Quest decks, and Aggro that could care less about Silence...
That is exactly the point, thanks. I was really hoping that with the rotation and with some wise choices for the core set, we could counter the power creep of quests and heroes and delve into board focused meta. We will have to wait another year I guess T.T
One silence card won't break a board based meta on its own tho.
Slimes didn't demolish weapon plays in the bullwark days either.
A tech card needs to be in the set in case smth goes too far.
Don't know man, I mean you are right of course, I might have been a bit overdramatic. But a silence ALL effect for everyone, on a board based meta is very powerful, that means no stealth, no untargetable, no taunt, no buffs, no lifesteal, no nothing on the back of a single card. At least the slime tech targeted a very specific strategy, this targets everything (assuming a board based meta, again)
I have met not that many boardstates that fit a "a 'silence all' effect will completely solve this" scenario
- maybe against freeze shaman (or a dr priest in wild).
The minions will still be there though and yours will be hit aswell.
IMO it looks like a "one of" tech card in control archetypes, if there is a heavy DR or buff meta (giant stats won't be affected really).
Its stats are too bad for a reasonable aggro list.
Well, you are assuming the current meta, I guess, which wouldn't be a massive problem as Legend_Enomber has pointed out, you have missed some other instances like buffadin or stealth lethal setup from rogues or remove all draw from token druid, to mention some, but yes I agree in that currently would not be a biggie.
Now moving on to the next meta I think is not very wise to print right away this massive tool to deal with board shennanigans right from the begining. And it doesn't need to solve absolutely all board state situations to be a bad card for the meta progression.
I agree with Reacherl, this card alone wont break anything but still it can be disgustingly OP against certain decks.
A quick example, Murloc Warlock is shaping to be a deck and many people are underestimating it and Mech Paladin both will problably be a thing with Dun Baldar Bridge etc, this card is very very strong against these type of decks.
I don't agree 100% with @Reacherl.
As you said, on control this is a good and reliable tool for classes that can't handle sticky boards. But it can be also on agro as a tech card with only one copy against buff decks. It won't be about handling the board state. It'll be for "healing" yourself and winning the face-race. If you reduce the damage input the opponent has, it gives you more time for winning.
Think about, for example, Quest Hunter. If Beast Druid is a real problem with its buffs and shenanigans, having one copy of this can give you one or two turns more for winning. On face decks, one or two additional turns is game winning.
First of all, I am grateful that this discussion is a rather civil one!
I agree that aggro decks could use it in some cases as a "de"taunt/finish or face-race way, but especially your example of quest hunter is questionable. The deck can't afford too many non-dmg-spell or -draw cards (or it won't finish at all) and if the hype around Emergency Maneuvers + Raj Naz'jan is warranted, it actually is quite full already (even anti synergy with the secret).
Aggro decks need good draws early too and a 3 mana 2/4 is a very bad draw unless you specifically need a (taunt-) silence.
My prediction is that most aggro decks will probably use buffed small minions in one way or another, so they won't want a self silence.
@exhem What would that mass silence target tho? Most colossals for example have rush / do something immediatly, have big stats or benefit from silence. The og stats will still be there after all. Druid and Shaman being the exception, but those have other stuff to do and more/other threats.
I am not saying Smothering Starfish is a bad card, but it isn't the downfall of boardbased games either.
Oh yes, on that one I agree. This will not crush boardbased decks, don't know how it would because you're actually 100% correct, even with Freeze shaman, you're left with a board full of 3/3 and 3/4, which is also a treat in some scenarios haha.
I don't think running only one copy of this on a deck like Quest Hunter would hit that much. It'd only be for hard mulligan. But we have to wait and see.
