Potential Golden Card Upgrade Feature Datamined
We've just datamined that the "upgrade a card to a golden one" feature might've been added to the game with the latest patch and potentially can be one of the new features that might be announced with the new Hearthstone year on April 5.
The last time something similar got added into the game (quest concede warning), it became available with the next patch, which might mean that this could see the light in the upcoming expansion and new year patch - 23.0.

Discussions about this feature from developer AMA's
We've heard a thing or two about this feature before in multiple threads under the developer AMA posts:
One of the first Tweets is from 1 year ago
No timetable but it's something actively being kicked off as a project. It's part of the same project where we plan to make card back and (some) hero skins craftable. The open questions are how it looks in the UI, should you be able to use gold if you want, some others.

And the last one is from December - which isn't that long ago
still on the table :)

What could this feature do?
- The whole idea behind this feature is to make your non-golden card into a golden version for a reduced price.
- There's also a possibility that you'll be able to use your gold as a type of payment instead (or on top) of your arcane dust (Source via the first Tweet).
- This feature will probably have a new special button next to the currently existing "disenchant" and "craft" a card buttons in the collection manager.
- Because we haven't heard anything official, we don't know how much resources you'd need to spend in order to make a normal card into a golden one, but we can speculate that some kind of a price reduction might be applied (otherwise this feature wouldn't make any sense).

As far as I am concerned the plus of golden card is that if you get one in a pack then it will dust for more. I don't get jealous or worried if folks have all golden cards or fancy skins. Frankly if I bother forming an opinion it is that they either have way too much money or dust. Alternatively they are just shallow eejits and should possibly spend more time on playing as opposed to looking good!
I imagine you have to own the card to upgrade it to Golden.
I wonder if you dusted a legendary (Kazakus 3.0) do you still have to pay the full 1600 + 1600 for the golden version hmm?

Just last week i spent 20k to make a golden unseal the vault deck, ops :(
...Why? What's so special about golden cards?
Silly question isnt it? why do people buy skins? because it looks good.
It makes your opponent jealous if you have full golden deck and they don't which causes them to make mistakes obviously ;)
When you care about the best play possible, you just don't see that even yours cards are golden. What you see when you look at your golden card without even noticing that it is golden, is the value that card provides or should you play it in this exact situation or other things like this. It happens naturally, at least for me.
No what I mean is imagine you are playing against deck that you hate, now imagine it is all golden. Triggers you even more :D
