SUMMARY
- New System: Buddies! Every Hero in Battlegrounds now gets a special Buddy Minion that is ONLY for them, that you get when you fill a powerbar. On filling the first tick of this power bar you get 1 Buddy minion. On completing the bar you get 2 more, so enough to make a triple!
- Getting to the first tick on your Buddies powerbar is supposedly going to happen around Tavern Tier 2 or turn 5.
- We can assume that every Buddy will have some interaction with what makes a Hero work, or what makes a Hero special. Example: New Hero Bru'kan has a buddy that stores the uses of his Hero Power and unleashes them again with a deathrattle!
I guess Tony Two-Tusk just sucks then :/
How? Even if its combat only, you pop that on an avenge minion, or any minion with a combat effect, and its insane. Soul Juggler/Spider tank/etc
Mainly because it's extremely limited. First, all it does in plenty of builds is give one of your cards like +3/+3 or whatever. Sure, it works well with a few cards, Soul Juggler being one of them (not sure which card you meant by Spider Tank), but those are the exception, the majority are pretty mediocre.
Secondly, it skews your board a LOT. You have to dedicate a slot to the Buddy, which is a weak card on it's own - the stats aren't particularly impressive and it's almost impossible to buff to a significant degree - and you also have to put the minion you want to make golden as your right-most minion, which means you can't put your taunt there like you usually would, and it makes you more vulnerable to cleave. It also greatly limits the amount of cards you can realistically make golden. There's plenty of cards that would be great to make golden, like Goldrinn or the Macaw, that you just can't really place as your rightmost minion, since you need them to attack early for your build to work. And you're Reno, if you've got a card that you really want golden in your build you're going to just use your hero power on it and have it permanently golden instead of having to temporarily make it golden game after game after game.
And after all of that, if you've navigated past all of these downsides, all your opponent needs to do to play around your buddy is to play a small taunt, since that will just prevent the buddy's deathrattle from triggering.
I don't get it. The buddy system looks awesome and fun, but I thought it was supposed to help balance the game to make it so lesser played heroes see play. Maiev, Omu, Reno, and Millhouse are 4 of the most played, but they also got the best buddies. I can't imagine a world where reno's buddy doesn't completely break the game. It's soooo easy to set up. Whilst AFK is almost never played and her buddy is sooo bad, as well as Patchwork's being super mediocre. Blackthorn's buddy is pretty underwhelming as well. Don't get me wrong, Im really looking forward to the system and think its the most genius idea HS has come up with in years.
Reno's buddy effect is just for the combat and not for the rest of the game (unless you target Tarecgosa)
i just realized reno's isnt permanent. That makes it significantly worse, so it doesnt break the game. NVM
you do know reno’s buddy doesn’t let em keep the golden state right? It doesn’t look that good to me
The first too correct but the Blackthorn is extremely far from underwhelming. If you manage to get the Thorncurse + Flat Tusk build rolling with menagerie that thing is basically giving you same effect as a golden flat tusk would. And that is just the base version, the golden one is just giving infinite stats to all your minions. And not even mentioning the fact just standard quilboar build does get quite a lot of value from blood gems.
Yeah I can appreciate that, but it’s literally just a fun silly mode. Not everything needs to be hyper competitive. Blizz’s mistake was attaching a rank to it, because people lose their minds over that stuff.
You make a solid point but people do enjoy winning and more fair challenges over losing to someone strong and/or lucky.
Man people take stuff too seriously. Like anyone raging about this being imbalanced or whatever else, who cares?
It’s literally a non ranked fun mode that provides no rewards.
There will be like a whole meta game on when and how long to play some of these because they are 'power with a price' like Omu's. Having no tribe means they aren't likely to get fast buffs.
powercreep arrived to BGs..., don´t get me wrong, I like these changes, new strategies and experience, but the game will be so freaking fast and highrolly as f-word...
I'm kind of worried about this too. It's like Darkmoon Prizes type of thing and that time period was highrolly as fuck.
No doubt without any nerfs, that may still be coming but who knows, this is about to get really silly.
Not to mention the extra decision making for mobile users when they barely had enough time to do anything as is.
Keep in mind, that this adds another way how to balance heroes and they can easily increase health to all heroes, or armor to some which doesn't perform that well. :)
I honestly wish they would've ditched Merc mode and invested more development into Battlegrounds. These changes are going to make it even more enjoyable to play.
The Kragg buddy looks awesome. He's one of my favorite heroes even though my win percentage with him isn't that high. Should open up some interesting strategies if you're not getting it too late in the game.
Battleground is getting more funnier than standard...
already was
