Hearthstone Mercenaries: Mysterious Stranger Appearance Rate Changes
Blizzard just nerfed the most reliable way to get Tasks for your Mercenaries, which was the easiest way to gain their most powerful Equipment and the Coins needed to upgrade them. Progress on these things will no doubt slow down considerably. This change should already be live.
Quote from BlizzardWe are adjusting the appearance rate of Mysterious Stangers to be based on the relative level of the strongest Mercenary in your party compared to the suggested level of the Bounty. This move is to encourage people towards more engaging gameplay instead of repeatedly taking on low-level Heroic Bounties with highly over-leveled Parties.
It was already bad before this change, which is why I completely stopped playing LOL
What a disaster.
Let's make the mode more fun/interactive? No
Let's make it less p2w so players can actually enjoy it without being stuck with playing the 3 basic heroes? No
Let's take away their only ability to advance through this mode effectively? Hell Yes!
Good job Blizzard, and fuck you. I'm not playing this mode at all anymore, let it rot, just like duels.
I suggest that you actually try it. Stranger is a very good rate from "tougher" bounties, which are themselves farmable with the three basic heroes. Now, if you want to grumble about coin rates for legendaries from normals, that's a different matter - HCs feel like a decent rate but normals... each of the three boxes on N is about 13% chance for the legendary, with~10-20 coins per. The rate feels like it shouldn't be halved on N, but it is.
I understand where they're coming from about not wanting to incentivize people to farm low-level stuff, but I agree that this doesn't actually fix the problem.
To all those disappointed by Mercenaries, try Darkest Dungeon. Pay once, tons of fun. (Be warned that there's permadeath for the characters, but since you didn't pay an arm and a leg to get or level them, and you can easily get more, it's okay, at least in my opinion.)
I also love how early blizzard is to post Tierlists and "Best performing heroes" for mercenarys. Almost like they wanna show you how bad your starting comp is and that you should really spend some money to get those "best pvp heroes".
I thought Constructed would milk players money, but this shit is worse in all forms.
Played it for a bit and actually enjoyed it, but as there is no way for me to get a reliable good build together without spending hundreds of dollars and my old comp just not performing anymore at 7,5k+ Rating i just quit it again.
They also promoted videos about how to best farm Air Elemental in their own client. It would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic.
Blizzard milking hearthstone to death, why the hell im not surprised
I don't believe I'm saying that but I'm on Blizzard side this time. At least now it will take players two weeks instead of two days to get bored with this game mode (and maybe even experiment a bit along the way while waiting for the right merc's task).
in the winter bounties ive been able to roll 1 and 2 fight paths to mysterious visitor
Well instead of grinding Heroic Serena, now we have to grind Heroic Xaravan. Oh well
Looking at the change in a vacuum it was the right move to nerf stranger appearance on low level bountys, however you cant do that. Im perfectly fine with the change if they implement something to compensate, like way higher rewards for completing tougher bounties, 1st time rewards for clearing heroic bounties and the opportunity to do something with unusable coins on maxed out mercs like trade them at a 5:1 rate for coins of higher rarity.
Today i opened a pack and got 250 rare coins for mercs i have allready maxed out, kinda ridiculous thinking about how some people spend money on that and basically trade 3€ vs a hot load of nothing.
Honestly it all depends, we have to see the numbers first. If mysterious stranger pops up more frequently the closer you are to the level then sure, I'd be all for it and not have to farm quillboars. However if its the opposite that's a pretty bad change ngl. Gotta see how reddit does the math before I can judge the change. Most likely its a nerf, but I'd rather see the math in action rather than jump on random bandwagons.
Imagine actually playing this garbage unfun mode
Worse nerf ever. When people asked for an alternative to grinding a level 8 bounty, they didn't ask you to just flat out nerf it and offer nothing else on the plate. This has zero impact on Paying players but it royally shafts F2P players.
this also has zero impact on PVE players but it shafts PVP players
It affects all players... you need to complete 7 tasks to get the last equip. You can grind the coins in every bounty. So the coin aspect is not a big deal.
As far as I`m confused with the change itself I`m far more enraged with the way they said about it. Even though the mercenary mode itself has a convenient mailbox to share kind of an important piece of information related to the change of the gameplay, they mostly use it for announcing new packs & offers in the shop, especially taking to account that any card change being it the cost or the effect is shown as soon as you enter hearthstone, not just the mode.
What is more, now, this news is actually available only for English speaking community, so missing the quest giver again and again really makes you suspect smth. and you start surfing the net. Good luck finding such news in your foreign segment, cause, you know, even big cybersport-oriented websites and stuff won`t be that quick to react to some minor changes in HS mode. I wonder how many people are still kept in the dark. I also wonder if they ever announce this in the game being afraid to scare sway newcomers for the merc. mode.
They would prefer no one know about this change and continue playing obliviously.
Simply disgusting. Nerfing rewards in a week. They want you to pay. Not paying will be punished.
They havent nerf rewards. The rewards are the same. With this change we need to push to get more rewards, like a guaranteed task at the END of a lvl 30 heroic run with the coins. They want us to run harder runs, well they need to make Them worth it.
