Hearthstone Mercenaries: Lunaloveee PvP Tier List - The Most OP Mercenary
At the end of the first week we have Lunaloveee's PvP Tier List, quite possibly the most OP Hearthstone Mercenary and some questions for you!
Lunaloveee PvP Tier List
We already brought you Thijs' Hearthstone Mercenaries Tier List last week, but Americas Hearthstone Grandmaster Lunaloveee came out with her best Hearthstone Mercenaries Tier List and it is markedly different, most likely shaped by a changed Meta that is slowly getting figured out and by her interactions with other top 50 players at above ~7500 rating in Americas.

The Most OP Mercenary?
The top end of Lunaloveee's Hearthstone Mercenaries Tier List seems to revolve around Mercenaries that either increase or decrease Speed. The concept of Speed Cheating, much like Mana Cheating in constructed, is very powerful because it lets you do things before your opponent has a chance to do things. And when your can act before your opponent does, his Mercs usually die. Which brings us to Cairne Bloodhoof.
Cairne's ability to speed everything up for your whole Party with his ability Endurance Aura {0} is incredibly strong, which lead Lunaloveee to comment that Cairne Bloodhoof was probably the most OP Hearthstone Mercenary. She also commented that his inclusion in basically every high level Party means it sort of turns into a coin-flip simulator with whoever gets their Endurance Aura to go off first, winning the game.
One Week In - Questions
At the end of the first week, we'd love to know your thoughts on Hearthstone Mercenaries, since the game mode was under fire in parts of the community, but seems to have had people play it a lot too once it was launched and people could play it for themselves.
Is it fun?
Pretty simple question, but sometimes simple questions have lengthy and complicated answers.
PvE or PvP?
We've found that there seems to be a divide in the Mercs community between players that play it for PvE and players that play it for PvP. This is new territory for Hearthstone since usually there's only 1 particular way to play an activity. What side are you on?
Love the Grind or Hate the Grind?
Hearthstone Mercenaries introduces the grind to the game, where you are expected to play certain Bounties a bunch of times to gather resources or to complete Tasks. Some people love to just spend an hour running the same Bounty a bunch of times and to see their work rewarded with real progress. That's not for everyone, as some people would prefer to just get the Mercs from the start and all done and just make the choices and do the Bounties as challenges. So, love the Grind or hate it?
Who starts your Party?
Everyone that plays Hearthstone Mercenaries has a favorite Mercenary. The one that you put in your Party first and then figure out the rest. So who starts your Party? Who's your favorite Mercenary so far?
Which Mercenary would you add to the game?
A lot of the Mercenaries in the game are known lore characters, and a bunch of them are the new Mercenaries we were introduced to this year as part of the Year of the Gryphon in Constructed. But, obviously more Mercenaries will be introduced, so who would you like them to add? It could be a lore figure, a minor NPC elevated to a major role, or just a set of abilities with a to-be-decided name. So who would you add?
So, after months of pre-order this and pre-order that, without giving me the slightest hint what this game is supposed to be, I played through the tutorial and opened my starter packs today. Impressions:
1. The game looks terrible, the animations are clunky. This is not even the quality of a mobile game, it feels like those throw-away games on social media (you know, where you don't even have to download anything because it's just so basic and simple). One of the main selling points of Gachas are the visuals, if nothing else. But hey maybe this isn't supposed to be a cashgrab gacha and the gameplay will make up for it. It's Blizzard after all, maybe they can still pull a rabbit out of their hat!
2. Except they don't. Extremely basic combat system, very little room for depth as far as I can tell. Maybe it will develop into something else later, but it doesn't look like it.
3. My starter packs contained only rares and one epic, and some coins (I have no idea what to do with them). I checked the tier lists available so far and noticed the pre-order legendaries being all included at the top - at which point I already lost all interest. The game mode doesn't seem to provide gold, so I would have to spend whatever I can gather in the main modes just to fish for this sad excuse of a gacha.
Overall it feels like they just want to milk what they can out of the remaining playerbase. Good for them if it works, good for anyone who actually has fun with this.
You seem like the type of player that wouldn’t care if this was the best game of all time. You are so butt hurt and have so much Blizzard hater blood coursing through your veins that you were just waiting for the release date to come so you could waltz in to the forums and Trash Talk this game mode at all costs.
Just stop playing the game already and go away, the game mode is fun and just fine. It can still be completely free to play (I haven’t spent a dime) so get out of here with that cash grab argument. Of course they are going to offer ways for you to spend money, they are in fact still a company that is for profit, not a charity. The graphics are just fine as well as the animations. As for your starter packs, you are either lying or have terrible luck. I got two legendary‘s and three epics. Sucks to suck. Git gud.
this does make me want to spend money though just to make up for stupid players like yourself leaving the game. That way blizzard makes just as much money, if not more, so they don’t really care about losing you. Now, I’m off to go have fun in what I consider to be still the best mobile game out. Deuces.
" blizzar hater blood coursing through veins"
Dude what are you even talking about. Are you in love with blizzard or something? What do you even defend here, why do you even take minutes of your life to defend a greedy as fuck company like that. You are not even bringing any counter-arguments here you are outright flaming him in some blind rage like he offended your mom or something. Did you lose your mind? He can spend money on what he wants, he can criticize what he wants and he won't stop playing just because you told him so. Jeez get a hold of yourselves and look in the mirror sometimes. It's okay if you are under 20 but otherwise, that behavior is disgusting.
In my opinion, this is a very bad tier list.
This "game" mode is so bad!!!!!
You are so right dude. This is such a thing of brainless grinding that even apes could be a star cook.
Not even unlocked PvP. PvP in gacha games is the cancer. forget about it.
PvE is pretty fun for the first runs.
Xyrella is OP for PvE, i don't know, how to play without her in lvl 30 lvls. Also, i m not playing HS since last exp (f*ck the quests) so, no gold. that's why i don t know about most of the mercs. Only free ones and Gul Dan and Tirion (Tirion good tho)
I don't even unlock pvp since it will 100% p2w fighting against full upgraded heroes.
same
Except that's not how matchmaking works. They released an official post about how you get matched against similarly upgraded heroes. Nice job displaying your ignorance though.
Xyrella not S Tier ... yea guess I should take advice from that "Pro" :D
Oh wow, the three heroes you could preorder are all S tier? Color me shocked.
PvP is so scuffed in mercs, only a very small selection of the mercs on offer are even remotely viable, and it seems to always come down to whoever uses ranged abilities faster usually wins.
No strategy, just nuke harder and faster, healing is pointless, and tanking does nothing.
Xyrella Tier C? WHAT?
those lists are always drunk...
The sole argument I'd make here is that Anacondra deserves A tier as she's easily a more synergistic healer than the other options in a Nature build. Being able to Nature combo Guff at will while still being able to boost Nature damage with Bru'kan has done some amazing stuff for me in both PvP and PvE, but mostly PvP.
I got fed up with Standard - so I played Duels.
I got bored with Duels - so I played Battlegrounds.
I played Battlegrounds to death - so I am playing Mercenaries (and enjoying it).
If you don't like one game mode - play another. It's simple.
oh, and it's all free. So maybe keep that in mind?
It's kinda weird ranking mercs on a one by one basis in a game mode that encourages you to put them on teams and force them to synergize in a variety of ways.
Having said that, this *is* a much better list than the last one I saw.
Play against 2/6 Boar in almost every dungeon in 2021, ye blizz good job your game is boring as f*luck
According to this tier I use 4 tier A characters (Ragnaros, Antonidas, Rexxar and King Mukla). Nice, funny how it's nearly the opposite of the other one.
I think this list is more accurate than the other one. I would rate Varden Dawngrasp higher than Cairne though in terms of utility. Varden has the flexibility of being able to use Flurry any turn it wishes and Ice Lance is devastating in PVP to lock out a slower attacker. Cairne is a really neat tool for a revenge snipe with Endurance Aura but I'm not sure he offers enough damage in a PVP encounter.
Also good to see Lich King on S-List, I've had a lot of success with him in PVP.
