Hearthstone Mercenaries Tier List - Best Party Compositions!
Looking for the best Mercenaries in Hearthstone? Look no further. Many of the top players in the world have been putting in hours in the new game mode and have had opinions on the best way to rank them. Thijs Molendijk, famous Dutch streamer, and (sadly) former Grandmaster, has made one such Tier list, with PvP in mind, which he posted to twitter.

Not only did Thijs post about the Mercenaries Tier list, he also posted about his personal journey on the PvP ladder, which brought him as high as Rank 23 on the Top 200 in the EU.
He showed off the Party composition he used to go 40-1 before running into a comp that wrecked him several times played by EducatedCollins. Thijs Party was as follows:
His tweet commented "Start comp Xyrella - Samuro - Garrosh. Guldan Flex and Cairne - Diablo as Combo tool."
Community Tournament
Thijs was not the only one to have success with this comp. In a community driven Hearthstone Mercenaries Tournament, quite possibly the first of it's kind, a player called Leaf won with a Party that was the same as Thijs' except for swapping a Varden Dawngrasp for Gul'dan. Below you will find a link to the line up of comps used in the Tournament, as well as a tweet with thanks to the organizers.

Rank 1 Americas
To finish things off, we have for you the Hearthstone Mercenaries list used by Americas Grandmaster Fr0zen, who went 41-0 in his games after ~6400 MMR rating to the no. 1 Rank in Americas with a whopping 7605 Rating. His comp looked like this:
In a follow up tweet he indicated that his starting trio was Thrall-Garrosh-Saurfang.
Conclusion
We hope you found this Hearthstone Mercenaries Tier list and the Party Comps useful, or at least entertaining. Let us know in the comments how you are faring in Mercenaries and what your favourite comp is so far!
Is there any way in game to see a mercenary's abilities before owning them
In game, no. Blizz did put out this handy guide though: https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/gallery/dz/DZTV63OQI11Q1633962629130.pdf
It has a picture of everything at max level for a particular Merc, with all currently available launch Mercs.
are there any best comps for Pve walkthrough? or is it always Velen+Anduin+Xyrella?
I use Bru'Kan + Lady Anacondra quite a bit, he buffs her serpent bite... it can get pretty silly damage wise with the right treasures, I've had her serpent bite do nearly 100 damage in a single round.
Yay for me! I got only Xyrella from S tier, but I got everyone but Illidan from D tier...
The pack system where a new skin is the same as a new merc is broken. In regular HS you can get the card you want with dust and don't need to get the whole collection to make a top tier deck. Here you get coins for random mercs, so if you want a specific legendary you need to buy packs of random stuff and you get it when you get it. Then when you finally get 500 coins of your dream legendary it's crap because you don't have any coins left to upgrade its skills and items.
You have no control over your collection, you cant disenchant stuff, you can only craft the things you get from the packs, you can only upgrade the things you randomly get from packs.
Coins should be neutral like dust!
I would'nt dust anything. i think is game mode is gonna have alot of balance. We can maybe experience more buffs and nerfs then we have been used to before.
Coins would have to be worth *a lot* less to be neutral like dust.
And once you have a merc, between tasks & bounties you can get coins for them fairly quickly. So that feeling of crafting a merc and then going "I have no coins to upgrade them!" is fairly brief.
Nice to know the mercs I play with are either in A or B tier. Good job me.
Cool to know that I picked an entirely B+ comp just off my own quick evaluations.
I do wonder how much tiers change if you consider synergies - you'd hope that they'd be factored in, but I'll say that Tirion + Velen is pretty amazing for double Blessing of Kings action.
Tier list is also for PvP, which is worth noting - in the PvE section Tirion is probably S rank just for being able to cause some maps to become auto-win (if he gets Bubble Hearth through an elite battle - 1 speed taunt and immunity, which basically shuts down any attacks and makes it so that the AI has to non-attack down the rest of the party).
Meta solved. No need to bother experimenting, you poor peons, the streamers and whales have done it all for you, and all in 48 hours. They’ve successfully ensured that f2p players will always queue into optimal comps they have no hope to beat.
They’ve pre-enjoyed the experience, so you don’t have to (nor can you.) No need to thank them. You’re welcome.
Who is downvoting this guy ? He's right. Fuck content creators and their meta, they are ruining the game for everyone else, because the sheeps will follow wherever they go.
Experimenting is an integral part of the game and they are taking it away from us, and websites like Hearthpwn are helping them, so fuck all of you.
Maybe he's getting paid to write stuff like this?
You never know...
plz..for the love of god, DONT PLAy this mode.
later they will add more mercenaries, maps, and stuff...and u will never end the grinding.
I stopped playing today.
I passed less time with my family by being on da damn phone.
bye bye really greedy gacha game.
Why can't people play what they enjoy?
When they add new stuff, it won't take long to get 100% completion on all of it. It's seriously easy to "complete" Mercenaries outside of PvP, other than collecting all the portraits.
And what are they doing with Hearthstone? Adding new cards, heroes portraits, maps... And the "meta" keep changes with new expansions...
Like - you got no point...
Just like Hearthstone and WoW, they keep making content. How horrible of them to keep adding more game for people to play. Could be worse. Could end up like Overwatch and Diablo where they stop making content and people still play it.
A whole bunch of mercenaries seems to be of extremely questionable usefulness, and seem to be designed to anti-synergize with others.
Blink Fox and Guff, for example, both have their main attack be only useful when combo'd, so if you don't have another unit with that specific damage type they are far weaker. But Blink Fox's combo attack is actually faster than Millhouse's main missile attack, so you can't use both and get the combo to activate. Some seem designed to only function at all with other mercs they are designed to synergize with - and that you probably don't own. So you need all three units of a combo - and they have to be leveled - and they have to be have abilities upgraded. It's a whole lot of investment just to even try out a new combo of units and often it's not worth it.
I've been using the Orc Trio in Garrosh Saurfang Rokara to clear most fights. Pick items that increase Horde or Orc stats and they spit out ridiculous damage.
Xyrella is also ridiculously good.
Milhouse's arcane explosion is speed 4. Blink fox's is speed 5. Tyrande's salvo is speed 5. Not hard to combo it.
Most mercs are fine combing with just one other mercenary. Like Tyrande + Millhouse + Blink Fox all out at the same time is kinda overkill.
Arcane Explosion is the suboptimal attack most of the time. You want to build spell damage.
