Balance Changes Coming Tomorrow - 8 Changes In Total!
Blizzard just announced 8 balance changes that will go live tomorrow. Let's take a look at what's going to get changed.
One change that you should know about:
- Fixed a bug where completing all Book of Heroes installments would not display the proper achievement or give the proper award. All players who have already completed all 10 Book of Heroes will automatically receive the proper award of a Golden Standard pack.

Dev Comments: After two weeks of monitoring the rapidly evolving United in Stormwind launch metagame, we’re making a few balance changes to slow down the speed of the game by a turn or two. Overall, this translates to two things: limiting the efficiency at which combo decks can assemble the pieces they need to win, and reducing the burst damage that board-based decks have access to from hand. We hope that these changes will give a bit more room for slower strategies to find success in this meta, and we’ll continue to keep an eye on the live game to see if any further changes are needed.

Arena Balance Update
We’ve updated the appearance rate of cards to ensure class balance remains close to the ideal 50% win-rate. Specifically, the win-rate of Druid, Warrior, and Demon Hunter should now be decreased. The win-rate of Mage, Priest, Rogue, and Shaman should now be increased. The win-rate of the other classes should be roughly the same as before.
Bug Fixes & Game Improvements
- Updated the Stealer of Souls animation to now only trigger if the card ends up in your hand (it does not trigger for cards that are Cast When Drawn, such as Soul Shards). The animation will also no longer trigger if the drawn card already costs Health instead of Mana (such as when you have two Stealer of Souls in play).
- Fixed card text errors for Psyfiend and Florist (no functional change to either).
- Fixed a bug where Prismatic Jewel Kit would trigger when effects returned a Divine Shield minion to the owner’s hand or moved a Divine Shield minion from the owner’s hand to the owner’s deck.
- Fixed a bug where Seek Guidance (the Priest questline) would sometimes count the original Cost of cards, instead of the Cost actually paid for the card.
- Fixed a bug where the Initiate Set version of Eye Beam did not properly display card art in the Collection Manager.
- Fixed a bug where Reborn Rites, The Lich King’s Battlegrounds hero power, caused players to disconnect from the game server.
- Added interactions between Pave the Way (part of the Paladin Questline) and Duels-specific hero powers.
- Fixed various bugs in Book of Heroes Gul’dan and Book of Heroes Illidan.
- Fixed a bug where Duels achievements were not tracking properly.
- Fixed a bug where Witchwood collection achievements triggered even though the requirements were not yet met.
- Fixed a bug where completing all Book of Heroes installments would not display the proper achievement or give the proper award. All players who have already completed all 10 Book of Heroes will automatically receive the proper award of a Golden Standard pack.
Where is ignite nerf? I cant even play a control deck because of the ignite.
They're not going to nerf Ignite.
So where's my Rise to the Occasion refund? Since the nerf pretty heavily affects it indirectly
I don't think Wild will change too much from this. Odd Paladin and Aggro Paladin definitely took a hit despite not being the best decks. I think pure Darkglare Warlock definitely won't hold up, but the Questline variant won't be affected too much. Mozaki Mage will be a bit slower, and Pirate Warrior is untouched.
Nice now the games will end on turn 7 instead of turn 6.
The quest themselves really should have been hit. And lord knows why Stealer of Souls wasnt touched. This card will always be a problem imo. I dunno, i still think warlock will dominate but i hope im wrong.
Because Stealer decks are terrible (slow and inconsistent), and their winrate is around 45% at this point. Nerfing Stealer would do literally nothing to the meta.
Seems like fine changes to me. Not too crazy, but targeting some of the things people were complaining about.
It will certainly not be enough, though. More salt to follow this reply.
Honestly I'm kinda dissapointed...? Battleground Battlemaster still will be OP, Palladin will still be huge problem. Flash Giant for 9 does'nt change too much. Ill'gynoth for 6 kills Quest Demon Hunter.
Battlemaster can't be used in Odd decks now, it's destroyed for Wild.
Point taken. I'm not playing wild, so I didn't think about it.
Conviction is worthless now. Should have been 2 attack, not 2 mana. It's not even more value than Blessing of Might now at rank 2. Card is dead.
Battlemaster nerf was deserved.
Incanter's Flow got what it deserved.
Is Kolkar in there so they can claim they did something about Hunter?
Shaman Elemental was clearly busted for its stats.
Correct way to nerf combo DH - fix doubling effects in Hearthstone so they don't stack. Incorrect way to nerf combo DH - ruin the legendary piece of the combo.
Darkglare long overdue.
I actually don't think Flesh Giant is very nerfed at all.
Warlock is not fixed. Especially in Wild. Fix the quest.
Oh great, they "fixed" the priest questline *rollseyes*
We get comments like this every time, and every time it turns out that slowing things by even 1 turn has very serious consequences in the meta.
Just relax and give it a week. If there's still a problem, Blizzard have proven they will go in and fix it a second time.
Don't know if it will be enough, but I hope it will shake things up a bit
That Il’gynoth sure took a hit
I was expecting some kind of change to Ignite and Stealer of Souls
The hit for mage and warlock seems pretty soft compared to that of the other classes sadly
Not sure if this was the way of fixing things, but definitely some of the most problematic we have (that aren't quests).
basically no changes
Changing mana to darkglare and flesh giant isn't solving the problem... There are multiple variations of questlock without even using darkglare so i think warlock, although tiny bit slower, will still dominate the meta.
