Balance Changes Coming Early Next Week
Alec Dawson (team 5's lead designer) just announced on Twitter that there will be no balance changes this week, however, we'll see some early next week.
What do you think will get nerfed? Tell us in the comment section.
Quote from Alec DawsonNo constructed balance changes this week, target is early next week. Meta has been evolving quite rapidly since United in Stormwind launched and we'll be finalizing decisions in a few days.
You’re mostly right and the downvotes prove your point. I don’t think they’re even supposed to design a well-balanced game, they’re supposed to sell a product. If it was perfectly balanced, there would be less discussion, less posts, less forums, less buzz, less Internet traffic regarding the game, etc.
I would definitely nerf some cards
Gadgetzan Auctioneer - honestly I would put it to Wild. Without it no Garrote Rogue, or crazy Quest Warlock. Also some Quest Mages use it to much.
Stealer of Souls
Battleground Battlemaster
There also should be some changes with some Quests, or at least reward mana cost.
I would like to see some nerfs in Hunter and Shaman cards, especially the aggro ones, but I don't think they will touch it.
Stealer of Souls should be a battlecry and should be "Your next card." Maybe "your next two cards" but even that might still be broken.
Then they wouldn't have had to ban it from Wild either. FIX YOUR CARDS instead of hiding the problem maybe??
Priest could use some love as the only class that can’t play the quest reward the turn it is earned. I wouldn’t even be opposed to jacking up the mana cost on the quest rewards all-around, even priest.
Warlock can complete the quest way too fast. They have minions that are too difficult to remove with the spells available, and I can’t even play minions to account for this because they will always have something to both kill my minions and progress quest. If I “do nothing” then they can just progress quest by tapping into every other card that will also progress the quest.
They should just nerf the quest reward mana costs across the board, and/or make it so that you need to take damage from card EFFECT and not card or hero power COSTS.
I think Priest's quest is ok. The problem is, this quest is the only Control deck quest, and right now control decks have pretty big problem with all those otk's and other combo decks. If they will nerf cards, like auctioneer, or stealer, they will kill Garrote Rogue, or slow down Quest Warlock, Priest's quest will be playable and actually pretty scary as a Control deck with "Kill Opponent" card as a reward in your deck.
The new quest are supper agro and good to rank up for new player but they need to think about some otk like the shaman quest 🙏🙏🙄getting hit buy 44 in one round 😭😭😭😭
" there won't be changes for the next few days and we can't just play"
fixed
Kripp said it best. Some of these new quests are way too easy to achieve and way too predictable. It's simply a race to finish them first and hit the OTK GG.
I'd argue it's less the quest is easy to complete and more so they can play the minion so early. Does it matter if Mage completes step 1 and draws a spell? Not really. Does it matter that they discover a spell after completing the next step? Nope. Suddenly having +3 Spell damage globally on turn 5? Possibly a problem there. Instead of raising the cost of some of the steps, raise the cost of the minion.
im playing quest mage over 5 hours a day and its been literally impossible to play the minion on turn 5,almost all the times i played it on turn 6 or 7, im not disagree with changing the cost cause then we cant put the minion on the ground and deal so much dmg with cheap spells on the same turn
Who? A guy who plays Battlegrounds?
I honestly dont think simple nerfing cards will "fix the meta", for that broad gameplay changes need to happen, like
1. Cost reduction unable to reduce cards below 0 mana
2. Health cost not being counted as damage (as in MTG, life sacrife is something different)
3. Not really a gameplay change, but its easier to list it here - quest reward cost increased from 5 mana to 6/7/8 for all or individual quests
4. Also not a gameplay change, but Remove Gadgetzan Auctioneer from standard
However, some cards that i expect to be hit:
Battleground Battlemaster cost increase to 6 mana
Granite Forgeborn stat change to 3/4
Lilypad Lurker buff reverted
Doomhammer cost increase to 6 mana or stat change to 2/6
Wailing Vapor stat change to 1/2
Conviction (Rank 1) cost increase to 2 mana
Trampling Rhino cost increase to 6 mana or stat change to 5/4 or 4/4
Piercing Shot unable to target own minions
Flesh Giant cost increase to 9 or 10 mana
Voidtouched Attendant stat change to 1/2
Cards that are likely to be hit if we dont see any "global" changes listed above:
Incanter's Flow cost increase to 3 mana or "cant reduce below 1" added
Darkglare cost increase to 3 mana
Stealer of Souls cost increase to 5 or 6 mana
Now dont get me wrong i am not saying combo mage/warlock is unbeatable or is in dire need of a nerf or anything, but right now an entire archetype (control) pretty much vanished from sight, and for it to find its way back into the meta combo decks need to be nerfed, in return aggro decks which are allready farming combo decks also need a hit else combo will just be unplayable.
I also just felt like listing a few cards and those were the main culprits that came to my mind other cards like ignite, or some of the DH draw might also need changes.
Another note, i dont expect all shaman cards will be hit at once, else we will probably be back to pre wailing caverns shaman.
Edit: How do you link a ranked spell correctly?
Agree with most of them except "Piercing Shot unable to target own minions" is not a good idea. Hunter would then have
two useless cards against all no minion decks like Quest line Mage. Balance not kill the card is the goal.
Edit: My brain kinda phased out when i first responded to this.
When playing against Hunter you often end up in a position where you actively kill of your own minions to not die to Piercing Shot or Trampling Rhino which in my opinion is not not a particularly appealing approach, but it does offer counterplay. However hunters just summoning a 1/1 Wolpertinger to hit you for 5 either way is even less engaging.
I do agree though, Piercing Shot would pretty much end up being a dead card vs quest mage and the uninteractive versions of quest warlock.
Good points there! Also for the ranked spells, you put (Rank 1) in there when linking the card, example being (I think) ([card]Fury (Rank 1)[/card)].
I see that you play either quest mage or otk DH
I play Quest Zoo Warlock, Quest Control Warrior and Quest Priest.
I just hope they do something to OTK decks where you don't even mind your opponent, like I'lgynoth OTK Demon Hunter. They are so unappealing to play against.
"We didn't test.
Again."
Yah as usual they doN’t playtest shit
