United in Stormwind Launch Day - Everything You Need To Know!
Hearthstone's newest expansion United in Stormwind launches today, August 3rd. We brought all the information and useful links together in this news post for you.
- The United in Stormwind Expansion is LIVE!
- Yet another 135 new cards have been added to the game.
- Another 35 cards will follow in a Mini-Set midway through the expansion. There's no official details revealed yet!
- You can view all the new cards in our United in Stormwind Card List.
- PvE content for the United in Stormwind expansion will be a continuation of the Book of Mercenaries storylines.
Included for free in the Expansion
- All players logging in will get the United in Stormwind Legendary card Flightmaster Dungar for free!
- All players opening up the first Reward in the new Free Reward Track will get a Legendary Card for free, Lady Prestor!
- All players will have access to the free Core set, a replacement for the Classic and Basic set, read all about it here.
- There has been no mention so far of a chain of Event Quests to celebrate the release, like there often was.
We're investigating reports that Flightmaster Dungar doesn't count toward the Stormwind Legendary Collector achievement. Working on it!

New Mechanics
- New Mechanic: Questlines - Cards that begin in your hand and have three steps of requirements and rewards, finishing with an upgraded Legendary mercenary minion!
- Mounts - Buff cards that give the target a deathrattle that will summon a Mount Minion, inspired by the original Mount spell.
- New Keyword: Tradeable - Special cards that can be reshuffled into your deck and replaced with a drawn card for 1-mana.
- Profession Tools - Weapons with special effects instead of attack values. Gathering the crafting requirements gets you an awesome effect!
Other Mechanics
Some mechanics that were seen in previous card sets were brought back on new cards, as well as some truly new mechanics were added:
- Interaction with the number of cards drawn that turn.
- Cards that shuffle minions into the deck that cast when Drawn.
- Tokens that go to your hand if they cannot fit the battlefield.
- A spell that gets shuffled back into your deck after use, and gets stronger.
- Handbuffing is back for Paladin.
- A minion that increases damage taken by 1 from all sources, for BOTH players.
- Start your game as a different class, until you play your first Rogue card!
- Handsize interactions for Warlock.
- Force your opponent's minions to attack a chosen minion on the Player's side.

Mercenaries
10 Legendary Questlines each representing a different class. The mercenaries stories will continue in United in Stormwind, as well as hopefully later in the new Game mode, Mercenaries.

We created a special Decks post yesterday, with a lot of new archetypes and a lot of new deck ideas. You can find the links to that Decks post below.
Alternatively, create your own deck with the Deckbuilder, add a good guide on how to pilot the deck and help create the post-launch meta!

Had to create an account to post this. I have been hanging out in the shadows of the community for this site for a while now, without ever commenting. I am a strictly free to play, from way back since Naxxramas. Had the best pack opening ever today. 4 packs from recent tavern brawls/fire festival, plus 50 packs purchased with gold. Opened Cornelius Roame in my first ten packs, then went on a streak. In the next 15 packs, I opened Auctioneer Jaxon and the jewel of the packs, Golden Command the Elements!!! At that point I was more than satisfied, but to my incredible surprise, Blizzard was not done! I got both Bolner Hammerbeak and The Rat King before all was said and done.
TLDR; had an amazing opening with 5 legendaries, with 1 golden, in 54 packs. Just had to share.
In other news, the shaman quest feels incredible so far, almost too easy to complete. Haven't run into quest hunters yet, but against shadow priest and paladin, you just have what feels like unlimited answers, with tons of reach. Looking forward to seeing how it performs the whole expansion.

Huh... I was confused opening up the game. No "Welcome to Stormwind" screen. Like... I thought the expansion was to be released today. Close out, come here, and it says its released? Open the game again, nothing. Go to the shop, I can buy packs.... Weirdest release day ever.
Hearthstone always seems to have this problem. Mid to Late year releases are becoming harder and harder to track when they launch. This one being the hardest. This site can literally tell you the date and time, and still not sure if the game is launching a set.

i have alot of class packs,is better open the new ones first or the class packs? i have the full collection so will be only UIS cards inside the class packs
I am opening my class packs first. That way, the no-duplicate rule will shift all of the cards from normal packs into other classes once a class is complete.
If you do it the other way around, you could have all of the cards for a given class before you open that class's class pack.
Here’s a pack-opening strategy I discovered last expansion. If you don’t care about Goldens as much as dust, try this; If you’re buying a ton of packs (like more than 50), stop at 50 and disenchant all of your Pack Filler Golden commons and rares (cards that have no chance of seeing a nerf). Then continue opening, and the duplicate protection will fill up those empty slots fairly quickly. It’s just a simple way to pick up some extra dust if that Golden Mailbox Dancer isn’t doing it for ya.
oh I think I get it.. you are saying that if we DE the golden cards (commons and rares in this situation), they do not contribute towards the "obtained" mark of the regular non-golden cards. Thus, we get re-get them from packs, is that right?
(i.e. I have 1 normal and 1 golden copy of a common card, if I DE the golden copy, I would be guaranteed to get that missing common from the next pack?)
Duplicate protection doesn't work like that. Once you own a card, you own it forever. Even if you disenchant it, you aren't guaranteed to open it again. You can begin to open it again once you own all cards of the same rarity and it's a random chance at that point. You may get a card you already have 10 of before you reopen that golden common you disenchanted and have none of now.

How will this be any better than simply opening all our packs, then disenchanting those golden commons and rares anyway?
That was a viable strategy a long time ago, but they changed the way duplicate protection works.
It doesn't really matter, though. if you open enough packs, you'll get enough normal copies that you'll be able to disenchant all of your golden commons and rares. Eventually. It's best to take the long view with these things.
That is something I did not know. I suppose it makes sense so you can’t load up on dust by spam-opening nerfed cards.
