Oh god .. again this garbage no ...
I am fed up with all this random bullshit... they have turned my favourite fantasy archetype in a mere casino (in case the game itself wasn't casino enough yet)
In other words, they take away Frost Nova and Blizzard to put this? Really? Remove this shit and return Frost Nova!
This lack of imagination is worrying... they just repeat the same thing again and again but in different shapes... How many cheap freezing spells do we already have?
You're obviously bad at the game. This card is not gonna see any play. It's so so bad. Actually useless card. The card is bad by itself and the RNG part is just awfull. You can't even freeze face with it. Actual garbage.
I hate this card already. People complain about the randomness, but some archetypes usually only have 2-3 big threats on board and then this is a zero mana board freeze.
In the lategame. Early game against aggro it's really weak.
And I absolutely like that about the leveling spells. They are very powerful in slower matchups but don't shut down faster decks if played early.
A card shouldn't be good against anything, right? Maybe this is not an anti-aggro card. But it might punish midrange severely.
Is this what the people who are still playing this are like??? Are you sincerely complaining that this card is overpowered because it's good against midrange decks??? It's a control card. Control needs more than just anti-aggro. It needs tools to stall midrange and value decks into the late game where it can win. Jesus christ, who are you???
Where exactly did I say that it's overpowered? I said I hate it. You need to read more carefully. I'm fully able to distinguish between the power level of a card and whether or not I like it.
People were saying this is garbage, so I offered a perspective that it has its place and can be really annoying to certain opponents. What's wrong with that?
By the way, adding triple question marks to each of your sentences doesn't give your more rhetorical gravitas.
This feels really good to be honest!
OP AF
Why Blizzard why?
You just did the right move and got rid of most aoe freeze effects and now you bring this shit in :(
Remove the old broken AOE freeze one has, release an even better one that people has to craft/purchase, profit
...its a rare.
This is the right direction for freeze, since it's AOE freeze with counterplay. This is thwarted by going wide. Cone of Cold is thwarted by going wide, but also by positioning. Every other freeze is single-target.
The problem wasn't AOE freeze per-se, but easy and guaranteed AOE without counterplay, like Frost Nova and Blizzard, where the mages opponent has effectively zero things they can do to get around it. If you can't see a meaningful difference, well, that's on you, buddy.
Yeah, the great and fun counterplay of randomness and the problem of aoe freeze was its existence in a class whose only pushed theme each expansion is random spell generation.
Just go wide... What a bullshit argument. There are quite a number of decks that cannot get 4+ minions on the board in which case this is a 0 mana nova and because it is 0 mana it is ridiculously easy to play removal alongside it to guarantee freezes. Now add all that to the fact that multitarget freezes are uninteractive and unfun af. It might not break the format nor be particularly good but the mere existence of the card means that Blizzard is willing to print more aoe freezes going forward which is a shame.
I mean one thing about Frost Nova was it could lock down your whole board and keep you from playing more minions because your board was full. This is strong, but... only at 10 mana. By which point, sure, like Frost Nova; Flurry can be a game winning card, but that's at 10 mana.
This isn't anywhere near as powerful or impactful as Frost Nova. And requires the player using it to actually think through WHEN they play it (the "randomness"), and requires some set up a lot of the time.
I think they COULD have kept Blizzard, and maybe increased the cost and damage (like 8 mana, deal 3 damage, freeze the board) but both as a mage player and as someone who plays against mage I'm pretty happy with the direction they're taking mage's freeze effects in.
This card has a TON of potential.

Guys, are you reading the same card?? This is 0 mana card, it acts as board freeze without loosing tempo. Mage has very good draw options, so its extremely good in control/combo mage. Also, auctioneer is still a standard card. This card is 4.5 /5.
I think you are overestimating it.
Gadgetzan Auctioneer hasn't been a viable draw engine for mage in ages and this spell only freezes at most 3 random minions. And that's by turn 10, most of the time, it will most likely only be played for 1 or 2 random frozen minions. Furthermore, Doomsayer isn't in the core set, so there is no real follow up for freezing the ennemy board like it used to in classic control mage. There seem to be a freeze sub-theme in Mage right now so it's possible they will reveal more freeze synergy cards but for now I think this card is both too slow (because it's only "good" from turn 5 onward) and too unreliable to be of any use. By turn 10, I'd much rather play the new Cone of Cold to guarantee hits on targets I actually want to freeze rather than having RNG decide.
I think that is essentially the design flaw of all these ranking spells : they are mediocre at low mana and at high mana, the fact that they are cheap for their effect is much less relevant. You talk about tempo but it's pretty much irrelevant by turn 10+ (if the game lasts that long!) Honestly I'd take good and reliable Blizzard over this card any day of the week if it was in the core set despite the fact that it costs 6 more mana.
If you came to turn 10 (and even earlier), it is rarely to see your opponent play more then 3 minions a turn, so this spell will freeze the whole board. The advantage of this spell, prior to cone of cold, is that you can fully play your mana afterwards, doing stuff you intended to do. It also can be used to cycle in combo decks that need to find specific cards fast. With new 10 mana mage finisher, I am not surprised this card will be included x2 in that "hero power" mage deck.
