Leaving Dream aside (it certainly needed some effect nerf, jury is out on whether it needed this big a nerf), saying Ysera the Dreamer is 10-mana Sap + Body + Value for Next Turn misses one thing--not a huge thing, but something which could realistically matter. While I know that he who will pun will pick a pocket... I think folks are sleeping on Nightmare as an instant effect.
Nightmare is still free, still playable on the same turn as Ysera. Got a minion on board? Ysera then Dream something and Nightmare your token to trade up against something else. Or use Nightmare on an opponent's minion if you can eat the damage.
Ysera when equal on board or slightly ahead seems even more crushing. With two instant effects, Ysera is less of a tempo loss than before. Between Dream and Nightmare, you can deal with two of an opponent's minions, plus have a board clear and reload still in hand. I know midrange is dead, but while Old Ysera was always a heavy-control card, New Ysera the Dreamer could be a really potent and interesting top-end to a deck that played more to board. Is that maybe win-more? Maybe, but turning a small advantage into a won game is also good.
You should be on the design team.
Really? Old Ysera has not been a good card for years, and the nerfs will make her even more useless.
Yeah, original Ysera isn't going to get into decks going forward. But the kinds of decks that used to play her when she was playable were the very heavy control ones, not something more midrange looking for a versatile top-end tool.
I don't have much hope for midrange being a thing (decks are too focused, power creep has been too high), but Ysera the Dreamer seems like a semi-plausible tool in a way that original Ysera never could have been. The instant effect of Dream + Nightmare seems like something that could be used in a bunch of different ways. Not the biggest effect at that mana level, but YTD is kind of a does-everything Swiss army knife--lots of options but not huge power.
We agree there! If there are some nerfs coming up, cubelock and even shaman have a chance to bounce back as mid-range decks.
Dr. Boom, Rag and TLK are the typical mid-range top minions, but high-impact cards like Gul'dan hero and N'Zoth have also found their way in slightly heavier versions. The problem lately has been that control and combo decks outpace mid-range, and aggro decks have gotten more tools
