Developer Interview - Battlegrounds, No 10 Gold For 3 Wins, Next Patch & More
Hearthstone's famous game developer Dean "Iksar" Ayala had an interview yesterday with a Chinese website called iyingdi.
In their interview, they were discussing some national questions, how they should improve their communication with the rest of the non-English speaking community, some Battlegrounds questions, etc.
These are probably the more important parts of the interview:
Battlegrounds
- Junkbot will be moving to tier 4.
- Khadgar & Brann Bronzebeard will be changed to give you only one triple (at first, all tokens will be summoned, then you'll get the triple).
- The next Battlegrounds related patch should be in 1 or 1,5 weeks.
- They have multiple solutions for the reconnecting issue, but because they would have to change the whole system for Battlegrounds only (since Battlegrounds run on the same system as other parts of Hearthstone), It's really hard for them to resolve this issue.
- When someone reconnects, they think that you should be able to see the rest of the animations, which would prevent this whole reconnecting issue, but this solution turned out to be very hard to implement.
- They'll make a few adjustments to the progression system for battlegrounds - mainly to the experience gain throughout the game.
- They don't want to make significant changes to the core of Battlegrounds gameplay in order to maintain the accessibility for returning players.
- Darkmoon Prizes were well received, but the freshness has disappeared.
- They want to update Battlegrounds more frequently in the future.
- They're developing new races with new minions entering and leaving the card pool.
- We'll learn more about Battlegrounds updates soon (probably on Blizzconline).
Misc
- They don't plan on adding back the 10 gold bonus for 3 wins.
Communication
- Iksar wants to have a similar AMA as he's currently doing but for China-only.
China-region
- Bot problem is more serious in China than in any other region.
Iksar
- He learned how to wish a happy Chinese New Year in the Chinese language.

PS: Special thanks to ZelKnow once again for bringing this up to our attention + translating some important parts to English.
And why it's impossible if I play that good? I win most of my games like this untill reach legend, then, the games change more or less to 7min win-concede. U just have to be good and know when u going to lose or win. I just concede in the first 4 turns if many things get wrong, which doesn't last even 2minutes of game if both players play right and fast. Now everyone is just roping and bad players are rewarded for that, so, yes, this new system is worse.
Millennial system where doesn't matter if u win or lose, everyone get something, just plain bullshit, not a single merit anymore.
Don't try to put maths on that shit...between 3h/3:30h of game many players already got their 100g, it's just that this game doesn't have many good players and in the world there are few people smart so this is the proportion if want to add in ur bullshit math - Few% of Good players = Few% of good, fast and optimized games.
The bad players are in high percentages divided by subgroups known as "Ranks", so, many % of these player are plain bad and play like 10-20minutes or more games between impossible wins, stall archetypes and horrible infinite value decks. Then they come here and say : GAME ISN'T GOOD , I'M SHIT, I'M LOSING TO AGGRO, MIMIMIMI...I PLAY 30MINUTES WITH HORRIBLE MEME NON INTELLIGENT DECKS AND LOSE, WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME? MIMIMIMI T-T
So, don't be that surprised little dude, only a few % of the world is a winner, most part still struggle to get out of the mud and become a winner. This is just a reality of the world, don't be upset by this, instead, be better.
That's okay, let them do that, they'll never get better at placement and counterplay, and will fall to the low ranks.
Well, It was good while it lasted boys, hope ya'll got to 350 cuz it's probably the last time you'll ever be able to get it without botting.
They're paying for their short sighted choice to jury rig the Hearthstone engine to create battlegrounds, instead of developing one that isn't fundamentally flawed. Variable turn timers should never have been possible. Other autochess games knew better.
i would make it that sometimes quest can give additional gold. or maybe if you play every day you get some gold bonus.
since the new system im stuck with 40 gold and i dont want to play arena to get even.
Sounds like a personal problem, I have every card from the set and am sitting on 3k gold after buying the mini set with gold
you´re lucky I have 95 Gold left, its so fucking annoying seeing that its 5 gold away from being useful. Spent my Tavern ticket that you get from the Season BattlePass progression but of course I only got dust and I don´t want to pay 150 to maybe get 15 gold and break even though then I´m at 60 because it costs 150 for a fucking Arena Game
Animations should be seen? Animations should be removed, or the timer should be fixed. Turn is e.g. 90s, why do some ppl get 60 and others 30, because
1- at least one player is using the taunt build they Just pushed into existence?
2 - the tripling up animations, reborns, and among others - elistra and poison, take time from apm.
3 - hysteria / tiller, nozdormu, etc. - fix the damn timers, 7 years and that's the main complain!
Thanks for the Core revamp, but it's def time to revamp animations as well.
Of course. Can't have players actually earn gold now and then. That wouldn't be any good...
You get 7 normal quests and 3 weekly quests. That's 14,500 XP per week. For every 1500 XP, you get 50 Gold. That means a total of almost 500 Gold per week. That's more than I got with the old quest system. Less transparent, yes. Less Gold, no.
it's not, do ur math right...7 days x 100g daily games = 700g minimum plus Gold from quests which the lowest one being 50g/60g then multiply for 7 again =350/420g giving an average ammount of 1000g+ each week....so, no, the new system doesn't reward u right, u just didn't realized yet
Well you're missing the point here. Apart from the legendaries, packs and other rewards along the track, you have the oportunity to get 14,500 XP per week from quests alone, as stated by DysprosiumDy. Also, you just have to login 3 times per week to complete all quests. On top of that, you can get 50 gold for about every 4 hours of gameplay (even less for constructed), that's a daily quest in the old system and a big daily in this current system.
Yes you could win 100g daily before, but that means 30 WINS. Assuming you play a face deck, average win would take 6~7 minutes. That's 6 to 7 hours every day for 30 wins. If you play this much in the current system, whether you're lucky to win or not, you can get 100g every day aswell.
This is not me talking what you might call bs, this are actual collected and analyzed data that you can easily find on reddit.
So the point is: players can get more gold per week and is also easier to get it.
Data gathered by chinese analysts? No, thanks.
Then. Use. The. Link.
Hearthstone Mathematics did videos comparing the old system and every version of the pass system.
Unbiased. And they don't deter from calling bad stuff out too.
Now, tell me why dedicated mathematicians specialised on HS are wrong, and you are right.
This is what they want you to believe rsrs u will never reach 350 so this math is just wrong.
Reaching 350 is not relevant here. And they didn't calculate based on "reaching level 350" at all.
They used "played hours/day+quests", during the lifetime of a pass (120 days).
Did you even watch it?
Is that your base of argueing?
"I can't reach the max of the bonus levels on the pass, so I have less gold now than in the old system"?
Dude are you in 3rd grade?
I can literally look at how much gold I've made and see the improvement. I have played since beta and have never had more than 2000 gold at the end of an xpac. I currently am sitting at 3k and I've missed at least 4 weekly quests due to laziness, AND I just bought the mini set with gold.
The new system gives way more gold than the old system did. The only people who were making 100g/day off wins were streamers and pros. I made 20-30g/day. And according to the Galaxy Play app on my phone (which tracks about 80k players, which is more than enough sample size to be statistically relevant), the average play time per day is ~1 hr.
According to HSReplay, aggro decks get about a 5 minute match on average, and the highest winrate is about 62%. Counting loading times, that's 11 matches an hour, with 6-7 wins, for a whole 20g/day, or ~160g per week. That means an average of ~550g per week under the old system, not your ridiculous 1k number.
That is just plain wrong. I already have more gold this expansion than I did last expansion and that's with a month still left to go! Even the original Battlepass system that there were riots about was, in hindsight, significantly better for players than the old system.
You are just plain wrong.
He isn't though. Unless you exclusively netdecked the fastest aggro deck you can find, the new system reaps same-more gold for you.
