Curious New Bundle on Store - Dynamic Bundle Offer, Different For Everyone
Blizzard did something curious today, by putting up a new Bundle on the ingame and online store. That's not that unusual of course, but for the first time it seems people are not getting the same bundle offered. Some people are getting a 35 pack Bundle with 2 Legendaries from Madness at the Darkmoon Faire for 30 dollars or euros, some people are getting a Bundle with only 20 packs and 2 Legendaries for 20 dollars or euros. There's also reports about people getting 25 packs and only 1 legendary and even people getting a Bundle for Wild packs!
Blizzard's only reaction to this so far has been a Reddit comment:
Quote from BlizzardHi there! We’re testing some new types of offers in our shop, which will cause some users to see different offers. This is intended! Be sure to check the in-game shop and the web shop to see any offers available to you.
What this means for the future of Bundles and the equality in offers remains to be seen, but for now it will at least be interesting to know which offer people got, so, if you can and want, let us know in the comments!
While I dont agree with the wording, the point is a good one. If Blizzard is truly trying to gauge what people will want to buy as a sweet spot for the future, they should have offered all the various bundles to everyone equally and see what is popular. Price discrimination, as has been suggested already or simply pure randomness, doesnt make much sense because it's a crap shoot if people will buy the 1 option presented to them. This is just a lousy way of Blizzard "testing" the waters with different bundles.
On the other hand, if they gave people more than just the 1 bundle option, I could see people buying them all since guaranteeing a legendary every 10 packs, 2 every 20, 2 every 35, etc is much sweeter than 2 in the largest pre-order bundle. Then the buying behavior becomes "Oh I'll just wait 2 months to get the variety bundles". If this is the case, they need to work on their UI for bundle purchasing in the shop if they want to put a limit.
Edit: Interesting post on Reddit about simply being a random bundle delivery: REDDIT
Didn't read loool
I am a mostly free to play player. I have not too often spent money on the game. I bought the EVIL solo adventure to get golden Zayle, Druid tree hero bundle, the Tavern Pass, and the darkmoon races bundle. Never bought a pre-order bundle.
I was offered the 2 legendaries and 20 pack bundle. I might have went for it, if I didn't just buy the Darkmoon Races one, I don't want to put money into the game too often. The Races was a pretty easy choice for me though.
Somebody have to pointed out about the price discrimination.. that's can't be a good direction however you see it..
*and I have been defending blizzard decision for like forever. But this can't be good direction.
I have a background in competition enforcement and anti-trust, and I would have serious questions about the legality of price discrimination among customers based on revealed preferences...
How do you feel about offering different bundles based on preferred class? As in, let’s say a $10 bundle with 10 packs and one guaranteed Rogue Legendary for a Rogue main, Warrior legendary for Warrior mains, etc.
I got the 35 packs and 2 legends but I am one of the customers they like that spends around 100$ each x-pack I work full time so it is just the cost of having fun like MTG
15$ 20 packs 2 legs (in Russia) . There is no money for this, and I do not want to spend money, to be honest.
Does anybody know if the legendaries are only from Darkmoon Faire or are they legendaries from standard? Asking for a friend...
Got 20 packs + 2 legendaries - all were only from Darkmoon Faire
Blizzard is never getting any money from me no matter what shady practice their marketing team pulls out of Devil's bible of micro-transactions.
Similar for me 35+2 Darkoom packs and I have already all the Darkmoon cards...:) I was surprised by this pack when I logged on today and just came here what this is all about.
Its useless to know what you got as an offer without knowing if you are a whale, a 100% f2pler, someone with a small lib or a bug lib. a roper, an alt-f4 ragequitter, a streamer, a creator, someone who plays binge or just quests, someone who even plays after he gets obviously raped by the matchmaker or someone who stops playing for weeks after the rape, etc...
who hurt you?
2 legendary bundle for me, 2 legendaries, plus a gold legendary and 2 more legendaries in the packs. Not bad at all...!
I got a Bundle with 10 Packs and 1 Legendary for 10€
The intention is to trigger your fear of missing out. The only way to know what offer is in your store specifically is to go into your own store. It's to build that habit of checking.
They are trying to go as far as they could toward gambling...
With all the rng hapoend after action, loot boxes in form oft bundles.
Triggerin the behaviors oft addiction: i got unlucky this time - next time i will geht the gold one.
Makes bad emoticons, luckely you can spend money to have a chance to get imedtly good once.
In my country gambling in the Internet is illigal. But i know its one oft the best ways to make money. For me its a new milestone in Blizzard greed. That dont care in the Emoticons oft people.
Be ready to get downvoted for telling the truth in this fanboy website
Yeah, thats the model that pays the most, just look at that EA console games like nfl or fifa (online versions) that require you to spend enormous amounts of money on boxes or packs (w/e is called), so you can actually play or compete. On top of everything blizzard is chinese owned company now (i think EA will be also chinese owned soon cause i read somewhere that tencent wants to buy it).
