"There Are Big Changes Coming To Hearthstone In 2021" - Alec Dawson
Senior Game Designer Alec Dawson has shared some information about the upcoming Hearthstone year & more!
Also sorry this didn't get into the notes but: Yes Edwin will still rotate later this year and yes we will be reverting the nerf (along with others) at that time.

Want to take a second to clarify our plan for Edwin VanCleef. There are big changes coming to Hearthstone in 2021. We aren’t quite ready to share the full details, but they will be positive changes for both gameplay and the ease of getting into the game with a limited collection.

As one small part of this, Edwin’s time in Standard will come to a close. However, Hall of Fame as it has existed will be no more. This means there is no additional benefit to crafting or hoarding extra Edwins today.

In the coming months, we’ll be sharing some more details about what the changes are and why you should be hyped for them no matter what type of player you are.

We'll be looking at Wild more frequently throughout the year, setting some things up to help us do that better.

Any card release has the chance to shift Wild to some degree, the upcoming mini-set being no different. There's some good stuff!
We talked about Broomstick for quite a bit, want to see how these changes and upcoming new cards shift things first.

It’s one of the most important things for us and weighs heavily into any balance decisions we make. We’ve gotten a lot of feedback about Evolve, will approach it differently in the future. Less of a focus on cost reduction with cards like Mogu.

Stickyfinger certainly did its job but it does so in a swingy way (heightened by the weapon it was stealing as well). Tech cards shouldn’t be seen as a must but rather an option for you to include in certain matchups. The prevalence of Stickyfinger was too high for our liking.

Playing a Game you hate so much cause of the constant failings, yet you keep playing it and criticizing it over and over.
exactly
"but they will be positive changes for both gameplay and the ease of getting into the game with a limited collection"
HA HA HA HA XD good one
I have a feeling that they are removing Hall of Fame because the system provides players with lots of dust and they don't like that.
It seems like they'll HoF so many cards now that the old system would actually hit the economy. obviously one free legendary ain't a big deal, which has kept the old system fair and overall insignificant.
I'm not hyped, I'm worried. Hype requires trust, and mine is lost. No more hype for you.
I know it will seem childish to some, but I can't pretend to be excited. I'm not a big fan of the saying "actions speak louder than words", but in case of Team 5, words have lost their meaning to me. I will decide for myself if any changes are "positive" after they got fully implemented, and not a second sooner.
So, the nerf is temporary, and Edwin gets rotated anyway, but there'll be no set anymore that it gets moved to, keeping/crafting the card also has no benefit, and for some reason, they nerf it temporarily, instead of rotating it now.
My prediction:
With the next expansion, Classic will rotate entirely and fused with Hall of Fame, but you'll get 0 dust for any of the cards. And since the change is meant to improve game accessability, my guess is that Basic will be reworked/expanded, and any additions to it will be free for everyone. Also, Tavern Brawls will reward packs from the latest expansion moving forward.
They say big changes....last big change was a complete fail!nobody is hopefull
The game needs a lot of changes like less RNG, more dust and gold, more balanced cards, more and quickly balance changes, a total rework of the classic and basic set... and a lot more (new mechanics, interactions in your opponent turns..., less face damage, less combo cards)
Sad, that we wont get dust after rottion for hall of famme, but looking foward to the changes, i hope they are indeed positive, hearthstone comunity needs some fresh air after a 2020 a bit complicated
Finally a positive post.
"Big changes" were complete let downs lately... for the past few years...
Yeah, specially with last meta expansion, one of the best metas in the whole game’s history, and with previous year which had excelent metas and expansions. Such a dissapointment of a game.
It's gonna be yuge!
Hearthstone is in sad times. Just want back game to state where it was about 2 years ago. Activision’s leading of Hearthstone is tragic and makes true veterans of Blizzard unhappy and dissapointed.
FINALLY!!
"big changes" usually means "be ready to be screwed".
I‘M CALLING IT!!!
The big change(s):
Hearthstone will get the „Heroes of Warcraft“-tag back lul
We expected smol fixes, but going to have bog changes instead.
Their "big changes" are pretty much always for the worse lately, so I expect the worst at this point...
