"There Are Big Changes Coming To Hearthstone In 2021" - Alec Dawson
Senior Game Designer Alec Dawson has shared some information about the upcoming Hearthstone year & more!
Also sorry this didn't get into the notes but: Yes Edwin will still rotate later this year and yes we will be reverting the nerf (along with others) at that time.

Want to take a second to clarify our plan for Edwin VanCleef. There are big changes coming to Hearthstone in 2021. We aren’t quite ready to share the full details, but they will be positive changes for both gameplay and the ease of getting into the game with a limited collection.

As one small part of this, Edwin’s time in Standard will come to a close. However, Hall of Fame as it has existed will be no more. This means there is no additional benefit to crafting or hoarding extra Edwins today.

In the coming months, we’ll be sharing some more details about what the changes are and why you should be hyped for them no matter what type of player you are.

We'll be looking at Wild more frequently throughout the year, setting some things up to help us do that better.

Any card release has the chance to shift Wild to some degree, the upcoming mini-set being no different. There's some good stuff!
We talked about Broomstick for quite a bit, want to see how these changes and upcoming new cards shift things first.

It’s one of the most important things for us and weighs heavily into any balance decisions we make. We’ve gotten a lot of feedback about Evolve, will approach it differently in the future. Less of a focus on cost reduction with cards like Mogu.

Stickyfinger certainly did its job but it does so in a swingy way (heightened by the weapon it was stealing as well). Tech cards shouldn’t be seen as a must but rather an option for you to include in certain matchups. The prevalence of Stickyfinger was too high for our liking.

Please not. We've had big changes for 2020 and I haven't played since the first week of the Darkmoon release.
arebyou serious? Rogue has been at the top or near it, fairly regularly. in just the past 2 years alone, Rogue has had Quest, Stealth, Aggro, Galakrond, etc....all with the ability to playthe long game or the fast one. Rogue is one of the most flexible classes in the game too. I think you just blanket statement the whole class vuz you were upset aboiut the Edwin Nerf.
True but i think that every OP card do need a counter. for ex. Jade idol - if you dont geist him u cant mill it , u cant clear it u cant win it. so everybody who decides to join the jade army just need to create good board control and reach mid game where they start to spamming 1 mana spells . Geist solve that problem, Geist also helped against cubelock a lot. sure he was in every deck as tech card just because u insta lost if u needed him against someone and u didnt have him. it is like preservative , better to have and not use than need without having it.
Same with the stickyfinger pirate , weapon destroy tech cards against heavy weapon decks like burgle rogue , gnomeferatu is also tech card against many decks .
Can blizzard tell me how i can beat 2511 armor druid without tech card "Platebreaker" ? it is a must to have him against that otherwise i loose it is not an option. maybe think about your moves and then create cards instead of that hype where u create cards like ilgynoth, knuckles , jade idol , grim patron , also togwaggle scheme is broken as fuck. Even when i play that deck dont tell me that it is cool to shuffle 20-60 nzoths to your deck ( no matter on card limit you just fill the deck with nzoths and keep them spamming.)
And any other broken decks needs a tech card to be deafeated. explain what u mean by that "option" sure , Option 1 is to use ooze to get weapon out , option 2 is to use sludge , option 3 use pirates to kill weapon by durability lose option 4 use face to destroy that weapon. thats options.
Than you have serious problem mate. If you want cure just hit the computer with hammer and go out.
This has the stench of "We had planned to hall of fame Edwin before releasing Darkmoon so we thought we could get away with releasing Foxy Fraud and just letting the game suffer for months"
This "nerf into uselessness now, unnerf a month later and rotate" nonsense doesn't inspire much confidence in their competence.
Their crowning achievement "new game mode" they were so excited about, Duels, was a massive flop due to their despicable greed infecting the game mode. And we're supposed to get excited again about "big changes"? At this point I expect any new big change to be detrimental for the game, making it more expensive, more unbalanced, more dependent on RNG, more buggy, and less worth my playing time.
You're absolutely right...a corporation's main goal is to make money and the top executives are incentivized to make as much profit as possible and to return high dividends to their investors which is why Blizzard will always make decisions to increase profits. Does it come at a cost of losing some customers? Only time will tell if the executive decisions were beneficial or not. They are all betting that they have made the correct "profit" inducing decisions. Their bonuses and their jobs depend on it.
It's not a perfect system and capitalism only works when people are guided by morals. However, as imperfect as capitalism is and as immoral as people are...capitalism is worlds better than any alternative where some form of governing body of people make all the decisions and people just do as their told...which may be coming to a city near you very soon. Enjoy what's left.
I left Hearthstone 2 months ago and honestly just check in every now and then to see if the players are any happier. I skimmed through the Whispers of the Old Gods expansion just a few days ago ... Man, those were the days. Those were the cards! Mage was the only class that had a decent amount of RNG, but that flavor fit Mages well.
Then I checked the recent expansions and their amount of RNG... Good God, it's a random shitfest. All skill has been thrown out of the window. Winning depends solely on luck and favorable match-ups. How can anybody enjoy that? I mean I get that LOTS of people enjoy it, but I am sure there are lots who are playing it because they don't know better. For instance, Gwent has like 5 RNG cards are none are used in regular play. The game feels much more like strategy than a card game. But to each their own I guess. I'm just sorry that lots of people are missing out.
Same. I've seen the Edwin nerf somewhere and just wanted to check the reactions. I simply don't understand why it is good for people to constantly blame a game and the developers, getting mad about it, yet they still play it everyday. I agree with the majority that blizzard's greed became unbearable and the game is pretty much a coin-flip simulator with extras. That is why I decided to quit after playing for almost 6 years. Nobody forces you to play something that makes you frustrated, it is that simple.
Guess blizz is paying children to downvote truthful comments.
I think I just pointed at this frustration and I was right lol
I have an addiction to this game and feel forced to play after years of collection and no objective in life or this game. What can I do to avoid this? I tried to unninstal this shit several times since last november.
IDK what is the tipping point, in 2020 I was playing only because I played since Naxx, so I have a pretty good collection, but ranked was not fun at all. But the reward system was the last sh** that I was afford to take, so I unistalled and never install it again.
I was at the very same spot as you were for a long time. I even tried to sell my acc once, but it came back to me haha
Thanks to the appearance of demon hunter, more rng-heavy cards, the stalling of wild meta and this new reward system, my disgust overcame my addiction and I just ended this chapter of my life. It's not an easy decision, but you will be surprised how much spare time you'll have when you can find and do a new hobby.
Or if you don't want to give up on card games, just try out something else. I started playing Gwent, but I barely play since 'I don't have time for games' right now.
The game having RNG doesn't mean there's no skill. Being able to follow a plan and memorize the correct plays isn't inheritely more skillful than playing odds or WotOG was a much simpler time for the game. There were less cards to worry about, less extreme mechanics, but there were also OTK and combo decks and being killed at 12 health without much warning.
Wait ... they are HoF'ing Edwin, yet there will be no dust refund like in years prior? Hahahaha, classic, family friendly Blizzard. The devil in disguise.
The past years have been rough for rogue players. Blizz butchering miracle, crystal core, king's bane, galakrond, preparation, vanish and now edwin.
Yep. It is the most nerfed class by a significant amount. Technically, DH has had a higher density of buffs, but not total. Don't forget secret passage, shadow jeweler hanar, blackjack stunner, evil miscreant, blade flurry. Any time rogue gets a tier 1 deck, Blizzard is like, "Well, we can't let rogue players have fun, so let's trash them so it's more fair. Fair meaning rogue tier 2 or below."
I don't really understand how these guys has a job inside a game like this. The company has become so cheap that are hiring really bad designers and devs to this game after fire the previous ones.
I mean......maybe they fear the situation of Skulking Guise vs Jade Idol again. It literally kills the jade druid deck instantly.
But yeah...I do agree this is a stupid statement.
Any card games has tech cards. The ones doesn't have it are not the good ones and they are slow as fuck.
