- There has been no mention so far of a chain of Event Quests to celebrate the release, like there usually is.
New Mechanics
- The Old Gods - Not totally new, but with some new tricks, it is a return of the 4 Old Gods: C'thun, Yogg-Saron, N'zoth and Y'shaarj!
- New Keyword: Corrupt - Cards that upgrade to a more powerful version if you play a higher costed card while they're in your hand.
- Old God Artifacts - Four ancient spells with zany effects. Each based on the original design of an Old God.
- 135 New Cards.
New Mechanics
Some mechanics that were seen in previous card sets were brought back on new cards, as well as some truly new mechanics were added:
- Your Lifesteal damages the opponent Hero instead of healing you.
- Draw a card. Guess if your next card costs more or less to draw it.
- After this attacks and kills a minion, excess damage hits the enemy hero.
- Transform spells in your deck into ones that cost (3) more. (They keep their original Cost.)
- Return a friendly minion to your hand. It costs (1) this turn.
- Transform all minions into random ones with the same Cost.
- After your hero attacks, give a Mech, Dragon, and Pirate in your hand +1/+1.
- Swap the Cost and Attack of all minions in your deck.
- You can view all the new cards in our Madness at the Darkmoon Faire Cards List.
Arena Changes
The Arena rotation is being shaken up. This time it is the same card sets you can find in Year of the Phoenix, but the Basic and Classic cards get added, as well as Whispers of the Old Gods, which means the following sets are active:
- Madness at the Darkmoon Faire
- Scholomance Academy
- Demon Hunter Initiate
- Ashes of Outland
- Galakrond's Awakening
- Whispers of the Old Gods
- Basic
- Classic
Theorycrafted Decks
We created a special Decks post yesterday, with a lot of new archetypes and a lot of new deck ideas. You can find the links to that Decks post below.
Alternatively, create your own deck with the Deckbuilder, add a good guide on how to pilot the deck and help create the post-launch meta!
That should get you started! Thanks for being with us throughout this exciting Madness at the Darkmoon Faire reveal period. Shoutout to everyone who helped in one way or another during this time, the other moderators and staff and the devs and all the users who gave us useful suggestions and feedback, and to everyone who enjoyed and supported our coverage. Nothing wrong with the new reward system. It's the same as LoR's basically.
Don't forget about all the bugs, not getting daily or weekly quests, achievements not being completed even tho you did it years ago and stuff like that.
Love this game, but I do not feel hype anymore. Blizzard LIED to us and I feel disappointed.
Respect to Zeddy that was first from streamers that didn't feel fear and speak up!
I had assumed we'd get to see the basement of Scholomance Academy and something to do with Kel'Thuzad and a cult as a PvE during Scholomance. I guess not
Ah, yes. Mask of C'Thun, Jewel of N'Zoth, Idol of Y'Shaarj, Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron.
... wait a minute
First of all, Blizzard LIED to us.
Second thing, those "new" mechanics are not so new (like returning minion to hand and reducing cost; those are two old effects, not mechanics, which are just combined)
Well, it's not like all cards in an expansion have totally new mechanics. They always introduce a new keyword (like Adapt in Un'Goro or Reborn in Uldum) which in this case is Corrupt. Moreover, they usually add new mechanics, which are cards with effects which had previously been unseen. An example could be Librams or Kael'thas' effect. Now we got a bunch of those in this expansion. Silas is very unique as well as Tickatus or The Nameless One. I could make a whole list of those, so in short, I do not agree with your statement.
Did you read what it actually says right under New Mechanics? The featured cards include returning mechanics as well, its half and half.
OK, I understand your point of view. Corrupt is definietly a new mechanism (or "key-word"), like Adapt in Un'Goro and so on. But for example: transforming spells into different ones with original cost of spell. It is a new card, but can we say that effect of this card is something brand new? No, if we have something like Renounce Darkness. Effects are different, of course, but there is nothing esentially new.
Also, Tickatus [/card]as having Corrupt keyword is something new, but discarding cards from deck is not somethinf I would call essentially new. F.e. [card]Fel Reaver, Gnomferatu.
Yes, so it should be called "New" Mechanics.
Yeah i agree with you here. I mean most of the mechanics aren't like 100% new, so it's a bit misleading calling them like this. I'd rather say that most of already existing mechanics are used in cards with somewhat new effects. Like you mentioned, Tickatus utilises the discarding mechanic, which is not something we've not seen before. So in fact Blizzard did "lie" to us, but I am still excited for the expansion ^_^
New expansion looks cool, and I love Lovecraftian/Old Gods stuff, so yeah, I'm excited too :) But what I mean about lie was about new system of exp and amount of prizes (totally different matter).
New Mechanics is just a heading, and as is written right below it, this happens to include looking at some of the old mechanics as well which have returned in a brand new way.
Sure it could say New and Returning Mechanics, maybe the article writer gave you too much credit.
I don't see a way around it but I wish they'd let you chose your free legendary. I intend to craft two golden and would hate to get one of the two as my free one.
yea idk why they dont make it like in runeterra where u get legend card token that u can use to craft whatever legendary you want.. oh wait I know why its blizzard :)
1. We only got 3 free packs (Whispers of the old Gods we got 9)
2. Those 3 packs we had to "unlock" by playing the game, instead of unlocking gold and getting these packs for free anyways.
Everything you need to know: BLIZZARD LIED TO US
