After 12 Years, Dave Kosak Leaves Blizzard Entertainment!
Dave Kosak (former lead Mission Designer on the Hearthstone team) announced on Twitter that he has left Blizzard Entertainment after 12 years.
- Dave joined the Hearthstone team in November 2016 (Mean Streets of Gadgetzan), he was previously the Lead Narrative Designer for World of Warcraft.
- Dave is responsible for the character - Patches the Pirate, created during a "brainstorming session" between the Hearthstone team and the World of Warcraft story team, prior to Kosak's joining Team 5. [Source]
- He was also responsible for the PvE content like the brand new Dungeon Run (in Kobolds and Catacombs).
- Recently Dave appeared in the Madness at the Darkmoon Faire announcement video, which was sadly his last video for the Hearthstone team.
- Dave is joining the DeviationGames studio and they are working on a secret project for now, which will make us go "Whoa" when announced!
Big announcement time!

After 12 remarkable years and countless adventures, I am moving on from Blizzard Entertainment. The other week I bid a fond farewell to the orc, who is dutifully wearing his mask. I will very much miss all of my Blizzard colleagues. pic.twitter.com/FJmDxFKhqN
Quote from Dave "Fargo" KosakIf you follow me because of #Hearthstone, no need to worry! Last week we announced a great expansion, a new mode, and new progression/rewards. Believe me when I say that’s only the beginning. Great things are in the works!
Quote from Dave "Fargo" KosakAnd, of course, #Shadowlands is around the corner for #WorldofWarcraft. I will be adventuring right alongside you. I am honored to have contributed to the Warcraft universe, and excited for what’s to come.
Quote from Dave "Fargo" KosakWhat’s next for me? I’m pleased to announce that I’ve taken on an important role at @DeviationGames! We are building… something secret. But amazing. I can’t say any more, but I promise: It’ll make you go “Whoa.”
We wish you the best Dave, you'll be missed!
Farewell, Dave! Thank you for leaving a mark on WoW and Hearthstone. Looking forward to your next project.
he contributed to first great PVE content, which defines all future PVE content, but people still focus on complaining about creation of Patches the Pirate
It's coming!
My heart broke reading this. Sure, the expansion videos he was in were cringe, but they were OUR cringe.
We will never forget you Dave :"(
He didn't die you know...
Damn he was the last memorable guy.
EDIT: Scratch that the lady and bald dude were pretty memorable from the Outland announcement.
So the cringe guy left...
dude, did you actually think the kids on this forum can take a joke about him burning in hell for creating patches? most of them probably don't know what a patches is xD. remember, these are the same players that think duels is a new game mode omegalul
Calling people kids while using emotes and terms like omegalul... Im going to guess emotionally your 13-15 years old and physically about 20 which is kind of sad.
Enjoy being edgy with your crappy internet speak and jokes about burning people in hell which lets face it are just hilarious see how his skin blisters hahah....
you must be fun to hang out with... it's just a joke about patches and the toxic meta the card has created. but i guess you wouldn't know.
and by the way, i'd rather be "edgy" by using "crappy internet speak", than not being able to know the difference between "your" and "you're".
Dare I say the last good person to leave the Hearthstone team.
omg he just perfected his cringey acting skill in this HS new expansion, and the he just left us? :(
sadddddd, it's like Ben Brode all over again. feels like losing a friend
Why everyone downvote this comment? I Mean, its true
No I don't think so
I mean I really can't say I liked it he was always so cringey. It was just to much for me personally. And I have to say I really don't like the dungeon runs. I'm simply a fan of the old adventures. But I would never wish someone something like you cause of a card or other things in game I don't like. Everyone has some cards, gamemods aso he doesn't like. But that's no reason to wish the people they did this should burn in hell. They put so much work in this game and they can't satisfy everyone. But you should better be satisfied with this fact.
Im gonna miss Dave for all his silliness~
Twelve years working in the same place is still very impressive these days.
it has more to do with how blizz has changed. The former CEO created a new company after he left and with him are all the old blizz staff members. Dreamhaven the name. Would not be surprised if he would go to them also.
A true SMOrc hero. F
