Mozaki's Hero Power Animation & Epilepsy Concerns
Hearthstone community manager Chris Attalus just addressed Mozaki's Hero Power in Duels.
In this case, each time Mozaki's Hero Power is being used, the Hero Power animation flashes the whole screen for a second, which can cause a seizure for people with epilepsy.
This is an example of the brightest moment in the flash.
Quote from RyuOnRedditAs an Epileptic, Mozaki’s hero power is incredibly terrible, as it causes the entire screen to flash each time it is used. I hope we could get support from Blizzard in changing the flashing effect!
Quote from Chris_AttalusThis will be fixed with the Madness at the Darkmoon Faire patch!
All of these people whining and moaning about something being changed to be made more accessible would 100% be singing a different tune if it affected them.
Blizz: New game implementation! From now on every time you take damage in Hearthstone your balls (if you have them) get tazed! You get to really feel the pain that your character goes through!
Whiners: OMFG Blizz this is horrible! How could you design something that that is so harmful to me!
Other forum posters: If you don't like it, just get your balls removed, simple
Whiners: OMFG you horrible Karen <redacteds>! This must be changed to accommodate me immediately!
I never said that Blizzard should not attempt to change it.
I never said that the effect should even stay in the game.
What I did say was that there are a great deal of things in the world that can trigger a seizure and many of them fly under the radar like a ride at Disneyland, but this one didn't.
I really think they should change it if it's a known issue, but I am pointing out that there's a lot of stuff in life that doesn't even get noticed and if it does...it quite often doesn't get fixed...so you can get your panties out of the twist they're in now. Take your mask off in the shower and be sure to give yourself a hug and you'll feel better soon.
You talk to walls here .....just laugh at them like I do.
The whole new mode is epileptic...
Yeah sure only in this instance they are already on the boat, in the middle of the ocean so if they have a problem with what the captain is doing their options are to abandon ship or request the captain to not mess with them after being given smooth sailing since the start of the journey.
The whole ''new mode'' gets me epilepsy.
Are you guys complaining that they're going to fix what it has been reported?... It's not that simple. You can't do ctrl + c. and move the patch to other patch so easily. Also, as someone already said, releasing on iOs and Android stores needs some bureaucracy. Don't y'all remember that all new expansions always came late in those platforms? It's not that easy... To me, it sounds like you guys don't even know about software development and are just complaining mainly for the art of it.
This analogy is terrible.
Obviously people who get seasick don't go on boats for fun, just like people with epilepsy won't go to a rave with flashing strobe lights.
But this is a card game we are talking about. Flashing lights are not an integral part of the experience, they don't add anything to the game, they are unnecessary. You really think people should give up on Hearthstone altogether just to avoid having something as insignificant as a small flashing effect removed?
I'm amazed. People now is complaining about making the game more inclusive and safe. They probably weren't even aware of these flashy lights, but now it's the most important thing in the world...
God I swear you people act like you’re new to the internet. Make it more “inclusive”. That word is so hilarious.
You're absolutely right. "I don't want to change, I want the world to change for me!" Where does the sense of entitlement come from?
Got news for ya'll...you're entitled to two things...Jack and $h** and Jack left town.
Great point...how many games actually have effects that could trigger the same thing? It's not just this one. Someone could get a seizure triggered going on a ride at Disneyland, but I don't see them changing their rides.
Probably because A FREAKING AMUSEMENT PARK RIDE is a lot harder to change than A SODDING FLASHING EFFECT IN A GAME. Try and god damn think here about how minor of a change it is, how it ACTUALLY will not impact you WHATSOEVER, and how its removal WILL impact those that suffer from it?
Kindly F off if you are so damn entitled that you think garbage like this should stay in the game because "omg don't ever change things to make it accessible to others."
Bad analogy. The parallel would be telling someone who gets motion sick to never go to a theme park again. The argument H1st0ry is making is that epileptics shouldn't game, not that epileptics shouldn't play the Duels mode.
Imagine if you took that attitude towards everything in life "I don't want to change, I want the world to change for me!"
Yes it sucks if you or someone you know has epilepsy, but there's a reason many games have disclaimers/warnings and EULA's that essentially indemnify companies of any liability and warn you ahead of time.
Yes, most companies WILL try to avoid unnecessary stuff to "trigger" seizures, but to act so infantile about your (or someone else's disability) is frankly speaking...bullshit.
If someone gets seasick easily THEY either avoid going on boats, or THEY go buy medicine, they don't board the boat and then demand that the captain provide them with the medicine and demand that he sail as smooth as possible.
If you think it's right for people to demand like that, that's how you end up with a society full of Karens.
Well said. Those who disagree are self entitled.
Could you be anymore sexist?
I have no idea why I'm getting downvoted, but I assume it's because they can't tell I'm being sarcastic.
There's a lot of other effects like this in the game. I'm not epileptic or anything but it really annoys my eyes every time I see the animation for Lightning Storm.
It's not harsh, it's soulless. Pathetic.
