Update 3:33 PM EST: Added message from Ben Brode on Undertaker.
Update from Ben Brode on Undertaker
No changes to Undertaker... yet. The card is still being given lots of attention. Also, it appears the interview posted below is old.
Quote from Ben BrodeHey everyone!
Thanks for your thoughts on Undertaker. I wanted to mention that this interview actually took place close to the launch of GvG last year. Things have changed a lot in the meta, and we’ve been paying a lot of attention to Undertaker since I gave that interview. I just wanted to make sure you guys know that a lot of careful research goes into this stuff. We’re always keeping an eye on things, and we’ll make changes when they’re necessary.
Thanks!
Ben Brode on Card Nerfs & The Future
Ben Brode sat down with GameSpot's Rob Crossley to discuss the Hearthstone world after Goblins vs Gnomes. We've recapped the important parts of the brief interview below. To read it in full, head on over to the full article on the GameSpot website.
Quote from Ben BrodeLeeroy Jenkins
Leeroy did actually appear in the world championships, in a Miracle deck by Tarei, and I have seen it still around. It's certainly not as endemic as it used to be, but that was the goal in the first place.
Flare
We felt people were a little bit getting randomly screwed by Hunter if you had a secrets deck because it was no cost to the Hunter to remove them. Now at least you know that Hunter players need to make a sacrifice with Flare, in that they need to make their deck worse against non-secret decks if they want to keep that advantage over secret decks.
Gadgetzan Auctioneer
Auctioneer, mixed with the new Spare Parts cards from Goblins vs Gnomes, we thought that was pretty dangerous, and a change we had to make.
Undertaker
We did add some cards to Goblins vs Gnomes that are specifically good against Deathrattle decks. But The Undertaker is one of those cards that feels really powerful when he's hurting you, but if you draw him late in the game he's pretty terrible. We were paying attention to how people were using him, and looked at how we were playing against him, but we didn't feel he's nerf-worthy. He is very powerful, but it wasn't past the line for us.
Soulfire
We felt [it] was a little bit too efficient.
Starving Buzzard
Buzzard is a little bit more unseen now though, but its mechanic, where you could draw your entire deck fairly consistently early on, we felt we had to change that.
The "Having too many cards" problem
There are a lot of games in this genre that solve this problem already. Also we have some ideas that are unique to Hearthstone that we think could potentially resolve these types of problems. One thing we're aware of is new players could find the game harder to get into, and harder to learn, the more cards we add.
We have ideas to solve those problems, but I think we're a little bit far off from those problems today.
Hearthstone Bot Ban Wave
Another wave of bans have gone out today for Hearthstone bots, and this time, they're permanent.
Quote from ZeriyahIn our continued efforts to promote a fair play environment within Hearthstone, we have permanently banned Hearthstone accounts found to be using third-party programs that automate gameplay, which is a violation of our Terms of Use.
We will continue to closely monitor Hearthstone and take action as needed to protect the game environment. Hearthstone accounts found to be cheating in any form will be permanently closed without warning.
If you believe that you’ve encountered a possible bot or other form of exploitation, please let us know by emailing our hacks team at hacks@blizzard.com.This is a new wave of bans that has not affected those players suspended by the first wave. As we mentioned in both our Recent Actions Against Botting in Hearthstone and Continued Actions Against Botting in Hearthstone posts, those found to be botting after the first wave will receive a permanent ban from the game.
Accounts banned in this wave have been discovered to be botting after our warnings and not permanent bans against those already actioned upon in the first wave.
Often you gain bad cards as well. Druids can ramp up first turn and play a Yeti or bigger minions. Often it wins them the game right away. Still, it is not a common thing. To be honest ca not remember a moment where i lost due to a bad Unstable Portal minion. Right now the Mage is out of the meta anyway. Shows that the card can not be so broken.
My money would be on Dr Doom since that card has much bigger value than mana cost and no throwback like unstable portal which can pull 0-2 mana minions you or something which is entirelly useless.
Was this a drunk-post? How is getting a 5 mana minion for 2 mana by spending a 2 mana card (and taking up a deck slot to boot) overpowered but a 1 drop that I can turn into a monster not?
Dr. Boom needs a nerf so bad. He's can do a minimum of 11 damage and a max of 17. All that for 7 mana. Undertaker is stupid powerful but there are enough options in the game to remove him on turn two. I think only paladins don't have an option against a 2/3 undertaker on turn 2. I know you aren't always going to get that removal spell every game but there are early game cards to stop an undertaker cold. That being said I wouldn't be surprised or upset if he gets nerfed.
Undertaker NEED nerf but Savjz said it much better than Ben - "they can't nerf undertaker because a lot of people payed real money just to get that specific card from Naxx"
That card is nightmare for a lot of classes and saying it is not nerf worthy is really bs .... also terrible when it comes later? Aren't all 1 drops terrible when they come later? Like I won't be happy seeing Argent squire at turn 6 or 2/1 murlock card
I doubt that this is an issue. People paid a lot money for packs as well, still no reason to leave the cards as them are if they are too powerful. What i am thinking is a different argument:
Blizzard does benefit of Naxxramas having some very strong and often essential cards. If there are essential cards in later wings people are going to be more motivated to unlock Naxxramas with real money.
You pay for packs to get random cards and even if you get the one you wanted you can after nerf disenchant for FULL PRICE back . You pay for Naxx to get specific cards which after nerf you wouldn't be able to disenchant. There is a huge difference in that.
It would be technically same like ordering pizza and you get just 1/2 of it because they decided to nerf it to half. They would need to make some compensation for it which would cost them money / refunds and people who spend money on it would complain a lot and rightfully so
When they nerf a card, you can DE for full dust, so I don't see the issue. Maybe for UT they can make it more than usual dust, to account for the dollar cost of the Naxx wing.
so if a card is "very powerful" it doesnt need a nerf but if its "a little bit too efficient" it does? come on man
still feel that undertaker should get only attack buff.
"new players could find the game harder to get into, and harder to learn, the more cards we add." harder to learn? not rly. harder to get in to when you go up against a full pay2warrior on ranks 20-15 and you realize how much gold you need for classic, gvg and naxx while doing 40g dailys? the most problem i have when convincing new friends to this game is convincing them its not pay2win. rly curious what solutions unique to blizzard they have in mind.
also pls pls add option to chose which pack you get as arena reward. just add a pack token you can exchange in shop for any pack you want and give them an expiration date of like a week so ppl cant stock pile them for new expands. cant be that hard
ps. this always makes me laugh
Looks like someone forgot to draw their firey win axe!
yeah i have a hard time convincing my friends that this is not pay to win as well. As with all card games, hearthstone is not an exception to this rule.... You either have to put a lot of time or money to get efficient decks... Sure, you could say that you could have a really good cheap deck, but who wants to play the same cheap decks over and over again without any variety you can get from legends and epics. All card games need a time or money invested to get some return. Imo, I am not happy with my return on investment with hearthstone. Maybe card games are not my thing, I dont know.
Eat it, you botting losers.
I want the answer to one damn question. Are we ever going to see a buff? I can think of several CLASS cards that need a small tuning, not to be necessarily competitive viable but at least usable. Kidnapper, Dust Devil, Lightspawn, etc. I understand the need for "weak" baseline cards like War Golem or Magma Rager, but I don't see why we can't make Lightspawn a 1/5 so it can at least ping if silenced or Dust Devil not Zap-o-matics bitch.
Yeah, I gotta say.. especially with a card like Kidnapper that is an epic class card and is quite literally never played.. something needs to be done.
i agree. mby not on unplayable commons but on epics most definetly. especialy on rogue who feels like always gets the short end of the stick on his class cards (tho Sabotage is awesome)
I beg to differ. New cards can bring new things to the table. If I want a sap on a stick on a rogue minion why make a new card and not buff Kidnapper? Then make a new card with a completely new concept?
soooooo... no word on dr boom or handlock....
You won't get any hints on what cards they may be targeting for nerfs until they announce them. Any interview with a Blizzard employee is basically an empty interview where the future is concerned. They can be pretty informative on past actions they've taken, but you will never get anything out of them concerning future development.
I haven't had anything I've wanted to write about. And I'm a shitty deck constructor. So it limits possible content. For all intents, it's a dead project. On the other hand, I have more time for other things.
