Scholomance Academy Community AMA - Facts, Card Discussions & More
We've prepared an article about recently answered questions on Reddit/Twitter from developers about the upcoming expansion - Scholomance Academy.
Note: Some questions/answers might be slightly edited to improve the reading experience, but their meaning should stay the same.
Q: I wouldn't be surprised if they keep Transfer Student updated with the next 4-5 boards before just putting one final effect on it for any boards it doesn't recognize.
A: This is basically correct. We plan to update Transfer Student with custom effects for new boards, while he is in Standard. After he rotates to Wild, new boards will get a consistent "Battlecry: Discover a <Expansion> card." for each board. Plans may change in the future, but that's what we're thinking right now, at least. [SOURCE]
Q: How will dual-class cards be handled in the collection?
A: They will appear in their classes rather than neutral. When you build a Druid deck, you'll see Druid/Hunter cards and Druid/Shaman cards in your class. If you're just flipping through your collection, you'll see them in both classes. [SOURCE]
Q: Talking about Dual Class setups...
A: Each class will have access to 14 cards across their class (6 cards) and their two dual-class pairings (4 cards each). [SOURCE]
Q: How are the rarities divided among the 6 cards? I see that classes are still getting solo legendaries as well.
A: 2 Commons, 2 Rares, 1 Epic, 1 Legendary in the class itself. [SOURCE]
Q: Do dual-class cards activate Vendetta?
A: They do not, they are still considered being from your class. [SOURCE]
Q: Does Devolving Missiles work with SpellPower? The way it is worded leads me to believe it adds + value to the devolve effect? (2) less etc.
A: I believe you're referring to the Spell Damage keyword... Devolving Missiles doesn't deal damage. [SOURCE]
Q: So... if I understood correctly.... dual-class legendaries are 10? For example, Druid will get 2 legendaries (like all exp) and one of those is a dual-class?
A: Each class has one pure-class Legendary, and each class-pairing has a dual-class Legendary. So there's a Druid Legendary, a Druid-Shaman Legendary, and a Druid-Hunter Legendary. In effect, each class has access to 3 class Legendaries! [SOURCE]
Q: How does Rattlegore work with N'Zoth, the Corruptor? Would we get the lower stated minion or would it be 9/9 across the board?
A: You'd get a 9/9, an 8/8, a 7/7, etc. Kind of like a series of Jade Golems, but in reverse. [SOURCE]
Q: Is It safe to assume that dual-class cards don't count against Pure Paladin?
A: Lightforged Crusader (Pure Paladin) cards care about no Neutrals; dual-class cards aren't Neutral, so they're fine. [SOURCE]
Q: Can we get dual cards from Lightforged Crusader?
A: Priest/Paladin cards ARE Paladin cards, so you can get them from Lightforged Crusader, Discovers, etc. [SOURCE]
Q: How do dual-class cards interact with Rogue Burgle effects (Bazaar Burglary, Vendetta, etc.)?
A: "Another class" specifically means class cards that are not your class. So Dragon's Hoard, when played by a Rogue, could discover a Hunter/Druid card, but not a Mage/Rogue card. [SOURCE]
Q: Would the Mage/Rogue or Warrior/Rogue card in my deck (or discovered) reduce Vendetta to zero?
A: A Mage/Rogue or Warrior/Rogue card is still a Rogue card, so it would not count for Vendetta. [SOURCE]
Q: How golden dual-class cards are gonna look? Just all golden regardless?
A: Normal class goldens show their class color via the ribbon running down the center of the card (most noticeable at the bottom). Dual-class goldens are the same, except there are two smaller side-by-side ribbons. [SOURCE]
Q: Spellburst - Is it one time effect or is it once per turn effect?
A: Spell burst is one time. [SOURCE]
Q: Can Devolving Missiles hit the same target multiple times?
A: Devolving Missiles can hit the same target, just like Arcane Missiles. [SOURCE]
Q: Is Spellburst currently intended to be limited to Scholomance, or is it planned to be more evergreen (like Rush, Lifesteal, Discover) returning in future sets?
A: Specifically intended for Scholomance! We wanted something that really strongly tied to the theme of the set: Magic! [SOURCE]
Q: Can Wand Thief discover Devolving Missiles?
A: It’s a Mage spell, so Yes. [SOURCE]
Q: Does Rattlegore keep buffs? For instance, if you gave it Taunt would its resummons have Taunt?
A: No, he doesn't keep buffs when he dies. [SOURCE]

hm, no, you got downvoted because you said that based on a wrong fact, classes wont have 3 legendaries each because the number of legendaries increased, it will be because part of the legendaries will be dual class, which means they will be aviable for double of decks. with that said, is even less greedy in the literal speaking, cause you have the double of oportunities with just one legendary
lol "censored". Shows you the mindset of some idiots out there.
Complain, complain, complain, even if it is out of ignorance. And then when other people call out your bullshit, it's still the other people's fault and the man is out to get you…
smh
In case you still did not get it: 2 of the 3 class legendaries are dual cards.
There will be 10 single-class legendaries and there exist 10 dual-class pairings with one legendary each. 10+10 = 20 legendaries (or basically 2 per class as always)
I can't believe these questions are real
they've made stupid questions so every stupid can acknowledge the obvious
who is that stupid?
There are 2 ways to look on this question:
Ancestral Spirit has the same wording, and if you activate the deathrattle, it doesnt consume the original one. So there will be a 9/9 and an 8/8.
I have a Rattlegore question I can not find in here...
If you play Play Dead on a 9/9 Rattlegore, do you get a 9/9 and an 8/8, or just an 8/8?
Just based on wording (resummon as opposed to summon) I think it would despawn and respawn the Rattlegore as an 8/8.
Deathrattles normally trigger from the minion dying. Therefore it can not work the other way around: the minion can not die from triggering its deathrattle.
Play dead simply triggers the deathrattle without killing the minion. That means you will have two minions: a 9/9 and and 8/8
Such fallacy makes it that Play Dead on Weasel Tunneler, The Skeleton Knight and on Anub'arak would add copies of each card to a deck and hand while the minions themselves stay on board.
A better example would be the Recurring Villain, which is the closest we have to Rattlegore. Triggering Villain's deathrattle will resummon it as a New 3/6 minion, without keeping the original buffed guy intact. Rattlegore will work in the same fashion.
Your scenario would be likely with the Reincarnate card of Shaman. That one would destroy the Rattlegore, summoning an 8/8, and give the former one - 9/9 - back.
If that’s true then shadow step will need nerfed cuz its infinite damage combo with knife juggler and note taker
It's not though. Diligent Notetaker is a Shaman card, not a Rogue one
Diligent Notetaker is a shaman card, so this isn't a concern. It's not likely to be OP in shaman. The best combo I can think of is lavaburst for 10 damage to the face at 8 mana; maybe 12-14 damage with spell damage. Not bad for 2-3 cards, but not game-breaking, considering the relatively low tempo value.
Outside of that, you're probably only getting a 3-4 mana removal spell; shaman doesn't have the same sort of high-power spells to do something really crazy with this, like druid or mage might. Fireball is notably better with it than lavaburst. It's just a "good" card though, and I can't really see it being broken in any shaman deck, even in wild. It just doesn't generate enough tempo, and you can't really play it on turn 2 for tempo, because you need to play a spell while it's on board for the card really be good.
Unless shaman get a new spell that really breaks the game, the card will probably be a staple in decks that can really make use of it.
I guess burgle/thief rogue could somehow get this and combo with it using shadowstep, but how is that deck going to fit knife juggler? And, the chances of getting a notetaker are pretty low to begin with.
In Standard, you could discover Diligent Notetaker with either Pilfer or Bazaar Mugger
In Wild, you have access to Lotus Agents also.
I mean, the chances of someone choosing to run those cards in a deck and then also getting lucky enough to get the Notetaker, are basically non-existent......
BUT!, I look forward to the random highlight video on youtube that will show someone pulling it off (likely after 1000+ games of trying)
Im not even sure it works with Notetaker. Spellburst should activate after the spell resolves, but the Notetaker wont be on the board when it happens. Unless you have 2 of them... Good luck getting 2 of those in rogue!
I honestly don't know myself either... According to the official Hearthstone website it says Spellburst activates "When you cast a spell"
according to the Hearthstone wiki, Spellburst happens "after you cast a spell"
Yeah, but what if you Pilfer into a Whispers of EVIL which gives you Draconic Lackey which yields a Skeletal Dragon that gives you an Azure Explorer, which will undoubtedly net you a Dragonqueen Alexstrasza, who kindly provides you a Nethrandamus? And then your opponent kills your Draconic Lackey and your Skeletal Dragon giving your Nethrandamus a two cost proc, which will summon 1-2 Sethekk Veilweavers, and when you cast Praise Galakrond! on it will give you a Dark Prophecy into the damn Diligent Notetaker? This is an EZ 4 turn combo set up that will grand infinite Knife Juggler damage combo and is clearly OP. Blizzard needs to nerf this.
I thought Spellburst was a continuous effect like Violet Teacher. It's more of a one and done Battlecry. That's so much worse...
I'm sure there will be a card that makes you glad its a one time effect.
