SCHOLOMANCE ACADEMY
HEARTHSTONE’S NEWEST EXPANSION
Greetings, aspiring adept! We’re thrilled to welcome you to Scholomance Academy! Within the lofty halls of this fabled magic college, the (mostly) good Headmaster Kel’Thuzad and the rest of our faculty are here to guide the next generation of greats, from Warlocks to Warriors and everything between. We encourage the pursuit of double majors and offer a plethora of cross-over studies. Whatever flavor of major you favor, Scholomance has the training grounds to suit your needs!
Just . . . don’t go exploring those dusty crypts beneath the schoolgrounds. There’s no reason at all to be concerned about what Kel’Thuzad and the Cult of the Damned are stirring up down there . . .
Scholomance Academy will launch worldwide in early August! You can find the full schedule for card reveals here. Be sure to visit the card library to see which cards were announced today and check back frequently—it’ll be updated with new cards as they’re revealed over the coming weeks!
Introducing Dual Class Cards
Scholomance Academy is renowned for providing its pupils with a richly varied magical education across multiple mystical disciplines. Dual-Class cards embody this cross-pollination of learnings by mashing up unique mechanics inspired by both classes’ strengths, unlocking a whole new spectrum of gameplay possibilities. These Dual-Class cards make up 40 of the 135 cards to be released with Scholomance Academy. Each Dual-Class combination also includes a shared Legendary minion—that course's professor!
The 10 class combinations are:
- Druid/Hunter
- Hunter/Demon Hunter
- Demon Hunter/Warlock
- Warlock/Priest
- Priest/Paladin
- Paladin/Warrior
- Warrior/Rogue
- Rogue/Mage
- Mage/Shaman
- Shaman/Druid
New Keyword: Spellburst
Scholomance Academy introduces a new keyword: Spellburst, a one-time only effect when you cast a spell! With a Spellburst minion or weapon in play, casting a Spell will activate its Spellburst effect. Spellburst minions add a new way to combo, play, and spell-blast your way to Legend!
Studies
Studies are new spells that allow you to Discover a card immediately and also reduce the mana cost of the next card you play of that type. At Scholomance Academy, dedicated study is rewarded with power!
Year of the Phoenix Phase 2
Scholomance Academy marks the beginning of the second phase of the Year of the Phoenix. Between now and the next expansion, you can expect several major updates from us, including balance patches, new Battlegrounds Heroes and minions, a seasonal event, and what was previously spell-locked—a new solo experience and Battlegrounds feature! Let’s not forget—a new game mode is on its way as well! We’ll have more details to share on these exciting developments in the months to come.

HAIL TO THEE, OH SCHOLOMANCE
THE MAGIC SCHOOL OF YORE
YOUR LEGACY OF GLORY SHINES
MAY THEE STAND FOREVER MORE!
DemonHunter/Warlock is gonna be my favourite im sure, as i love creative and unintended tempo decks
So shaman is getting more useless cards? Nice!
I also love how they exaggerate with the overloads
I really like it so far. The dual class cards currently are very playable in at least one of the classes and the legendarys seem also pretty cool. The warrior one is useless for every archtype tho... well I think I will take the price hit ^^
Why do they treat us like kids? Cant we have a decent story with some kind of fmv with a real good story and why do they make these shitty videos where they ......ahhhh so fricking annoying. Cats? funny..oh wait, no it's not. See you HS im off to MTG.
Good luck with the lands RNG! ...you'll need it.
Is this a troll?
I really like the idea of dual-class cards. With 10 legendaries being playable in two classes, there's a good chance that they are all playable in at least one of their classes, and it's gonna be fun trying them out in different decks. This is what I've been saving dust for! ^_^
And Shan'do Wildclaw seems really cool. In an all-beast deck, he lets you chose between a slightly worse Prince Keleseth and a better Prince Taldaram, fitting both a combo and a tempo playstyle. Too bad that Druid doesn't have that many beasts, but maybe there are some magical creatures in the expansion.
How does dual class work? does each class both get the same legendary?
So if you open 1 copy you get it for both classes?
With 10 crossovers, I assume that there'll be 10 dual class legendaries, and 10 single class legendaries, + 4 or 5 neutrals.
And I guess dual-class cards appear in both classes in the collection manager. So, if you open one, you'll see them twice.
It works the same as tri-class cards in Meanstreet of Gadgetzan.
You do realize Spellburst only triggers once, right? So it'll only return one Lightning Bolt to your hand, and then it'll stop.
Yeah, just went back and saw that. Thank god that's the case!
So Diligent Notetaker and Lightning Bolt is a 2 card 24 damage turn 10 combo? Oh boy....
Also Wretched Tutor looks nuts as anti-aggro and it's neutral! Jesus!
Spellburst procs only once per minion, so no lightning bolt galore.
No, it’s a one-time only effect. :P
Just a heads up to read it again slowly :)
"Scholomance Academy introduces a new keyword: Spellburst, a one-time only effect when you cast a spell!"
Spellburst can be activated only ONCE, like battlecry.
You could return a minion with Spellburst to your hand though, and the effect should get reset. So, in theory, with a Dilligent Notetaker and a Lightning Bolt and a Youthful Brewmaster, you could cast 4 Lightning Bolts in one turn for 12 damage.
Doesn't seem all that impressive, 3 cards and 10 mana to do 12 damage. At least not in a combo deck, and Brewmaster doesn't seem worth in a tempo/burn Shaman.
The real combo enabler will be Lighting Bloom. Malygos (still not HoF'd for some asinine reason) into two of those into Lava Burst + 2x Lightning Bolt is 26 damage. Now that's how you end a game.
However, Diligent Notetaker is a great tool for getting to that combo turn. Spellburst the Lighting Bolt to kill a Satyr Overseer or whatever early, so you don't just die, but you can still keep the spell for your combo later.
Or just toss into burst shaman for a 3rd or 4th Lava Burst, for that much more reach.
