All Card Changes! - Hall of Fame and Priest - Coming March 26th!
One of the main recurring themes of a new rotation year is that several cards will be moved to the Hall of Fame. These changes will go into effect on Thursday March 26th 2020. Here are the affected cards for this year:
Hall of Fame
- Leeroy Jenkins
- Leeroy Jenkins is one of Blizzard’s most beloved characters, but his time has come. He just ends too many games, with too much neutral face damage, and hinders class identity.
- Mountain Giant
- Mountain Giant has been around as a deck enabler for a long time and Blizzard enjoys the decks he helped create. By rotating it allows them to fill that design space with new cards.
- Mind Control Tech
- Mind Control Tech is the kind of random effect that Blizzard no longer wants to promote in Standard, because it often brings out very negative feelings and big swings in game state.
- Acolyte of Pain
- Acolyte of Pain is one of the most popular forms of Card Draw in the game and it makes it hard to differentiate between classes.
- Spellbreaker
- Much like Acolyte of Pain, rotating Spellbreaker will allow Blizzard to fill the design space with different Silence cards.
Quote from HearthPwn"s interview w/ Dean "IksarHS" Ayala -- Check back Wednesday for the full Interview!Dean: Cards like Leeroy and Mountain Giant and Sylvanas and Ragnaros, are cards that are good in every Meta and as a result of that every expansion people are playing those same cards.
The whole point of doing an expansion is that you log in and things feel fresh and different and if the Basic and Classic set have those more universally strong cards that game play experience feels more stale.
Priest Changes
Blizzard had already hinted at this several months ago when Divine Spirit was a much used card in Standard at the end of Saviors of Uldum, but changes are coming to the Priest Basic and Classic set.
The main reason for this is that some of the cards in the Basic and Classic set no longer align with the class identity that Blizzard set out for the Priest class. They want Priests to be strong at control and fighting on the board. They hope to get closer to that vision with these changes they are making.
It starts with cards that need more change than just mana changes. They simply do not fit any longer with the class identity or are limiting design space. That is why the following cards will be moved to the Hall of Fame and replaced with new cards.
Replacements
These are the cards they are being replaced with:
Mana & Mechanics Changes
That is not all however. To complete their vision, Blizzard also announced changes to the following cards, most of them are mana changes, but there’s some mechanical changes too, like Power Word: Shield no longer providing card draw:
Quote from HearthPwn"s interview w/ Dean "IksarHS" Ayala -- Check back Wednesday for the full Interview!HearthPwn: [Are you keeping a close eye on Priest performance, and would you be willing to make more aggressive changes if it turns out it’s necessary?]
Dean: Yeah, absolutely. I think we will make a little more aggressive changes than we have done in recent memory and this is even more true for Demon Hunter.

No, if you got both you will only get dust for golden one
So if i have golden velen and normal leeroy i get dust for both but not if i have golden and normal leeroy/velen, right?
I absolutely hate the MC Tech and Spellbreaker hits. We need tech against degenerate decks, MC Tech was necessary against Rez type priests and decks with big multiple minions like Conjurers mage or Kangors pally or pre nerf Shammy.
And no Spellbreaker means we only have Owl left for tech against big buff decks or the million Elusives we have now.
I think these changes just make the new, F2P player experience so much worse. By nerfing the classic set, new players won't be able to acquire valuable, competitive cards without investing a lot on new expansions up front. There is no graceful way to hook these players into the game; they will give up and walk away before dropping money on expansions.
Half of these are not even nerfs....
That's the core of "pure f2p" players.
The developers had made a huge step towards f2p players (I mean duplicate prevention for all cards) and still there are some whiners.
Just leave the game if you do not like it.
What, one can’t criticize any aspect of the game without being a “whiner?” Only fanboys who think blizzard can do no wrong may play? If you can’t deal with a little fair criticism maybe you’re the one who should leave, for your own well being.
This change doesn’t even affect me directly. I’m just saying that it makes for a poorer experience for new players, overall, even considering the new no duplicates rule, etc. Making the classic set worse makes it a poor investment, and this hurts and discourages new players the most. In turn, that’s going to hit the long term health of the community.
And the free meta deck they get now? Also doesnt help to get to platinum rank and get free packs every month? They made a huge step towards players really....the no duplicates alone saves ppl thousands of dollars
It sucks they won't allow Priest to do face damage but at least we didn't get another Radiance.
On the bright side it's time to craft golden Velen for wild.
Ah, it's good to see we're moving away from rng swings like Puzzle Box of-- er, MC Tech in standard.
SW:D was really nice at 3 mana :D
Guys I dont know if the dust refund is still working on those cards that are going to the hall of fame, does somebody knows about it, do I craft a golden Leeroy for the dust refund?
Press F Leeroy Jenkins you will forever remain in our heart
At least we have Chicken
If I made a list of 100 Priest cards that I thought would be Hall of Famed, Shadowform would not be on that list.
holy fire wouldnt be there either
Might not be because it was broken, but because it was too different and just didn’t work.
It's not a power thing, just an identity thing. They removed all face-hitting firepower from Priest spells
This is too much cards for amount of my dust, i guess i won't be able to get everything golden 🙃
If they succeed in making Priest a class that fights on the board and stuff...I'm gonna like this new Priest
