Battlegrounds - Deathwing Nerf Coming and More
Dean "IksarHS" Ayala continued his twitter activity and posted about a host of Battlegrounds related topics. Most eye-catching among his statements was the fact Blizzard have been playtesting Deathwing at +2 attack on his hero power (currently +3) and will likely nerf him to that soon. He also mentions that Millhouse Manastorm needs a buff!
Read all Dean had to say below:
Quote from Blizzard10 Battlegrounds Fun Facts!
1. Murloc Tidehunter is the most picked Tier 1 Minion. Spawn of N'Zoth for Tier 2, Cobalt Guardian for Tier 3, Defender of Argus for Tier 4, Brann Bronzebeard for tier 5, and Ghastcoiler for Tier 6.
Quote from Blizzard2. Dancin' Deryl is the 2nd most played hero on the NA, EU, and Asia servers. He is the 11th most played hero on the Chinese server.
Quote from Blizzard3. Reno Jackson is the 4th most picked hero, but has the 24th highest placement ranking among all heroes. Ragnaros is 23rd place and Pyramad is 25th.
Quote from Blizzard4. Among 5k+ rated players, Jaraxxus has the 28th highest average placement. Among players with less than 5k rating, Jaraxxus is the 5th highest average placement. Among <5k rated players, he has the 2nd highest top 4 rate (69.5%), only behind Deathwing.
Quote from Blizzard5. Among 5k+ rated players, The Great Akazamzarak has the 8th highest average placement. Among players with less than 5k rating, The Great Akazamzarak is the 20th highest average placement.
Quote from Blizzard6. Lich Baz'hial has the 4th lowest average placement, but the 9th highest rate of 1st place finishes.
Quote from Blizzard7. The least powerful hero in all regions at all levels is Millhouse Manastorm. He has the lowest average placement and lowest rate of top 4 and top 1. He could use a buff :).
Quote from Blizzard8. Among 11k+ rated players. Nozdormu has the highest average placement.
Quote from Blizzard9. Deathwing is the most powerful hero in all regions at all levels outside the very, very top rated players. We're playtesting him internally at +2 attack and will likely nerf him to that soon (tm).
Quote from Blizzard10. The most powerful hero in all regions at all levels was Tirion. We playtested with his hero power at (2) mana and it felt like too big of a detriment. We also thought about changing the minion pool but opted to take some more time to playtest internally while we deactivate.
They should change Deathwing hero power to all dragons in bob's tavern has +3 attack. Or all dragons have +3 attack cause I get sick and tired of playing against Deathwing.
I play milhouse most of the times I see him. While he's definitely someone you can get a hard 8th with I definitely have more top four finishes with him than not. He's a hero that you have to completely change how you think out your turns and you can end up with a pretty strong board and high health total in the midgame.
The most obvious buff would simply be starting him at 3 gold to better ensure a strong start to make up for his issues late game.
How to solve the DW problem : only give +3 attack to non-token mimions and that’s it.
What about giving Millhouse two extra minion slots? This should be a fair buff.
That's very correct. When you're playing against Deathwing just take the rats and other good token generators and you're set... very easy to beat. I think The only reason he wins at lower ranks is that there is a threshold of the amt of people doing this. If not enough people adjust their play to counter deathwing then he just retains too much health and has too much of an advantage. so only at higher ratings where everyone or nearly everyone is adjusting to a deathwing meta when he's in play does he actually end up losing.
How long will it take you to move Cobalt to tier 4?
I usually see every hero not got 1st. Just because a hero doesn't get 1st every game doesn't mean it is balanced. I don't think I've ever seen Deathwing get less than top 4, which is a problem in my opinion.
Just take rat pack from the pool and deathwing will have a hard time. Rat pack is a very unfunny minion, length the fight time, feels kind of unfair and can get very frustrating killing it and receiving more damage
Beasts as a comp might as well not exist without it though. They would at the very least need to replace it with another beast.
Really, Rat Pack and Infested Wolf should have their tiers switched. Rat Pack scales non-linearly with buffs, unlike most creatures. It's too powerful for tier 2, and Infested Wolf is super lackluster at 3.
He's the best hero for 99.99% of players and the second best for .01%. But since your personal experience is different, he needs no nerf.
Maybe, I find him to be pretty good though, I think people just don't know how to use him.
Apparently it's winnable against Deathwing now (he's not the best at "higher ranks" (whatever that means... I usually see him lose(well not got 1st) at 5900 which is in the top 12%) but once again Blizzard is nerfing for the masses. It would be better if people just learned to play around him.
1. Cobalt being picked most at tier 3 is not a fun fact. It's a blight on the game. The card is too darn good for tier 3, and too easy to build a strat around. Most other builds you need a bit of luck to get better than a mid finish, but Cobalt? It can consistently hit top 2 unless you get the absolute worst rolls.
3. Not surprised Reno performs so poorly. I love him for his high roll factor, but it can't be denied that having no hero power until tier 5 (in most cases) and *then* needing to get a bit lucky is pretty weak on average. There aren't many minions pre-tier 5 worth burning that hero power on.
8. This is a genuine surprise. I guess a free gold per turn (under optimal circumstances) is pretty good in the end. Plus being able to get a roll on tight turns like first and fourth (on six gold for 2 minions) is quite nice. Still very surprising.
9. DW being top for most brackets isn't a surprise. A player shouldn't be able to get a Rat Pack in tier 2 and then power level to 5 or 6 based on that one unit.
Why blizzard isconcentrated more on the BG and leaves the other modes, I tested the BG from the beginning and personally I did not like, the shitty game is diying enove
Maybe you don't know how to play it.
Hearthstone is always to expensive and non new-player friendly. Here's a free game mode that everyone can play without owning any cards besides what is given at the start. They update frequently and it's still not enough. Can't cater to everyone's needs I guess.
Its time to change website name from hearthpwn to hsbgpwn because 99% of HS devs news and changes are for HSBG :D damn I dont play this mode at all lol
don't know why you guys are so angry about it, it's a new game mode and need a lot of testing and balancing, unlike normal HS that has been balancing for years.
i guess you are a rogue or druid player. Enjoy your roguedruid fest.
And understand some people get bored and want to play different.
