Zephrys decision logic will be improved in certain scenarios
There was a disappointing moment in the Masters Tour Arlington tournament, when Zephrys didn't offer a single target removal (Big Game Hunter or Shadow Word: Death) or a board clear (Twisting Nether) against Shirvallah, the Tiger on the board, but instead offered:
1) Pyroblast
2) Faceless Manipulator
3) Mind Control
After a long discussion on Twitter, Celestalon confirmed that there will be a new approach to what Zephrys offers in these situations.
Quote from blizzardWe're going to teach Zephrys that costs over 10 are likely not really indicative of value, in a later patch.
It seriously cares about costs? Why? An 8/8 that costs 4 is the same as an 8/8 that costs "12" and is not the same as an 8/8 that is a base of 2/2 and is currently buffed +6/+6. It should care purely about the stats of the minions and their attached effects.
A 7/5 with lifesteal should considered be a big threat, so it should absolutely offer removal.
The Twitter post literally explains why it cares about cost. A 2/2 with deahtrattle is probably not good if it costs 2 mana but it's probably pretty good if it costs 7.
Why isn't it evaluating the deathrattle? A 2/2 deathrattle that costs 2 is the same threat as a 2/2 deathrattle that costs 6 if they summon the same thing.
He also explains exactly that in the Twitter post, I'm wondering if you're trolling or just too lazy to read.
Saying "Well it thinks a higher cost minion is more valuable" is an explanation of reality, but does not address that it's stupid to do it this way instead of properly evaluating the actual threat of the card. It SHOULD be looking at card text since it's supposed to be looking at the board state.
Even if it's not looking at the card text, it absolutely is looking at the keywords on the cards. The fact that it offered a "lethal next turn" pyroblast is idiotic because Shirvallah has lifesteal on it, so pyroblast is not likely to even be lethal if Shirvallah can heal the player the following turn for significant amounts. It should have accounted for that massive threat potential and granted removal this turn over "kill next turn" especially since there were removal options available in the pool that could be played with the current amount of remaining mana. It should really only offer a "next turn" solution if there are no current turn solutions available at the current mana costs - but it instead offered TWO "next turn" solutions.
It doesn't look at card text because that would require such a FUCKLOAD of development for a single card that it would be nearly impossible and definitely not worth the time.
He once again explained litterally everything else you're adressing in those Twitter posts, so from now on I'm just going to assume you're trolling.
Zephrys definitely needs a buff, I agree.
Zephrys and Zilliax are the two cards needing most buffs.
Not exactly sure why the devs are still updating Zephyrs logic. I mean, that's great and all, but aren't there actual game bugs that need to be fixed?
In 6 years of playing Hearthstone I have rarely, if ever, seen a bug in 'regular' Hearthstone. Maybe some Nozdormu shenanigans at most.
Sure, maybe if they didn't focus on Zephyr's logic they may have not forgotten to add the "Pirate" tag to Risky Skipper.
Or the Login bugs, or the Floating Cards bug, or the 'new cards' collection bugs, or the board clear animation bug, or..... Yup, they've never had any bugs in the game???
Are you playing on PC ? May be it's more stable on PC.
I play on iPhone/iPad and the game was at its most unstable state for me in December/January . I Had several random disconnections either during games or while browsing through my collection. It seems to be fixed during Jannuary cause I don't recall it happening to me recently.
Also the "reconnect" menu that they implemented in case your ipad goes on standby etc was not working for me a few times. I don't know if it has been fixed since then (my last try was succssfull).
Zephrys is the most broken card in HS history. Buffing it makes total sense.
You can also buff Zilliax - the second most broken card - add him reborn.
That was wild lol
Please buff the most broken card in the game. Also, buff Zilliax (the second most - add him reborn)!
GO, GO, YOU CAN DO IT!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
How is he broken? You have to build your whole deck around it
and that's why you should never really trust any algorithm where you don't know exactly how it works and 'thinks'
You mean, like, a human?
The reasoning is pretty damn good given the constraints of not knowing the exact text, strategies of the deck and played cards.
Knowing all the additional stuff lets you infer a lot and it changes your desired cards.
Because it only offers cards from Classic and Basic? Also, to have it attempt to counter specific cards in your opponent's hand or deck would be ridiculous to say the least
Zephrys only makes decisions without regard to what is or may be in either player's hand or deck. He only evaluates the current board state and the health and Mana of each player.
