Peter Whalen just responded to a question on Twitter about if he is still on the Hearthstone Team or not
As you can see in the screenshot picture, he ISN'T on the Hearthstone Team anymore, but he still remains at Blizzard and Is doing something new with Mike Donais.
We can only speculate about what they are working on, but certainly It can't be a shooting game, right? Maybe Hearthstone Vanilla or Hearthstone 2? Time will tell.

Before working at Blizzard, Peter created a wonderful roguelike deckbuilder called Dream Quest. I highly recommend it if you like that sort of thing. My prediction is that Peter and Mike are working on the long-rumored pet battle game that will have tie-ins with WoW and possibly other Blizzard titles.
Given the popularity of roguelikes in recent times (e.g Slay the Spire) and Blizzards usual habit of taking a popular genre, distilling it down to the "fun bits", and releasing a casual-friendly version, and Peter's background in the genre, it really wouldn't surprise me if this 'secret project' was a new roguelike.
Interestingly Blizzard has been experimenting with roguelike elements in WoW with the new Horrific Visions in the Visions of N'Zoth patch and the Tower of the Damned in the upcoming Shadowlands expansion.
He seemed kind of constrained by Hearthstone since he's been working on it for so long, so I'm glad that he's now able to work on something cool with Mike. I hope people don't extrapolate this to mean that the game is dying because it seems like it's doing well, but that seems like the minority opinion.
So, you basically troll the boards of a game that you don't care about? What a fulfilling life you must lead.
who is this guy and who cares?
So who's left on the Hearthstone team?
I hope everything is for good somehow.
Wtf. An official Hearthpwn post shouldn't include silly speculations like Hearthstone 2 or Hearthstone vanilla.
The former would cause them to lose every single customer who payed money on Hearthstone and cause a far worse backlash than Diablo Immortal.
The latter wouldn't even be a new game and I doubt playing with pre-nerfed classic cards is that much fun. Sounds more like Tavern Brawl idea.
So wtf is wrong with Hearthpwn scaring away its users? Not really smart.
Nothing wrong with some speculations, it encourages users in discussions. Hearthstone 2 isn't that silly actually, they could just transfer players collections, like they did with Overwatch 2. Though, I'm more likely to believe they are working on standalone Battlegrounds, current mode is very popular and has alot of limitations within Hearthstone client.
Well I can't speak for every other user, but it seems like a pretty obvious joke to me. Hearthstone 2 = Overwatch 2, Hearthstone Vanilla = Classic WoW.
They're basically taking a jab at how most of Blizzard's 'new' games these days are rehashes of current franchises. Overwatch was the first new thing they had done in ages, and that was what, 4 years ago now?
Shit game play runeterra
hahahaha nice joke worst mechanics i ever seen
sta arxidia mas kai esi pou feugeis
yep this ''dying'' game just crowd funded 1.5 million dollars for master tours
LMAO get lost haters
I could not give less fucks for hs but in the unlikely scenario it dies, it would be sooooo fun reading the comments of blizzard's fanboys. If I have such fun reading the defense comments of the warcraft, imagine the blast reading about the death of hs!
I do not agree that the game is dying, even though I have not enjoyed Standard much beyond a couple weeks into any set in years, and wild is not a lot better. Although I'd love to ladder, I just stop having fun after an hour or two of constructed. But I still enjoy that hour, and especially Arena.
Also, happy for those who enjoy the new game mode. It is not for everyone. I am a deliberate player. In other words, slow. Yeah, I rope a lot, but not to BM, nor can I claim it is to calculate every possible move. I am just indecisive, and often have trouble deciding between all the options. Not everyone who plays and enjoys the game is a genius (obvs). So, Battlegrounds is a TERRIBLE game for someone like me. Hate it. Constantly churn any Battlegrounds quests (wish there was an option in settings to exclude certain categories of quests, like those or Tavern Brawl, which I feel forced to play for the pack, but usually dislike).
Basically, I want to be able to enjoy laddering with my collection. That does not mean wants to win more, I just hate a stale, repetitive meta. There have been very diverse metas for entire seasons in the past, but not too often, and this feels pretty stale to me already. Not sure the adventure will help, but glad to see those. I think tournament mode would be the answer, but feel like they morphed whatever they had into Battlegrounds, which is a fail for me.
Anyway, I dont think HS is dead, but it has issues, for sure. I am definitely spending less money on it now, as that certainly does not help with the enjoyability at all. Still spending a fair amount, but probably 1/3rd less than I used to. When having every card available does nothing to improve your experience, and your most consistent fun is in Arena, well... why spend money? My luck, that will be taken as a reason to mess Arena up next, though.
Hearthstone has been dying already. Hearthstone Battlegrounds is plaguing my youtube subscriptions.
Everyone is leaving, this game is just dying so fast man
After like almost 6! years... And this mode gets even more stale and boring (in MY opinion) then standard play.
Also it is a whole different kinda game... Can't play any of my cards from my collection in this mode.
