Descent of Dragons Meta Decks - The Best of the End of 2019
Today we bring you the best decks to mop up the last of 2019 with (and to start 2020 with too!).
It took a week for the meta to really shift into the new reality, but it's definitely true now: Shaman is no longer the deck to beat nor the deck the meta revolves around.
We saw the beginning of it last week with the surge of Resurrect Priest and it continued from there: The meta has changed and it is MUCH more diverse now, as diverse as we can remember it being in a good while.
The current meta is mostly a question of rock-paper-scissors. You can play any of these decks with much success, but you are going to have weaker match ups, and depending on which decks you run into, you may have to adjust to a deck that beats those decks, especially if your local rank meta is going against the decks you are currently playing.
One thing did not change much yet, it's still a very fast meta. There are signs that change might be coming however, we mentioned Rez Priest, but Handlock is creeping up too. In a diverse meta, you never know what will happen next.
On to the decks!
Do what you want, cause a Pirate is free
If there is anything in this current meta that you could call "the deck to beat" it's probably Pirate Warrior. But even Pirate Warrior has its share of match ups it struggles with.

The New Kid on the Block
One of the decks Pirate Warrior struggles with is Mech Paladin. It goes wide and it buffs itself and it can do amazing 2TKs if you leave the wrong mech on board.

No Fun Police
If the fast decks are working on your nerves, then this is the deck for you. No fun allowed.

Running out of Face Hunters
Galakrond Shaman brought in Face Hunter, which in turn brought in Rez Priest. Both of the former are starting to get lower numbers, which might mean that Rez Priest is going to start suffering soon too.

There must always be....a Zoolock
Harder to eradicate than a cockroach, there's seemingly always a Zoolock deck that's pretty good. That is not changing in this fast meta, that's for sure.

There Can Be Only One (Hunter)!
...and it's not Face Hunter. Face Hunter was the perfect deck against Shaman, but with Shaman numbers thinning Face Hunter became an easy target for all the other decks, which left Secret Highlander Hunter as the only one left standing. *lightning crash*

What better deck to play in the time of christmas trees and faerie lights then a Token Druid deck. Happy Holidays!

nice pack I got for the new year, Good year everyone
Just came to wish you guys happy new year ^.^
May the fun decks be your side -Baby Yoda
Nice diverse meta. The nerfs turned out to be masterful it seems, though Galakrond Shaman probably is better than its current representation. I'm actually enjoying this meta as much as any I can remember.
The balance is surprising considering the power levels. I think the high level leads to getting run over a bit, but then you'll run over opponents some, and there are still plenty of close games. All the while you're making big plays and feeling powerful...and there are several viable decks that feel powerful in very different ways.
Between a fast and slow meta I'll take fast, at least for now. Enough Control Warrior etc. Getting rolled by Pirate Warrior feels much better than getting your soul sucked out by Control Warrior.
I don't see any crying need for nerfs right now. The only thing that really sticks out like a sore thumb is how inferior Priest Galakrond is to other Galakronds. I really hope they will buff/rework this card. I think we all want to be able to do something viable with Priest that doesn't revolve around Quest/Rez, or Combo. We've been waiting a long time already and now for this Galakrond to flop like this is really disappointing. I hope they give us a round of buffs to underplayed cards and focus on Galakrond Priest above all.
Here is proof btw

If no dragon bane or veranus?
didnt catch your question mate.
Here is the full list: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1326351-december-legend-highlander-hunter
It was originally made by kripp, on his very first streams after the expansion launch, not sure if i changed his list. But legend is legend. GL and happy new legendary year!
oh, seems that i got it. You mean if you dont have dragon bane and veranus?
Dragon bane is a very powerful card. It can do 7 face damage alone on the table, it can be magnetized with Zilliax and heal you for 6 HP and it has a pretty good body (3/5 for 4 mana is a very good tempo card).
To decide to swap it for other card you need to know what you are facing most on ladder. If there are a lot rogues with Apothecary, then you easily tech in Spellbreaker. If there are a lot of aggro, then you go for Khartut Defender or Witchwood Grizzly or any heal/taunt card for 4-5 mana. or simply go for Deadly Shot.
Due to image i though it is a post about new nerfs lol.
Nah. We always try to have somewhat relevant Post Images, typically from the latest expansion (since you have seen pics from the older expansions enough when those were active).
In this case with Pirate Warrior being one of the more dominant Meta decks, using Ancharrr seemed a good idea. :)
made It legend today with highlander hunter. I don’t have veranus, so I changed deck a bit:
-veranus
-primordial explorer
-dwarven sharpshooter
-deadly shot
+clear the way
+corrupted guy (5 mana 2x 4/4)
+gryphon (3 mana 4/1)
+dragon bane (catapult 3/5)
strongly recommended deck on EU.
still no one think to make the Mage deck... what is the Mage deck secret this Descent of Dragons? I guess now it is to counter the Meta...
seriously all you do is daily check the top5 decks here till you find a mage deck and then you play Hearthstone again? just go and try some deckbuilding yourself
I just noticed that I have no Mulchmuncher. Why do I not have Mulchmuncher. Did the card receive a nerf and I dusted it? I mean with so many packs opened I should have at least one Mulchmuncher.....
Moment of silence for everyone who disenchanted Force of Nature when Doppelgangster was released.
I remember a time when word "fun" wasnt about playing fast decks.
It's the best card in the deck. it wll lower your win %.
For low dust budget decks - I would go with hunter.
Sorry, but no, it isnt any good without the Anchor. If you wanna play bugdet, go for token druid. The deck is amazing! (if you dont have the Tree guy for 7 mana, go with another Power of the wild or Tree Speaker
is pirate warrior any good without Anchaar?? i don't have it and i can't craft it :(
this weapon is so fking awsome
building pirate without it is like building malygos deck without malygos
The deck doesn’t really work without it. It makes sense why you might want to build it but just make sure you have an Ancharrrr or 1600 dust
edit: I said that horribly. Basically, if you draw it within your first 4 turns, your win percentage goes up about 20% and if you can hoard pillager it, another 5%. The main problem with the deck is that you do run out of cards fairly fast so you do need ways to reload like Ancharrr and Livewire Lance.
