Descent of Dragons Meta Decks - The Best Ladder Decks
Let's just start with the obvious: in a few days this line up of decks might all be nerfed and invalidated. But we don't know when exactly this will happen and we don't know which cards will be affected and which decks. With this uncertainty we decided to go ahead with our previously made plans and present you with what's best RIGHT NOW, regardless of what might happen later. When time comes, we'll do a new Meta Decks post, but this one will work for now. Enjoy!
The Top Of The Mountain
For the time being Shaman will be the top dog, so if you had plans to ladder with a broken deck, now's the time to do it. I would advize against crafting anything for the deck however, with the nerfs coming. Dust refunds are nice and all, but not every card gets refunded and historically speaking, Blizzard has a tendency to swing from one outlier to the opposite end of the spectrum. It's a pretty good bet that Shaman will not be that good soon.

The Mountain Climbers
For every amazing Meta Deck there's a counter deck, even Shaman. In this case Shaman has a bad win rate against Holy Wrath Paladin (largely unchanged from SoU, but kind of bad in general) and is pretty evenly matched with Quest Hunter (and evenly matched is about as good as it gets against Shaman).

The Sonic Decks - Gotta Go Fast
If control matchups bore you or if your approach to laddering is to just have a higher quantity of games to make the climb faster, then these decks are right up your alley. They need little explanation, as both are old archetypes with some new tricks: Pirate Warrior and Zoolock

There Can Be Only...two?!
Highlander decks remain a popular archetype, in this case in a Secret Hunter version and a Dragon Mage version. Arrows or Fireballs, time to pick your projectile of choice.

At The End, There Is Only Death
We'll bookend the Galakrond Shaman at the start with a Deathrattle Galakrond Rogue at the end. If Shaman does indeed get whacked with the nerfbat in a serious way, then this deck might be the one to try to rise in it's place. The deck struggles against faster decks, but does well against most everything else.

and prieeeeest?????
combo bro, 2x hot air balloon for extra arms and prob 1 wild pyro, been a very fast ladder climb, wrecking everything meta has to offer atm, from r5 to r2 in an afternoon, picking it up tomorrow
Combo Priest
have fun with it
The priest deck from that list is the best.
People are sleeping on Shaman's new aggro tools due to how overpowered Galakrond is, but once Galakrond nerfs happen, I hope people who still want to play Shaman will notice how crazy aggro shaman can be.
I made this bad boy on a whim so I could finish up my 1000 wins for my new hero portrait, and it's nuts. Squallhunter in particular is crazy, which is helped by him showing up roughly 1/3 of the time in Draconic Lackey discovers.
Aggro shaman will be tier 1 once nerfs hit. How people can downvote you is beyond me.
just standard again :(
I tried this pirate warrior. This deck is very strange for an aggro deck. You only have 6 cards to play on turn 1 (excluding Upgrade!). And 4 2-mana cards Bloodsail Raider and Parachute Brigand and none of them you want to play on turn 2 because of battlecry wasted or brigand effect wasted.
And if you didn't draw any weapon by turn 3 just give up.
Been working this deck since release. I would have to concur. Has a rough opening hand often.
Fuck the Priests, I don't know why but I hated priests with a passion ever since the beta.
its so sad that there is no viable deck for priest. blizzard should do something about it. every expantionthey keep printing useless cards and fillers for priest.

Combo Priest
Been playing only highlander hunter, it's a ton of fun and in my experience handles shaman quite well (saving the Veranus and Unleash the hound combo to deal with the 8/8s usually seals the deal, IF they even get there. Most times they are forced to use Galakrond early to survive, which seals their fate even faster)
LOL, all my friends say they see shaman over 50% of the time, some of them 75%. It's not unusual to get shaman 5-10 times in a row.
It's funny, last friday I saw Galakrond shamans literally 20 games in row. Today I only saw Holy Wrath Paladins, Highlander Hunters, Deathrattle Rogues and a single Galakrond Shaman.
Maybe they all moved to higher rankings while I was taking a three day break? :D
Can someone explain the elven archer in holy wrath paladin? Thank you!
I am pretty sure its in there for Crystology
Holy Wrath (25 dam, 5 mana) + True Silver Champion (4 dam, 4 mana) + Elven Archer (1 dam, 1 mana)
= 30 damage (10 mana)
Don’t forget that you have to use baleful banker before holy wrath so in order to do this you need to equip the weapon in the previous turn
Or put two (or more) copies in the previous turn, but yeah..
All the reasons I can think of (some of them already mentioned above):
You can use it by itself for removal, combo it with Equality, or with Bloodmage Thalnos and Acolyte of Pain for draw. It's cheap and makes your Crystology a bit more consistent (because you're increasing the pool).
Also, if you have Truesilver Champion equipped, you can do exactly 30 damage with Holy Wrath + Truesilver Champion + Elven Archer
It's not the best card in the deck but still useful. People already used it in OTK paladin before this expansion.
