Doom in the Tomb!
Spooky Scary Skeletons! Blizzard today announced the new Hallow's End Event: Doom in the Tomb. This event will run from 8th till 30th October and with it we will see the return of 23 cards from the Wild format back to Standard untill the next Major Update! As well as several new Tavern Brawls with Golden Card rewards, Quest and log in rewards, as well as some new Bundles on the store. To top it off there's also going to be a new Arena rotation!
Update: The community manager for Hearthstone has said on Twitter that the Wild cards will stay in Standard for 2 months! This would take us to early December, which is also the likely release date for the next expansion, which we assume will be revealed at Blizzcon on Nov 1st.
Check out the details and the introduction video below:
Quote from BlizzardLegends have told of dangers lurking within the Haunted Temple of Uldum and the grand ancient treasures they conceal. Of course, “treasure” was all anyone had to mention to get Reno and Rafaam on board, and now their sights are set on acquiring the temple’s powerful artifacts for their own campaigns!
It won’t be an easy task, though. While our Heroes and Villains battle to push deeper through the Haunted Temple, the Headless Horseman has resorted to a nefarious contingency and opened a sealed sarcophagus full of WILD terrors. Now it will be up to you to aid the conquests of good, or E.V.I.L, in a race to uncover the tomb’s precious secrets and escape the doom in the tomb!
Step into the Haunted Tomb
The spooky spelunking adventures begin at 10:00 AM PT on October 8 and end at 9:00 AM PT on October 30 – three weeks packed full of new activities to participate in:
Unique Tavern Brawls
- Week 1: Doom in the Tomb, Part 1
- Gear up with your favorite member from the League of E.V.I.L and delve into the Haunted Temple, full of the baddest bosses in Uldum! The clock is running, too – race to set the record for the fastest Temple run!
- Rewards
- Complete a run in under 1 hour and earn a Rastakhan’s Rumble Card Pack.
- Complete a run in under 40 minutes to earn a Golden Common Ancient Mysteries!
- Week 2: Doom in the Tomb, Part 2
- E.V.I.L has their turn, and now it’s up to Reno and the League of Explorers to join the run and flex their Temple diving speed. New enemies and challenges await!
- Rewards
- Complete a run in under 1 hour and receive a Golden Common Temple Berserker
- Complete a run in under 40 minutes to earn a Golden Rare Generous Mummy
- Week 3: The Haunted Carousel
- Get ready for the big mix-up! In this Tavern Brawl, you’ll need to strategize around minions constantly rotating board positions – all while controlling the Horseman’s time-shifted Dreadsteeds!
- Rewards
- Summon 100 Dreadsteeds to earn a Rise of Shadows Card Pack
Treasures from the Tomb!
23 cards from across Hearthstone history have been unsealed from Wild and unleashed by the Headless Horseman! Until our next major update, these cards are stepping out of Wild and will be playable in Standard matches. To ensure that everyone can participate in this meta-mixing event, we’ll be granting everyone free copies of each card (these copies cannot be disenchanted or crafted) so they can add these heavy-hitters to their decks and get straight into the action.
These cards will be considered "event" cards, which essentially means that they're temporary copies and not permanent additions to your collection. Even if you already own the cards, you'll still receive these event copies. When the event ends they'll disappear, just like the Headless Horseman himself!

Dual-Class Arenas
The Dual-Class Arena Hallow’s End dress-up party is back! When you start an Arena run during the Doom in the Tomb event, you’ll choose a Hero, then a Hero Power, and card offerings will feature cards from BOTH of those classes, in addition to neutral cards.
- Players who have an active Arena run when this begins will have their current run ended and will receive an Arena Ticket as compensation.
- To ensure that players have a chance to try out this devilish dual-class deck-building dress-up party, weeks 1 and 2 of this event will award Arena Tickets on login!
- This event will also coincide with our normal Arena rotation. The new Arena sets in rotation will be as follows:
- Curse of Naxxramas
- Goblins vs. Gnomes
- Blackrock Mountain
- The Grand Tournament
- League of Explorers
- Whispers of the Old Gods
- One Night in Karazhan
- Mean Streets of Gadgetzan
- Journey to Un'Goro

Hex & Flex Bundles

- If you thought the League of E.V.I.L. was securely under wraps, think again! Arch-Villain Rafaam has leveraged his lackeys and put together the Hex Bundle, 20 Rise of Shadows card packs and a random Rise of Shadows Legendary card at the discounted price of $19.99 USD.
- Flex Bundle:
- Reno’s vest just doesn’t have room for bulging biceps AND stacks of card packs. That’s why he’s whipped together the Flex Bundle! Get 20 Saviors of Uldum packs and a random Saviors of Uldum Legendary card at the discounted price of $19.99 USD.
Legendary Quests and Login Rewards
- Begin your Quest:
- A new Legendary Doom in the Tomb quest* will be unlocked at the start of each week during the event, in addition to your normal daily quests. These new quests will reward you with either card packs from one of the current standard sets, or a hefty sum of Gold!
- * Legendary quests will replace an existing normal quest if your quest log is full, so we recommend that you have a spot open when this event goes live.

- 2 Saviors of Uldum packs
- 2 Rise of Shadows packs
- 1 Rastakhan’s Rumble pack
Good luck, Heroes. Try not to lose your heads!
Yeah when i read the text there wasn't any clarification yet then i saw the tweet i came here immediately to post it in case anyone had get it wrong as i did and didn't saw it was updated.
Ok that is good to know, thanks for the info.
Didn't Sylvanis and Ragnaros get HoF'd because they were cancer cards that fit in just about every deck?
Kind of...
But they are probably not that strong on this meta... they will play maaaybe on 1 or 2 decks. HS has changed a lot. You can see Dr.Boom that was played on every single deck back then, and now no deck of wild play it (even tier3 decks don't).
I am fine with sylvanas and ragnaros returning.
It's not only about being able to fit into every deck; it's also the fact that these cards had been around since launch -- and present in many, many meta decks -- which meant people were getting sick of seeing them.
At this point, no one is sick of seeing them in Standard, so there's no harm in bringing them back for a few weeks to see how they interact with the current Standard set.
I'd be very cautious about saying that Sylvanas would not be strong in this meta. She was played in almost every single deck imaginable, and there is enough cards in Standard to make Deathrattle Priest a thing in Standard, with the Quest to help buoy it. Cairne only sees the play it does now because it was the same mana cost as Sylvanas.
Just fyi. The wild cards will NOT rotate after the event!!
No, you are right. Community manager for HS has just confirmed on Twitter that they will remain in Standard for 2 months, which takes us to early December, which is the likely release time for the next expansion. We added this clarification to the news post too.

DEFEAT WITH A FLEX!

I guess it's not the end of the world, but it feels a little like saving face for stale play. I've played since before Wild and Standard were even a thing, and when they implemented it, it was great. What's more important is that they always stuck to their guns no matter what. Cards got nerfed, maybe even halled, but they never just randomly did things like this out of thin air. Sorta like getting rid of Odd/Even stuff a year early. I see the reasoning behind the moves, but you made your bed and you must lie in it. They've got intel on three sets into the future, this shouldn't need to happen to begin with. Like I said, not the end of the world, but kind of a bummer.
Blizzard responds to player concerns by implementing small, interesting changes to the meta between sets ... and STILL people like you come out of the woodwork to shit on every move they make.
"You made your bed and must lie in it"? Really? The greatest strength of digital card games is that you don't have to live with your mistakes -- or force your players to live with them.
Are you saying they should have left Genn and Baku in Standard on principle, even though those cards were destroying the game and driving away business? Or that Blizzard should "stick to their guns" and never make any changes to Standard outside the three-expansion-per-year schedule?
Unbelievable.
WHO AM I?

NONE OF YOUR BUSINES
Oh no Flamewaker is back, Tempo Mages back again ...
Indeed, Quest Mage is gonna be sick.
So can we get both bundles? i think they would like more money so i dont really believe it but could be only one for a som on theme reasonning
Of course they want you to buy both bundles. They are for different sets.
Even when they offer two bundles of the same set of a new expansion, they let you buy both. They want you to buy both. They are thrilled if you buy both.
Ohh dude i didnt expect Mysterious challenger, so excited for standard for the first time in 15 months,
Btw what about the new portraits?
what? why would u do that?
r/woosh
Well this is honestly beautiful!!! Nostalgia!!! And will shake the meta really nice. Emperor Thaurissan in standard lol, that will make highlander decks even better. Imagine dropping a 0 mana zephrys with a whole 10 mana option same turn.
Nzoth is bad ass!!!! Let’s see what happens
