Grandmasters Week 4 Preview

Week 4 of the Hearthstone Grandmasters starts tomorrow. The top 48 players in the world -- 16 from each region -- compete weekly; with the top 4 from each region advancing to the playoff portion of the event. The top player from each region will join the Season 1 winners, plus two Gold Series Champions from China to crown this year's Hearthstone World Champion at Blizzcon!

After three weeks of action, the standings are still tightly contested. As we progress through the coming weeks it will be interesting to see if anyone can pull away from the rest of the pack in their region. As things stand right now, many players in each region are still very much in the running to be in the top 4 and advance to the Global Finals. It's worth noting that the recently announced changes to the Discover mechanic could have a slight effect on the tournament meta.

  • One undefeated player remains, and to nobody's surprise it's none other than Hunterace.
  • Fenomeno has yet to notch a win this season. However, keep in mind he already qualified for the Global Finals in Season 1.

Featured Match-ups

We've chosen one must watch match-up from each region this week. While the weekend is sure to be packed with action, these are the matches you'll definitely want to make time for! We'll link VODs of each of the three match-ups when the weekend concludes.

Gallon vs. Firebat - Sunday - 4:00pm PT/7:00pm ET/11:00pm GMT/1:00am CEST

Two good friends square off in our first featured match-up. You can often find Gallon and Firebat streaming together with the likes of Zalae, Purple, and others. Gallon recently finished 2nd in the Masters Tour: Las Vegas event, while Firebat is Hearthstone's first ever World Champion. 

Hunterace vs. Thijs - Sunday - 12:00pm PT/3:00pm ET/7:00pm GMT/9:00pm CEST

Two of the most popular players in Hearthstone square off! Hunterace is the defending World Champion and arguably on one of the biggest hot streaks in the history of the game. While Thijs is a top ladder grinder and streamer, not to mention one of the top money earners of all time.

SamuelTsao vs. Shaxy - Saturday - 9:00am PT/12:00pm ET/4:00pm GMT/6:00pm CEST

Two powerhouses from the Asia-Pacific region meet this week. SamuelTsao is a consistent tournament player, having finished 2nd at HCT Seoul, only losing in the finals to Hunterace. Shaxy is another well known competitor who finished 3rd in season 1 of the Grandmasters and is currently 2nd this season.

Seiko is currently studying math in Berlin. In fact, he was introduced to Hearthstone by a fellow student after a homework group nearly four years ago. Last year, Seiko traveled the world in his (successful) pursuit for Hearthstone Competitive Points and competed in the Hearthstone Global Games on behalf of Germany. Seiko also finished as runner-up in the Europe Grandmasters Season 1 Playoffs.
