Zephrys Fixes Revealed.
Celestalon, Developer on Team 5 for Hearthstone, recently went on the Angry Chicken Podcast to speak about Zephrys the Great. Not only did he have a lot of interesting things to say about how the card came to be and the inner workings, but he also shared a few things about upcoming fixes. With the Balance Changes coming next Monday, August 26th there are going to be several fixes to Zephrys as well. He has learned how to better deal with Weapons and Hero Powers and several cards that were not showing up in specific situations will do so now.
Celestalon's comments about the Zephrys changes start at 5:33 in the full podcast linked below, for those wanting to hear them from the man himself, but here's the bullet points we've summarized:
- They are smartening Zephrys the Great up in a few different ways.
- He's getting way smarter on the Weapon Removal. Give him 2 mana leftover and the opponent has a weapon, he'll probably offer you Acidic Swamp Ooze now.
- The Weapon Removal was supposed to work that way already, there were just bugs involved.
- He knows that he should get rid of 0 attack weapons now.
- There were a bunch of cards that were not offered in the appropriate situation, like Holy Fire, Avenging Wrath, Bloodsail Corsair
- There's quite a few cards that are fixed that will get offered now when the time is right. They still won't be super common.
- Zephrys is a little bit more interested in board control now.
Near the end of the podcast, during the viewer questions segment, Celestalon also hints that there might be a Tavern Brawl coming, based on the technology that makes Zephrys work!
Here's the podcast in full. It's definitely worth watch/listen, as Celestalon goes into detail about the creation process of the card in ways that had not been revealed before.
He needs to offer mass dispel more often. Deathrattle hunter and token druid has been a headhache for me because he is not offering mass disspel.
I think this card is cancer. It's a get out of jail free card, which we saw disappear with death knights rotating ("I sure miss almost winning and mage healing to full hp for the next few turns!"-No one).
Feels cheap pulling lethal or a board clear off this thing.
But that's the point. If it was average, there would be no point in running highlander decks.
Please stop offering me that neutral 4 mana minion that destroy secrets... ALL I WANT WHEN MY OPPONENT HAS A CHRISTMAS TREE IS A FLARE
You just need to make sure you have 2 mana left before playing Zeprhyr, then he'll always prioritize flare before the 4 cost minion.
Flare would be useless if there is a counterspell on this cristmas tree and you don't have mana to cast another spell before flare.
I swear I once had 2 mana against a Hunter and zephyrs offered me that 4 mana minion
I play Mage and never get a polymorph on turn 6 and my enemy has a big minion like Kel'thuzad.
Why give the opponent a 1/1 when you can just kill the minion outright with Shadow Word: Death ? That's what Zephrys thinks at least...He doesn't know that the Big Priest opponent will probably ress it infinitely if not transformed.
Because is still and answer, is not like zephyr never offered multiple approaches to answer the same minion or board state
What bothers me is it'll offer a removal instead of hex against deathrattle minions.. zeph doesn't know big priest will resurrect stuff, but it should at least know how a deathrattle works.
Weird thing is. A Shaman got Hex from him but I don't get Polymorph....... Why is that?
That was my question. Cool!
