This week's brawl is Your Standard Brawliseum
Rules:
Welcome back gladiator! Build a deck for Standard format this time and compete for glorious prizes!
This Brawl is much like an Arena run, where every loss gets counted and after your 3rd loss your deck is retired, but every win gets you better rewards, up to 12 wins.
Entry Fee:
The first entry is FREE! Further entries cost only 150 gold this time instead of the usual 1000 gold in the Heroic Brawl.
Reward:
Different rewards for different scores. An 0-3 score will only get you a very small reward. A 12 win run will get you a massive chest of rewards.
Have a really strong deck for this Brawl? Build it in our Deckbuilder and add a good guide, then mark it as a Tavern Brawl deck for the current Brawl while saving and share it with the world!
I'm starting to think maybe the Quest Priests you've played against weren't that good if they can't stick a single minion by Turn 3. If they can (and they should) then clearing isn't that hard. Even a simple Northshire Cleric can trade up vs a 5/5 with double buffed Extra Arms. Now, the priest might not always have extra arms but I'd argue it's about as common as the 3/3 5/5 situation, if not moreso, since extra arms can hit any minion. So, you saying I didn't come across any good zoo with reasonable draw is just as meaningful/meaningless as me pointing out that you haven't played against any good quest priests with reasonable draw.
Maybe you're playing a better zoo/lackey deck than they were. Maybe not. Not sure how bad they could have been to get that high during the brawl. But, the situation you're describing, it's not as unmanageable as you're making it sound.
You might be right, they might not have been good since it's week 1 of the expansion and decks are still being refined well into 2 months after an expansion is out (and yes, that's the exact same thing I'm saying about Zoo as well). I'm by no means claiming mine is the best Zoo deck, it's just been working pretty well and I know how to pilot it since I've been playing Zoo quite a lot in general, and I've seen numerous people run it badly, since at different points in time it was actually pretty easy to still rack up wins with it while playing it wrong (until you get to actually high levels).
What I'm saying is, your deck has quite a few new cards (as does mine), but your Northshire Cleric + Extra Arms combo has existed for some time now and Priest still has not been played. Granted, Zoo wasn't played either, but at the very least my deck relies heavily on cards that are not easy to deal with as soon as I usually get them, which Zoo lacked.
All I'm saying is your deck might be favoured against Zoo, and the players you played might be masters of Zoo and you're just that much better than them and me and everyone, but there are plenty of other variables. It might be the Priests playing removal against me have it all wrong as well, and Zoo might vanish into thin air if more people started playing your deck. Or vice versa.
My (extremely) small sample size showed me the obelisk is not something so terrifying because if you get to it and I'm not well ahead, I'm losing already. On the other hand, I've had one Priest heal up to 24 with quite some power on the board only for me to kill him a turn after. Clearly he was running a very different deck than you and I only won after using a full hand of legendaries Rafaam got me, but I guess we'll see in the coming months.
I can understand this brawl is not for everyone (me included), but what I don't understand is why this has to be a brawl and not it's own game mode like Arena.
I think that's a business decision, the fact it's the very first brawl after the expansion launch makes it pretty likely. They want people to experiment with new cards as much as humanly possible, and while ladder looks like plenty of people are already, they want to take it a step further.
Also, considering a painfully average player like myself can get at least 3 wins, it's a great way to get packs (+ a bit extra) for some people who do not pay for the game. If it's like arena, even no wins at all are slightly above a pack's worth, so I'm ok with that, even if I'm not likely to pay for an extra fee if and when I lose (same as arena, I haven't paid for a ticket for literally years now).
"Oh boy I cannot wait to see new tavern brawl to take a break from ladder..." *sees Hearthpwn's article about brawlseum* "I mean... new arena rotation also seems fun!"
shitty company being shitty company, it's been the what time now,
Well, I just went 12 wins with my Quest Priest and for my rewards, I got 450 gold and 2 packs. It's literally nothing more than standard arena with custom made decks. I might keep playing it cause I was stomping face but I was really hoping for my 3 golden legendaries 50+ pack reward. But, not this time. Oh well.
May i see your list
No you didn't
Yes, I did.
Here, I clipped the non-blurred deck list and placed it next to the blurred version for comparison's sake.
Guess you were pretty lucky not to meet any Zoo.
This deck is focusing exclusively on getting the usual Inner Fire combo to work, but without any board clears, single target removal etc. It's very weak to most of what you're facing (spam/zoo decks, aggro, highlander, quite a few midrange, even control). You're just sitting there hoping to get the combo pieces as soon as you can - and complete the quest if you're lucky - while you're being literally rofl-stomped by the previous examples (and more). More power to you if you really got 12 wins with it, but apart from hoping to get crazy lucky I see no reason whatsoever to suggest it for the brawl or for any kind of serious play.
Those were my thoughts exactly, and yet I never matched against this kind of priest and missing too many cards to even consider playing it, and he claims he beat quite a few 8+ win Zoos... <shrug>
Golden legendaries and 50 packs were in HEROIC brawliseum i guess and it was like only one or two times :(
I tried it myself and its numerous flaws are more than obvious. If someone REALLY wants to play that sort of deck with the quest minion buff/Inner fire/Topsy turvy combos, there are far better alternatives such as for example this: https://hsreplay.net/decks/HtL45zdK6nR0YJyV2o4EQh/#gameType=RANKED_STANDARD It's still very weak in most matchups but at least it has some sort of control versus most of the other decks that rofl-stomp you. However, other choices such as a simple Zoo are a gazillion times more efficient (at the moment I am at 80% wins with 12-3 with a lackey sort-of-homebrew I am trying) and also dust-cheaper.
You dont use the innkeeper?
I hate that they always do these brawliseums either before or after an expansion releases. It feels like such a blatant attempt to rip off some more money.
usual 1000 gold entry?? that happened like one time
Well, that's the point, to push the most of what you have.
I also don't have many of the new cards but still enjoying this brawl so far trying to figure out how to get the most out of it with a limited collection.
Personally, I see some reasoning in OP's words, don't think it's fair to downvote him straight away.
