It's meant for wild like most of the cards in this set are. There's no new deck that can be built around these cards in standard.
First of all, that's quite presumptous to say that after 48 cards (one third) of the expansion were revealed thus far.
That's doubly presumptous if you think back on how highly Blizzard regards wild (which is to say, not at all, they coudln't care less, you only have to see the many many nerfs Barnes got since he came out)
There are already quite a few very powerful cards that will either strengthen existing decks or offer new strategies. They may not have as big an impact as RoS since it was the very first expansion after rotation and thus had to be insane, but I can see many of these cards played in standard.
The last time Blizzard pushed highlander decks they were a thing. Last time they pushed even/odd decks they ruled the standard meta to a point they had to take those cards out prematurely. I believe in their abulity, not to mention the community's far greater ability to change the meta because new cards are out.
Highlander decks existed back then because RENO fundamentally reset the game for the player. None of these cards do anything like that and the power level of those cards is marginally at best. They do however compliment exist wild decks and help that format significantly. Nothing we have seen shows any reason to play a highlander deck at all. Making existing top tier decks in standard doesn't "change" the meta.
Secret Mage will conquer Wild, mark my words
So in wild this can single handedly pretty much kill odd paladin, murloc shaman, aggro mech hunter and aggro cyclone mage to name a few. My only worry is all those decks are good against big priest :/
This combined with the 4/4 deal 6 might just make aggro secret mage or reno mage the strongest deck in wild!!
Wild meta definitely going to change a lot just because of these two cards, nice :)
Actually this card won't work particularly well against an Odd Paly that has Never Surrender up. And it is silly to put it into a singleton deck, because the chances of you getting a combo off with one of's.
This would still be good in a Singleton deck if it runs many secrets.
But Reno Mage doesn't. Mage Secrets are very weak unless you can cheat them. Reno Mage can't afford the whole engine behind that, especially with the No Duplicates condition.
Reno Mage I think Runs Barrier and Block, and it might run either Counterspell, Polymorph or Duplicate, but that's it.
I think the New Reno Mage will experiment with Big Spell Synergies since that is a theme of the new exp, and it also has Inkmaster Zolia.
Very good, but dealing damage for several turns with this consumes a fair share of certain (proactive) cards you need to have in your hand or draw them appropriately. Not as OP as it seems imo, but definitely a good card for control mage.
They don't run very many secrets. It also takes 5 mana to deal 2 damage to all enemy minions.
Dragon's Breath is a vastly superior option for that.
I think this is a good midrange secret-deck card, one that will beat aggro on the board with AOE, but burn out the opponent with burn and its secret synergy.
Something like:
well, as some people say, it's true this card is kinda OP, but remember mages lost meteor and dragon's breath at the same time last expansion, some kind of aoe to replace them is very welcome :D
I imagine this will help control mages in Wild
Absurdly OP
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH ROFL
Ok, their balance team is having fun with some stuff, its July after all.
This card will be instantly nerfed upon release.
Solid card. Either you play this on curve and if it survives you can follow it with a secret, or you play it on turn 5 together with a secret. Both are pretty good options. Not an unfair card (like some others we've already seen), just powerful with the downside of either having to wait till turn 5 to play it, or risking losing the minion before playing the secret.
Please give mage more secrets, thats all i ask for xmas ;)
Kind of the expansion of "Hey you like playing that silly archetype, here's a rediculously powerful card that makes it actually work" Bloodsworn Mercenary etc. Don't hate it but man the power level of some of these cards is off the charts.
They are trying to push 'arcane' secret highlander mage i think. Secrets fit highlander nicely.
Hopefully we will get a new secret as well.
Saviors of Wild
I can already see it, "ORDER."
