I've got a feeling that this power will be really good by end of reveals even in the current meta it's not terrible.
I think in Wild this will be played in a new Reno Mage that replaces Frost Lich Jaina and the Elemental package (Pyros, Baron Geddon) for Inkmaster Solia and other spell synergy cards. Will it be good? Don't think so, Frost Lich Jaina is too important for keeping you alive as Mage has few defensive tools. But it will be fun for sure!
"so after much debate here at blizzard, we decided to not only make yogg-sarron part of the classic set, we'll also be giving every class their own little version of yogg-sarron"
Mage class for the last year+ : "random random random random random"
Yeha, we can definitely make plays with heavey rng on the cards. Seems legit.
That's the flavor of Hearthstone itself - being bullshit RNG game for 6 yo kids
bro im 7
Bored
Compared to the other new quest cards, this is actually really strong. It has an infinite value effect that can win you the control match ups and it really easy to complete. It's not a win condition on its own, but with the right support it may make control mage very powerful.
As for wild: too slow, doesn't win at turn 10.
*Doesn't win by turn 10*
You mean turn 5? Talking about Wild right?
Sure, why bother coming up with interesting design and thoughtful mechanics when you can just slap ''add random stuff'' to a card and call it a day?
Another stupid RNG card for mage but at least it looks balanced + no more ping.
Yes, it is a bit RNG, but honestly it looks more like balance to DK Rexar. When we could discover zomby beast it was too over power, to receive exactly what we want. Imagine if this was discover mage spell. Actually for me the problem is not that it is random, but that it gives mage infinity value. The fact that it is random spell, make it at least not that OP. On other hand, how quick is to play 10 spells? I dont know, we will see. But quest reward is good for sure.
I'm not saying it's "great", or that you "should", but:
This quest reward will actually allow you to complete Open the Waygate without needing to put any "Add a random quest" cards in your deck.
You can add both quests and just mulligan away the second one until later.
Now just need to figure out if that helps or makes it worse... :-)
For TTK mage for sure this is slow I think :). You will not have enough freeze and control over the board in my opinion. There are much better build which work quicker. But on other hand if this is just as additional win condition/resouce it is good idea.
You can already easily complete old quest without any "add random spells" cards. There are plenty of cards now in wild that add specific spells in your hand (or allow you to discover which is as good or better than a specific card). I don't see this card to be problematic with the other quest. It's already so easy to complete the quest by turn 10 + have your deck thinned enough to reach your win condition.
Open the Waygate is a combo card.
This is a control-value card.
I don't expect to see both in the same deck.
Okay people are calling this card trash yet mage can easily trigger the reward and cards like hagatha are super strong and you don’t even need to have a minion in hand for this to get you a spell and you can stack up discounted spells for specific turns later on.. if we see some more control focused cards this card is scary good
Indeed! You can definitely not call this a bad card! It has insane value and will be a major factor against other control decks. The main question is whether this is enough to make control mage happen. Obviously it doesn't fit in the current midrange conjurer's calling mage decks, but I wouldn't be surprised to see both styles combined into a hybrid midragne/control deck like bomb/control warrior did.
Big restriction but cool stuff. Interestingly, wouldn't be the craziest thing to see both quests together in wild (this alone would activate the second; just screws up your mulligans because you're always shipping the second quest away - assuming you can only have one quest active at a time, which seems logical).
just another upgrade for giant mage LOL
