So happy for Dog! Finally got his 1 place, well deserved :)
he didnt get punished for his wrong deck decision. Thats not well deserved dude.
I hope they will rethink the format, it hurts to watch this for some reason.
Agreed. This was one of the driest tournaments I've watched. I was once excited for a specialist format. Now I prefer the old way with multiple decks and the ability to ban one of them. This tournament reminds me of why I got bored with MtG. back in the day. All the mirrors.
Seems like that's what they want. A format that is very much like MTG and one that is easier for new players to think they have a chance since it's just one class. Unfortunately by doing so they essentially have now ignored a good 50%+ of the classes in HS. A better format would be to bring all 9 classes and make them draft and ban. Skill in multiple classes over one is vastly more entertaining to watch.
Shoutout to Neirea bringing rogue 🖤
That clearly shows you haven't even watched it. Top 8 had 2 warriors, and the match between them showed being the agressor is the way to win those mirrors.
Warriors in general were bomb warriors and not control ones, and several didn't even have Archivist Elysiana in their primary deck.
This tournament makes me question the deck tracker sites. The numbers would tell you that Mech Hunter should have been a dominant deck type to play. The numbers show high win rates vs. both Warrior and Mage classes, and all but one Rogue arch type. Is hunter so limited that it doesn't have have better secondary and tertiary options than those other classes?
You should NEVER believe deck tracker sites when it comes to stats, even with a premium account it's not that relevant.
All you can tell from them is : what deck is the easiest to play? Hunter bomb is easy to play therefore on top of the list, cyclone mage is hard to play, so it's behind in their list. Simple as that. That's why the aggro decks are always on top of their list whatever the meta.
If you want relevant info you can google vicious syndicate, and read their meta analysis or just check what decks are played in the top 50 legend. From what I saw you see almost no hunter in these ranks, which are mostly made of rogues mage and warriors.
Last, decks like mech hunter are super easy to counter in a secondary deck, 3-4 tech cards will totally annihilate its power.
Yeah, this tournament has shown me as much. I'll have to give vicious syndicate a look. Never heard of it.
Tournament meta =/= Ladder meta. That is always the case.
It's especially noticeable when decks that are hard to play are the best. Back when patron warrior was best, it had well below 50% win rate, because people played it at ranks 20-15 just as much as higher ranks, but played it poorly.
they do really good meta reports. using deck tracker data.
thing is, they way deck tracker data is presented e.g. on hsreplay, is simply only part of the truth and should be looked at with the right set of skills.
also, tournament decks and ladder decks are a bit different. not much, but still, there's a difference: not all tournament decks are good on ladder.
Its so boring to watch :(
This is the worst hs tournament I've ever seen, they thought this was gonna be like mtg??
I am thoroughly disappointed. Both in the game and the players. Does anyone WANT to see Warrior mirrors? The most boring HS event I’ve watched. Thanks for the 2 packs though, that was the only way to get people interested imo.
I knew mage was going to be cancer when blizz revealed Khadger. No one likes having to deal with cheating out mana, yet that's mage's current meta. Not to mention that 4+ board freezes in the deck. So much fun watching these mirror matches where they rope, freeze, rope, freeze, repeat till both players are out of freezes.
8 decks, 5 of them mages. Now we know what card is gonna get nerfed xd
It's extremely meta dependent : if people had not brought so many warriors, would the success of mage decks be so huge?
Specilalist is very rock scissor paper like : if you find the deck that counters the deck 40% of the players have, you will be in a good spot.
Also how big was the battlefy fiasco's impact on this? can't help but wonder about its consequences.
Why so less players play Shaman? :(
Wirer had good result, though.
But yes specialist format + pro player being (rightly so) conservative in their choice = 3-4 decks played in tournaments, at most.
