Reckless Experimenter Nerf Coming June 3
Reckless Experimenter will be receiving a change in the upcoming card buff patch on June 3rd. Blizzard did not originally realize that SN1P-SN4P had a negative interaction with the card. See the card and text change below.
Added Text: "Cost can't be reduced below 1"
The card will be disenchantable for full value starting June 3, after the patch releases. Bravo for the quick fix, Blizzard!
Quote from Chris SierraHey Folks,
After the announcement of the Rise of the Mech update, we became aware of an interaction between SN1P-SN4P and Reckless Experimenter that allows for an early-game infinite damage combo in Priest. As a result of this, we’ve opted to make a change to Reckless Experimenter to go along with the 14.4 patch (scheduled to release June 3) so this combo is no longer possible. We’re also aware of some interactions that SN1P-SN4P creates in Wild when played alongside multiple copies of Mechwarper. We’ll be keeping a close eye on how that plays out over the following weeks. Here is how the card now reads (updated card asset here):
Reckless Experimenter – Deathrattle minions you play cost (3) less, but die at end of turn. (Cost can’t be reduced below 1.)
Once the change to Reckless Experimenter is live, you will be able to disenchant it for its full Arcane Dust value for two weeks.
They should put that kind of text on *all* minions that grant permanently some cost reductions, especially mech warper.
I agree, that would also have fixed prep and even shadow step/pick by itself to some extent!
I am glad they made this change, but I do think that changing SN1P-SN4P would have been better.
As far as the combo goes, nerfing experimentation was probably best. in the combo, it was just as bad as SN1P-SN4P. Plus, experimenter was already a bad card except for in Mecha'thun priest, so this change will not effect the card much as it is still viable in that deck, and it is still bad everywhere else like it was before.
But I think that the real problem was putting Echo, and Magnetic on the same card. those two keywords should never have to exist on the same card because it opens up the possibility for combos like this in the future. SN1P-SN4P is a dangerous card to have around.
Blizzard: "We kind of just forgot that Reckless Experimenter was a card..."
Professionalism at it's finest.
"WE" became aware.
Suuuuuuuuure.
"WE".
Aren't we all "WE"? xD
Shouldn't it be at THE end? I'm not a native English speaker myself, could use some clarification on this matter.
Yes, THE should be in the sentence.
Good question and your English is better then some Americans.
Well, if you take "end of turn" as the name of a "phase" of your turn, then it's not necesary; kinda like "Start of Game" (Baku/Greymane) rather than "At the start of the game". Could also be due to readibility (It's a really long card text for HS) or, well, a typo. That too.
You are correct, and the original wording says "at the end of the turn". I imagine they had to remove "the" to keep the text to 4 lines.
Thank you guys for the replies. The sentence "your English is better then some Americans" was a nice bait as well!
Ah this is true, scratch my comment on the mechathun nerf.
Someone who admits they are wrong (we all are sometimes). Good man.
Your comment made my day - thanks :)
Glad to hear that mate :)
Glad they did this - both destroys mechathun and what this new TTK would have become. May insane combo decks (+20 damage) never return.
Um, no it doesn't. The nerf only makes it so you can't go infinite with 0 Mana Deathrattles (the new legendary costs 3). The Priest Mecha'thun combo (Reckless Experimenter/ Coffin Crasher/double Ticking Abomination) is still possible. It only makes it so you can't summon Deathrattles that cost 3 or less for free.
Poor Experimenter, she saw almost no play before, and now she'll see absolutely no play not because she is too strong, but because SN1P-SN4P is. RIP Experimenter.
In wild there is also corpse widow + mech warper tho
