Reckless Experimenter Nerf Coming June 3
Reckless Experimenter will be receiving a change in the upcoming card buff patch on June 3rd. Blizzard did not originally realize that SN1P-SN4P had a negative interaction with the card. See the card and text change below.
Added Text: "Cost can't be reduced below 1"
The card will be disenchantable for full value starting June 3, after the patch releases. Bravo for the quick fix, Blizzard!
Quote from Chris SierraHey Folks,
After the announcement of the Rise of the Mech update, we became aware of an interaction between SN1P-SN4P and Reckless Experimenter that allows for an early-game infinite damage combo in Priest. As a result of this, we’ve opted to make a change to Reckless Experimenter to go along with the 14.4 patch (scheduled to release June 3) so this combo is no longer possible. We’re also aware of some interactions that SN1P-SN4P creates in Wild when played alongside multiple copies of Mechwarper. We’ll be keeping a close eye on how that plays out over the following weeks. Here is how the card now reads (updated card asset here):
Reckless Experimenter – Deathrattle minions you play cost (3) less, but die at end of turn. (Cost can’t be reduced below 1.)
Once the change to Reckless Experimenter is live, you will be able to disenchant it for its full Arcane Dust value for two weeks.
From a technical standpoint it wouldn't because deathrattle and battlecry are different effects, battlecry is instant whereas deathrattle requires the minion to be destroyed, instead of silence or transformation. And also is 3x3 mana would get you 1,2 or 3 snip snaps(depending on how you would play the snip snaps) plus 3 1/1's.
Anyway in Wild combo should be viable with discounting mech
Yeah but you need a 4 card combo with it.
Regardless the card's design may also lead to Mechwarper getting nerfed in wild. The reddit post even referenced it, despite Mechwarper not being a problematic card in wild whatsoever.
If you have to nerf multiple cards in older sets just to release one new card chances are very high that your new card is a badly designed one.
Every class gets 2 cards from Boomsday buffed.
Except priest, it get 3 cards from Boomsday changed, but one is nerfed...
Does it really matter that experimenter is from boomsday. A nerf was needed so a turn 5 otk didn’t break the game. Just be happy that priest got the best buff out of all the buffs, the arms buff.
Of course it doesn't... I was just making a bit of a joke...
I analyzed your comment for about 3 minutes trying to figure out why it has 4 dislikes and I came up with nothin. It is literally an observation of what happened... I feel like the blizzard balance team staring at reckless experimenter when they were designing SN1P-SN4P.
they did not realize? if memory serves me right, just a couple of hours after the announcement of new card ppl here figured the combo out.
so a dev team doesnt figure it out? are u serious? wow
Doesn't make any sense does it? It's almost like they don't know what they're doing, but that can't be right because...yeah I have no idea either.
As the game progresses, and developers come and go, they are going to have too many cards to keep track of and will make mistakes like this.
I'm just thankful they were able to get the community to catch it before the patch was finished and it will no go live super broken.
I agree that it's good they patched it before it went live. But I don't agree that Blizz should be absolved on the grounds of developer turnover; a rudimentary level of playtesting ought to have revealed this interaction, and I think it betrays a worrying lack of imagination and engagement that they weren't able to foresee it, particularly as Reckless Experimenter is still part of the standard rotation.
Yep no need to employ QA testers when you have the community. Kappa
As someone who works for an IT company making billing systems for ISP companies, I can assure you, oversights happen, even in highly experienced teams with a high level QA department.
I’m hereby not stating anything specifically about hearthstone development or QA teams, just that the argument that they should be infallible is rather naive.
It is absolutely, 100% common practice in software development to have more levels of testing, both internally and customer test/verification. Reacting on the customer test feedback (in this case community input to a design idea) signals only positive things to me.
Bruh... They have 1000+ card to take note off than doesn't even include the cards from the future sets. They have said it before there were at least 400+ cards designed and prototyped before choosing the ones for released. So, if you use your brain for a moment and ponder about that.... Then ya, they can miss this interaction. What's your response to that then?
my response is fairly easy. how to test if theres a broken combo:
step 1- check if theres a way to cheat this out. how do we do that? follow next step
step 2- either type the word "cost" when looking for cards in ur collection or look for deathrattle interactions since this card has deathrattle.
step 3- make an inventory of all those cards in standard: spoiler alert there aint much of them specially since in last exp WHOLE 3 SETS rotated out.
step 4- u realize theres a card with both "Cost" and "Deathrattle" in it that involves reduction by 3 and WAIT this card costs 3 AND has echo?
Step 5- u realize such combo can be pulled off by turn 5.
Trust me u can do all of this in 5 minutes. Whats ur response then?
There's ample precedent in other card games of the kind of cards to track. Cards which reduce costs and cards which draw or generate cards, for example, should be auto-includes for watch lists. The way Blizzard has talked for years suggested it understood this, but apparently not. And none that addresses the sleaziness of nerfing an existing card instead of changing an already powerful unreleased card.
I'm sure an extremely cheap 2 mana mech with magnetize is not design limiting by its own right at all.
Better make sure start nerfing old cards to accommodate the new mech and hope that the mech itself doesn't get nerfed in the future anyway (thus making the old card nerfs pointless).
not in wild
Why are they nerfing reckless experimenter instead of moving snip snap to 4 mana? the experimenter + vodoo doll/loot hoarder was actually a fun combo that now is slowed down by a turn for no reason.
