Reckless Experimenter Nerf Coming June 3
Reckless Experimenter will be receiving a change in the upcoming card buff patch on June 3rd. Blizzard did not originally realize that SN1P-SN4P had a negative interaction with the card. See the card and text change below.
Added Text: "Cost can't be reduced below 1"
The card will be disenchantable for full value starting June 3, after the patch releases. Bravo for the quick fix, Blizzard!
Quote from Chris SierraHey Folks,
After the announcement of the Rise of the Mech update, we became aware of an interaction between SN1P-SN4P and Reckless Experimenter that allows for an early-game infinite damage combo in Priest. As a result of this, we’ve opted to make a change to Reckless Experimenter to go along with the 14.4 patch (scheduled to release June 3) so this combo is no longer possible. We’re also aware of some interactions that SN1P-SN4P creates in Wild when played alongside multiple copies of Mechwarper. We’ll be keeping a close eye on how that plays out over the following weeks. Here is how the card now reads (updated card asset here):
Reckless Experimenter – Deathrattle minions you play cost (3) less, but die at end of turn. (Cost can’t be reduced below 1.)
Once the change to Reckless Experimenter is live, you will be able to disenchant it for its full Arcane Dust value for two weeks.
Why cant they just add the text ”Snip Snap cant be reduced below 0” to Reckless Experimenter card?
devs are just terrible, so is their game
Did you seriously make an account just to complain about the game?
Should be renamed "Cautious" Experimenter -__-
Boy the designer of this card must have some paper thin skin if the whole design team agreed to ruin a fun fringe card from an old set that's caused 0 issues instead of just changing their unreleased and clearly problematic new card.
Pre-emptive F for mechwarper as well since that's blatantly getting nerfed to keep somebody's precious child "balanced".
Kinda sucks, Reckless decks were pretty fun.
Oh noes! Not.... the dreaded DOWNVOTES! Errmehgehrd!!!! That must mean you're right and I'm wrong! Erhhhh nerhhhh!
XD Bwaahahahahahaha!
What a troll! LMAO! You're right, kid. Joke's on me, hey?
Lol, "downvotes"... oh man, that's made my day! Haha!
The fact they didnt think of this before releasing it shows the state of where things are for the game.
Two things:
1) They seriously didn't for see the interaction?! Cards like Reckless Experimenter should be put on a list the moment they're printed and checked against every time a card with relevant keywords is created. This is basic design stuff that I assumed they were already doing since they always claim to be mindful of "design space."
2) This practice of nerfing old cards to make room for new cards is very, very crooked. The interaction was known before SN1P-SN4P's pending release. It should be the one changed, not Reckless Experimenter.
Not to mention how devastating it will be in wild. Every class had the potential for turn 7 (6 with the coin) infinite stats or an OTK if they have a single mech on board by playing mechwarper, faceless, mechwarper into infinite Snip-Snaps.
Cards like this in the past (i.e. limited time gimmes) have been gimmick-y fun, idk why they feel like this one needs to be powerful enough to break multiple pre-existing cards.
like barnes ysharj? Really? barnes ysharj is a high roll and the deck has way more win cond then a snipsnap priest.
well witchwood piper doesnt find herself in the deck. Specific draw is not op in otk or any decks. The problem is that im a big fan of priest, but i dont want op priest decks, just want some viable. Any deck archetype above 60% winrate is considerably overpowered in that term, but that priest otk combo theory was just erased in the blueprint cause feedback. Thats my only problem. And it is more problem in this community that someone(not you dont get angry) likes/dislikes classes archetypes and shout out that something he/she doesnt like is just op as hell.
We have a lot of negative mood threads blizzard bad qq ben brode back qq nope! I think the problem is thats a great card game and for me that was the first disappointment, that a forum qq-ing just bombed a possible combo. and we have still spell hunters, neverending warlock aggroes, lazy ultimate boring controll warriors (not problems for me just examples) and people is just climbing tryharding and get used to it, no matter. But priest otk oh no hell thats too much for us!
+1 to Sparkyflame btw
You still got witchwood piper if your looking for a specific draw ,and its not even that big of a restriction since priest now has barly any minions to play at turn 1-2 but he does have a number of spells and auctioneer. If you still can't see the problem ,the deck would be similar to chef naomi just stronger cause of OTK,and frustrating like barnes Ysharj.
Wow-- just saw this but surprised the discussion ended 18 hours ago. I'm good with the nerf. It makes the most sense to me.
Really that's not the point. Reckless Experimenter was never a problematic card. Why should a card that has never caused problems be nerfed so that another flashy new card with a bunch of keywords vomitted on it can be released? It would've been easier to 'nerf' a card that hadn't even been released or given to a single player yet.
They even talked about nerfing another card (Mechwarper) if it turns out that people can consistently abuse SN1P SN4P. That would be a second nerfed card just to release a mech legendary that will probably cause balance problems down the road anyway (and would cause a nerf that would kill my favorite deck in HS Spectral Pillager Rogue). I could care less about getting a pittance of 'free' dust. Decks that other players enjoy, and that are not even tier decks I might add, shouldn't have to be sacrificed so that we can get another card with too many keywords on it (Remember UI anyone?)
It being said, they try to nerf cards that limit future card design. Mechwarper tbh always was a problem and the only reason they didn't nerf it yet is they dont care about wild. Technically Reckless Experimenter limits only snip-snap right now, but what if they will want to add more cards like this? Much more logical to nerf card that cause problems then cards affected by it.
It's like nerfing all late minions because of barnes and resurrect mechanic. Or nerfing patron and frothing berserker instead of warsong commander. Imagine warsong to be unnerfed right now.
a card with echo and magnetic is pretty limiting to future card design
I get what you mean. Yes, echo + magnetic in one card is dangerous combination. But it may be abused only with permanent cost reduction like Mechwarper and Experimenter. Especially with ones that can reduce in to 0. Even for 1-mana adding +2damage to your minion is pretty meh considering you need to set it up.
So it limits only other permanent cost reducers who reduce cost to 0. Which is fine if you ask me. Im ok if they nerf Wrapper as well to never rich 0 cost. Also you can abuse it now with Glinda, wrapper and any magnetic mech
but it's not adding +2 damage for 1 Mana.
It's adding +2 damage, +3 hp and deathrattle: Summon 2x 1/1 Microbots for 1 Mana.
That's 7 stats for 1 mana.
Yeah, that will die in the end of the turn. Microbots are pretty insignificant at the stage where you can set it up. If you looking at Wrapper, well, wrappers was mostly aggro minions. I played it pretty long time ago, so I can imagine control warriors might play it or discover, but well, its wild, Naga Giants existed there for years, Barnes still exist. So I can hardly imagine combo that would be broken in wild anyway.
If you talking about future cards, it might. But again, it will require some set up and creating big minion most likely wont worth it. At least wont be broken. Unless of course they print some 1-mana 1/3 with "Your echo/mech/dr cards cost (2) less". But well, Blizzard can break the game if they want with sn1p or without
Also in a year Sn1p will rotate (if I understood it right and it counts as boomsday card, however now I can't find why I think so). I guess a year without permanent specific discounters like Wrapper or Experimenter we will be fine. After that, well, they dont really cares. If it will be needed, they will nerf it. But I doubt it will be necessary
Also its generally more healthy to the game. I wont be surprised if the same fate will befall Apprentice and Radiant elemental (limit to 1 mana). Both of them caused some broken combo exactly because they didn't have limit to 1 mana. There few other permanent discounters I believe, hunter had some 4-mana drop and there have to be something else. I cant really see problem in that limit.
I like how they made that new Murloc legendary. Its always 1-mana. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. No hidden tricks or broken combo. Its neat
